QUOTE(ad2000 @ Nov 15 2024, 02:43 PM) the restart issue..well my personal view is I think not all UM issued ZTE router has the same restart problem. Two of my neighbours using the ZTE router from UM both more than 11 months now and so far based on their feedback I can confirm they have not suffered any restart problems..only thing is once in a while router will switch to 4G for 30-45 mins before switching back to 5G feedback from this forum and facebook modem groups meaning the bundle "free" modem have some issue. some have to buy another 5G modem and happy problem solve UM + free modem RM79 yes + free modem RM99 celcomdigi + free modem RM149 - Rebate* so what the catch

I still face the disconnection but it is getting less and less frequent. Don't know why. I strongly suspect it is not restarted, it is just a critical driver crashed. Because the system log is intact. If restarted, system log is cleared.
I have turn off the wifi and also the led display.
If still happens, I will try schedule daily reboot in the early morning. Maybe 4am.
Not buying new router. Wait till it becomes cheaper. LOL.

Look at this sample log, happens around 10.56 pm 16th November, it says port 3 is plugged out, and time server has crashed, so system time becomes Jan 1, bla bla, and then finally it recovered, mc auto connect, onConnectSuccess, time synchronized with time server. I did suspect this is one of the reason why it suffer but since the 5G on my phone didnt drop, I wonder why it drop to 4G on the router instead. This is what prompted me to switch to 5G NSA only since it would even connect to 4G when the light is white. Even now with the double fan whammy, the router didnt restart but the internet will slow down between 10-30Mbps once everyday if we abuse it. I had to manually reset the router to get the speed back to normal. Anyway, I would receive the X50 5G next week and try again.

Hence a brief power loss does not reset the log. I still believe the cause of crash is not drivers related but temperature related. The lackluster cooling is the main cause especially when you turn on the WIFI which was rated at AX5400.

You are right about log is stored in non volatile ram. Tested it. The 4 lines out of time log becomes evidence of the router rebooted, since the router does not have battery to store time, a reboot requires time to be synced again from time server.

Hence I decided to get the UM router since I have decided to save the money by going 5g than unifi. If router sucks, I just buy one. Either way I'm all into 5g... I'm not going back to fiber unless 300mbps below 100. Still its best to trial before committing. I grab my celcom5g from office and trial over the weekend. It was great hence it gave me confidence to go all in since 5g towers are shared. This post has been edited by andrekua2: Nov 17 2024, 11:23 AM

QUOTE(JLA @ Nov 17 2024, 12:05 PM) celcom modem using snapdragon x um modem using UNISOC Makalu IVY510 no trial one sub tie with 24 month commitment Celcom is not worth it but it was one of the earliest one available. You feel UM is not worth but it only cost RM68. In comparison, Celcom cost RM149. Why do I choose Celcom is because of doubt. I use XOX and Yoodo which gave good 4G speed (before the merger with Digi). Just in case 5G suck, I still can rely on Celcom 4G. The other choice was YES but YES said they are limiting the speed to 120Mbps back which affected my decision. Not only that, if 5G suck, YES 4G is terrible since I trial their sim on my phone for 2 months. You can get a good 5G router between RM600-800. It is still much cheaper than Celcom offering (could be a different math now if you are a celcom postpaid subscriber but not me). Im very much still waiting for April 2025 to come faster so that I can terminate the Celcom 5G and move over to UM.

I'm really liking 5G. It's as fast as a 300mbps fiber plan, but it costs less. I'm not switching back to fiber anytime soon.
The MC888S modem isn't very good.

Actually it is much better than fiber in the sense that there is very little throttling. Back when I was on fiber with Maxis and then Unifi, live stream on youtube is a struggle. I always watch live telecast of League of Legends matches from Korea and they would seem to lag on the weekend. Imagine 300Mbps unifi struggling to even stream 1080P which only require nothing more than 4Mbps. Not only that, certain sites especially Chinese servers are being throttled so badly. Taobao is a struggle. No such problem now.

I have fiber and 5G at home; fiber wins in terms of better latency—>5ms vs. 15ms. Speed-wise, it is as fast as fiber—500Mpbs. However, there are times when some of my Apple apps are slow when I update them, so I switch to fiber, and it works as intended. I guess it can be solved with a VPN. It's not a usual occurrence, so it is okay.

I suspect DNB may be throttling Youtube uploads. On 5G I barely get 10Mbps upload (but speed test upload around 40Mbps). If I switched to 4G, the uploads go as high as 50Mbps.
Thoughts?

DNB Shared telco tower if telco own tower 5g chance to get upload go high 4g why easy upload go high as 50mbos above because TELCO 4G own tower DNB Tower = 5 telcos share that getting capped
