Just registered u home 5g today and received ZTE MC888S. We noticed the modem will auto-restart out of the blue for many times, so frastrated... Until we saw someone in the forum suggested to change the power adapter, so we switched to a brick 12v (3.33A) adapter from old display monitor. Now the modem no longer auto-restart, both WiFi and 5G is on, selected to 5G NSA. We also noticed the angle of the modem also affect the signal strength, so we tilt the modem to face toward the cell tower (~500m away), signel increased about -5dbm, but speedtest improvement was not significant tbh... Hope the speed will remain like this for long long time.

well.. changed to power adapter brick doesn't solve problem, still random reboot when everyone is back home using internet.
I switched off wifi and connect to an AP instead... see how...
(update: still random reboot tho...) T.T will try to put fan and see..

I'm really liking 5G. It's as fast as a 300mbps fiber plan, but it costs less. I'm not switching back to fiber anytime soon.
The MC888S modem isn't very good.

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Nov 23 2024, 09:47 AM) how often? less frequent than before or more or less the same? About the same... especially when everyone is home surfing internet at night, random reboot was even frequently, about once every 1-2 hour... The only benefit on this new firmware is giving us manual DNS, we can now surf any sites without restriction...

Updated new firmware today, the router no longer restart like it used to be, just random-DC (few times a day) from cell tower, but quickly reconnected back within a minute, while WiFi still connected to all devices. Speed remains the same. New firmware has a weird naming using **.O.0B07. So far ok now. I noticed that: - Disable 160Mhz will make Wifi 5Ghz turn on faster. - Channel 6 on 2.4Ghz and channel 36 on 5Ghz seems to have stronger signal (based on WifiInfoView, no other router surrounding).

QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Dec 6 2024, 03:19 PM) why not use separate wifi router for wireless? minimalist approach...

Has anyone updated MC888S to B09 firmware? I can't because it said no new version. I think the update system doesn't recognize "CR_UMMYMC888SV1.O.0B07 (capital "O")" firmware. This post has been edited by yapmeo: Jan 27 2025, 09:16 PM

I think H153-381 is not using Balong 5000, but lower-end chip MT5700G-CN by TD Tech.
