That's why i don't want kaon anymore. I want ZTE back. If you are lucky, you get the good one without problem.

Can share where you pry to get the case off ZTE? Is it the top panel of the side which had the led?

I noticed that the stock router ran quite hot even without wifi turned on when I returned home after work. Probably part of the reason why it restarted for the past few days. Im now having it stand vertically on a 120mm case cum router fan and blew air from the side that are all mesh to the sim card side. Definitely can feel the warm air channellin through, a bit like laptop. Lets see if it will improve the stability.

I have to agree with him. Glad that Unifi despite their track record providing crap routers for fibre users, they indeed gave one of the best 5G modem in the market, MC8020; for their Air 5G users. No problem at all. Only in few cases line drops to 4G mode. Just need to reboot manually via mobile app.

Underneath the sticker there are 2 screws locking the casing. The rest of the housing being held by series of clips.

Didnt change a damn thing... I was using Unifi Air back then and it went from a smooth 20mbps down to a low 2-4mbps... I was going to give them chance again with Unifi 5G but they delay the thing for so damn long. In the end, Celcom was the first to launch it at RM149 and I quickly grabbed it. At first Im more interested with YES since they advertised lower price but their non unlimited quota had me worried since it will be shared among 10 people with several pc and smartphones.

i guess it has nothing to do with the modem. it was the most sough-after modem. Good for modification. I had few units before. Now sold off all. I used unifi Air before. Until they put a limit of 20mbps and it get worse below 10mbps during peak hour.

Guys,

how about we all complain to MCMC and force U Mobile to change their current modem to a different model.

Just saw their website. 5G Home no longer offer ZTE modem. Only Kaon.

Instead I think hardware manufacturer should forget about aesthetic and include a studier heatsink or fan to cool their damn modem. They are doing test in so called controlled environment and wont be replicating people actually love to put their router in a corner, unventilated space.

I hate when they love to create a compact and sexy looking device but in the end sacrifice cooling which makes the experience sucks for users.

I would. Friend of mine knows how to flash. The only missing is the firmware.

I saw the website provides the firmware. Let me ask my friend if this one compatible.

upon close inspection, umobile and tenda though similar but has different hardware. tenda one has better hardware compared to umobile. tenda also has usb port and externa antenna port. also faster wifi. using same modem chip.

he tried flash the firmware from tenda. went through but it did not replace umobile firmware. sigh..

Just thought I'd share...

Recently purchased a Zyxel NR5103Ev2. So here's the result vs a loaned Deco 5G from my office.

It's light... as in like light light of the ZTE MC888s that U gave me on the contract. Which makes the Deco feel like a ton of bricks.
Do i light prefer it lighter or heavier, can't say. tongue.gif

It runs cooler too. Aesthetics out of the way, it performs almost similar bandwidth results on Fast.com (they were placed next to each other). Circa 500Mbps... when the tests were run this AM around 0900H.

So, what can I do with it? You can:
Lock the bands
Split the Wifi signals (2.4 and 5Ghz split and not merged)
Control the strength of the Wifi signal (singular here as the changing the strength affects both Wifi split, not as individual strengths)

So far, I haven't been able to:
Schedule a reboot
Data Usage is noted in bytes and require a few clicks to get there...
And the App can't detect the Wifi that my phone is using in order to configure itself. But that's ok, I prefer the web portal (everything can be controlled through here).

Will update to let you'll know how long this is working without any reboots.

So I was browsing CeX Malaysia's website and noticed this router

https://my.webuy.com/product-detail?id=smobees5gunl
EE Smart 5G Indoor Wifi Router, Unlocked

From what I can find it is a rebranded Askey Smart 5G Hub HH20C
(Askey is related to Asus)

from what I can find scattered on forums, Carousell HK and aliexpress

it seems like it is a wifi6 (and possibly 6e?) 5g router, with 2x gigabit ethernet ports, no external antenna ports, has a fan inside, powered by 20V 65W USB-C
no idea on what soc is inside though
only concern I have is that it doesn't seem to support 4G Band28?
Is that mandatory for usage here? since for 5G bands it does support 28 and 78

otherwise it seems like it's a good deal for RM450

It is mandatory. (for now)
Without support from 4G b28, you can't connect to our 5G network.
