Finally got my replacement after threatened them with MCMC. No Kaon, still the same MC888S.

First thing to do, get an old Umo sim and access the modem. Upon inspecting the firmware, it's the same. Still, i disable the auto update.

Then, swap the sim card with the active one. Try to overload the modem with heavy download from multiple devices. So far no dc. Touchwood...will keep monitoring.

i think Kaon option is not not widely available yet, probably waiting for reviews first on the Kaon before submitting another report.

surprisingly no DC last 24 hours - speed about 260D/60U this morning.

dunno, i asked the courier if i need to give him anything - he said no. anyway, will keep it aside just in case he wants to come and collect.

i just replace the modem. use back the same power adapter, lazy to open the new one.

ok la. so far no dc after so many heavy downloads. speed also reasonable for early evening. hope this solves the problem and the previous modem was just one of the bad apples.

download latency is acceptable. upload has bufferbloat, might need to set sqm to reduce bufferbloat for uploading.

Dc and reconnect at least no taking much time than device reboot.

I would think so, since the package allows you to use quite unlimited data, except no torrent.

Reporting back...
Using phone can reach 300mbps
With the ZTE modem... 100mbps also quite hard... Avg is 40 50 across the day.
I would say if you need the speed, spend the money and get a decent modem...
But since I'm on contract already, might as well continue. I don't need the high speed data, but it's always better to have the speed.

Placement of modem and direction of internal antenna to tower can make a big difference.

Maybe you should reject the MC888S by returning it again and ask for a Kaon replacement instead?

Have this kind of problem in the beginning as well. What I did was:

1) split the WiFi to 2.4ghz n 5ghz
2) Modem placement near window

nice. more than 24 hours no dc, no reboot. i believe this is due to hardware defect rather than firmware.

Should have waited until new stock arrives. It's actually supposed to be better with a Mediatek chipset inside.

You know what, I just remember I splitted it into two bands, and I forgot to connect to the 5GHz one! bangwall.gif
It's late now, so result may be better, but I can get >300mbps!
And it's now directly at the window already.
I'll report back in some time later, monitor how's the speed fluctuation.

hi sifus, could anyone advised what went wrong.

i am currently living in a 2 storey terrace house. Just bought TP Link X50 - 5G (U Home 5G plan). TP Link X50 is placed in my room 2nd floor, averaging speeds are around 650mpbs to 800mpbs ++.

however, 1st floor speeds are averaging between 20 to 30mpbs only. Likewise, i am using 4 mesh in total: 1 TP Link X50 - 5G and 3 Deco E4 mesh(1 situated in 2nd floor living hall and the other 2 mesh situated at 1st floor) could any sifus advise any solutions....so much difference in speeds across both floors tqtq
