Abit underwhelming. X5 is downgrade camera and charging speed from last year x4 pro 5g, everything else is literally the same. If its priced the same, might aswell get the x4 pro 5g. The x5 pro is using the old 778g from like 3 years ago. Wheres 6 gen 1 or 7 gen 1, been waiting forever for these 2 chipset.

6g1 and 7g1 are from samsung fab. i believe poor yield delays these or limit production of these chips

7g1 will be on xiaomi 13 lite (rebadge civi2)

6g1 qualcomm already said to be commercially available on q1 this year but will not have much design wins

there will be an enhanced version based on tsmc fab 7+ g1 aka sm7475 coming soon by q2 this year and might debut on upcoming redmi note/poco x model

Ya the 7+ gen 1 seems interesting since its from tsmc fab. My beef is that in these 2-3 years since covid, Qualcomm seems to has stagnant more than mediatek. Like every other midranger will have either 695 or 778g. Thats it, only revolved around those 2. Meanwhile for midrange mediatek got dimensity 700, 810, 900, 920 etc. Hell even some of their more powerful lineup like dimensity 1080, 1000, 1200, 8100 already trickled to proper affordable midrange phones. I'm not interested in buying phones with kidney expensive chipset but if going with Qualcomm midrange, got that 2 option 695 and 778g only. If going for 860 then its rebadged ancient 855 only and 870 rebadged 865. Basically not too many choices with qualcomm.

Quite a turn off for me IMO, maybe poco can only promise less update for these model if start with android 13 because these older soc has android 11 vendor/GRF firmware (Google Requirement Freeze ) which can only use until android 14 update

Both screens are from different suppliers. Non-pro uses the same samsung oled from previous redmi note 10/11 series while Pro model uses newer panel from tiamma iirc

Lol the x5 is priced very similar to last year x4 pro 5g with dowgrade camera and charging speed. Its like few years ago where xiaomi spammed the market with sd625.

Poco version of MiUi will update later compares to Redmi options… but same pattern base on previous update records. Provide users with new MiUi version but pairing with older Droid version.

Then that's at least a relief for buyers shelling over RM1500 for the device, but Redmi Note 12 4G as shown by his other video doesn't have NFC

4G version confirm no nfc, because the model number as in sirim database is 23021RAAEG (no nfc) code, and nfc model uses separate code 23021RAA2Y


5g versions (22111317G, 22101316UG) are safe to say will be NFC equipped. (China and Indian models omitted NFC however)

Malaysia pricing for these phones are surely depressing for the specs.

IQOO Z7 has downgraded LPDDR4X and UFS 2.2 compared tos LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 found on Z6 and Z5. Not to mention, no ultra-wide sensor and no OLED. IQOO Z7 going to be tough sell unless it officially sells under RM1000

It's directly competitor is just Poco X5 pro

No ultrawide - not like that rubbish 8mp sensor on other models can be much more useful though. But IMO ultrawide (of at least 12mp) is must have nowadays

No oled - not everyone need oled especially PWM sensitive person, that how IQOO targets at ( although imo currently any ips panel out there are mediocre anyway, including poco X4 GT panel)


Is it a tough sell? Not really because 120w (proprietary protocol, as usual) can be quite attractive for those tired of 33w , 67w or slower wattage protocol

as someone that used/own RN8, RN9, RN10, RN11 and now RN12

for camera imo... I notice RN10 is way way better in term of colour and details coz both the RN11/12 look abit white-ish and the contrast/colour capture is not great.

as for day 2 day usage compare RN10/11... RN10 still better and snappier during daily usages and have better software support running on miui 14 while the RN11 still on miui 13.
no comment yet f or RN12 coz only used for 2 days. Hope this can replace my main phone RN10.

annoyance #1: cannot fully disable auto-sleep (max 10mins before lock display). i read this is Android default setting.
annoyance #2: when charging, there is no notification light after the initial charging animation.
annoyance #3: zero notification light indicator. very very annoying. also got the initial notification, but after that, zero.

Finally, global f5 is a phone that made me itchy wanna upgrade. Perfomance wise my current xiaomi 11t is still fast even after a year and a half but wanna try snapdragon, plus abit more storage than 128gb. My last 3 phones have been using exynos, kirin and mediatek.

F5 Pro (8+ gen 1) = K60 (non pro) in china
Not available globally = K60 Pro (8 gen 2) = china only

dont think its that high, Redmi note 12 turbo pricing in China starts at 1999 RMB which translates to RM 1283~
Pricing for xiaomi phones are usually around same for us and china. I can see it going for RM 1399 or at most RM 1699 for the base model. F5 pro will be the higher priced (RM 2199 and above) one while they can keep the F5 lower.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ already starts at RM1599. Historically the F series is always slightly higher than the Note series. RM1699 already seems dangerously close to the Note 12 Pro+, unless Xiaomi wants to cannibalise their own locally. The Thai Lazada official Poco shop has put placeholder price of 13990 baht for the Poco F5.

So RM1699 is probably the absolute lowest over here? 4 more days to know.

F5 camera probably 1/2" and not as good sensor as RN12PP, not sure about F5 Pro camera.

Also RM1600 for RN12PP is also close to 12T at RM1729 (during sales) which has much faster SoC.

Unfortunately they didn't bring in the RN12P (non plus version) which has better battery and IMX766 sensor (same as A54) for cheaper price than RN12PP. A54 also dropped price (or rather without free gifts) to RM1620..

f5, f5 pro both use the same 64mp 1/2 size sensor

Reason for Pixel ranked low is because ownership of Pixel in Malaysia very troublesome compared to official markets where Pixel is sold in, since no warranty in Malaysia. And F5 Pro is lower than F5 because specs very similar and F5 Pro not worth spending extra money compared to F5.

If you are a Pixel fan, Pixel 6A is a good entry level phone to experience Pixel software magic for their camera, but not good for a daily driver in Malaysia.

My Poco F3 just died after less than 2 years. Most prolly Main Board issue. Very reluctant to buy another Poco (& Redmi too I supposed). The Pixel 6A heating up issue is a great concern though. Pixel 6A also is not snappy enough compared to Poco F3 IMO. I guess Samsung A54 should be a good candidate then?

Should be. But exynos 1380 on a54 is still marginally weaker than 778g

E1380 is better than d1080( d920/d7050) though, only d8100/d8000/d1100/d1200 can beat e1380

For that matter even xiaomi 11t with d1200 is also faster than d1080


Note that mediatek is now rebranding some of their existing model into new model designation to help oem clear stock

This can produce much more confusing for me imo

Welp, that's sad, motherboard issues is common for all Xiaomi phones, whether it be Xiaomi, Poco and Redmi.

My family uses Xiaomi phones (Redmi, Poco, Xiaomi as well), and personally the best experience we had with Xiaomi was their T series. My sister's Mi 10T motherboard also broke after one year, but Xiaomi just upgraded her phone directly to a Xiaomi 11T since the phone was still under the 2 year warranty there was no stock of Mi 10T motherboard.

Another reason I also recommend the T series from Xiaomi, is because Xiaomi Malaysia offers 2 years warranty for all T series smartphones, compared to conventional 1 year warranty for Poco and Redmi phones. Also both Xiaomi 11T and 12T series are promised at least 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.

Xiaomi 11T Pro should be avoided due to heating issues of the Snapdragon 888, and Xiaomi 12T Pro is kinda around RM2200-RM2500 price range, which is too expensive imo.

My recommendation for Xiaomi phones is as follows since your phone died recently.

1. Xiaomi 11T
2. Xiaomi 12T (go for this if you can find it under RM1500),
3. Xiaomi 12T Pro
4. Poco X5 Pro (though this one is only 1 year warranty, and only recommend if your budget is too tight)
