Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,599

Redmi Note 12 5G, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM1,099

Redmi Note 12, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM799

Redmi Note 12, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM699

Specs

Redmi Note 12
Snapdragon 685 4G
5000mAh + 33W
6.67" FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED
50MP+8MP+2MP

Redmi Note 12 5G
Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 5G
5000mAh + 33W
6.67" FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED
48MP+8MP+2MP

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G
MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G
5000mAh + 120W
6.67" FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED
200MP+8MP+2MP

Personal thoughts: Possibly worst pricing of Redmi Note series phone in Malaysia yet, better off paying the same price for the Xiaomi 11T 256GB with better processor, camera, even metal and glass build than the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ at RM1599

Then that's at least a relief for buyers shelling over RM1500 for the device, but Redmi Note 12 4G as shown by his other video doesn't have NFC

Rn12 5g or rn12+Pro2
Which more worth it?
*
For the price ot Rn12 5g, you're better off buying Poco X5 or X5 Pro.
And for the price of Rn12 Pro+, better off buying the Xiaomi 11T,since it is still available in Malaysia

Malaysia pricing for these phones are surely depressing for the specs.

IQOO Z7 has downgraded LPDDR4X and UFS 2.2 compared tos LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 found on Z6 and Z5. Not to mention, no ultra-wide sensor and no OLED. IQOO Z7 going to be tough sell unless it officially sells under RM1000

Poco F5 ad is shockingly innovative (to my immature humour)

Sifus, how does the RN12PP / F5 / F5P compared to Pixel 6A?
*
Pixel 6A
Pros
- Best Camera for under RM3000 (Subjective because Pixel Camera Software is best for many with Pixel Magic Eraser and other Pixel features)
- Smooth Pixel Software
Cons
- Poor battery life, slow charging, Charger not included in box
- 60Hz OLED
- Bad Internet Connectivity, poor support of 5G and WiFi bands in Malaysia
- In Display fingerprint scanner
- Tensor G1 is moderately below average speed and heats up easily
-No Malaysia warranty
- No wireless charging

RN12PP
Pros
-Worse camera than 6A, but better than F5, F5P
-Side physical fingerprint scanner
-120Hz OLED
- Great battery life, 120W fast charger in box
- Great Connectivity support in Malaysia
Cons
- Slow Dimensity 1080, slower than Tensor
- RRP RM1599 is too high priced, this phone, imo RM1099 is better price

Poco F5 and F5 Pro
Pros
-Side Fingerprint scanner
-Fast Performance with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 ane 8+ Gen 1, which means phone still smooth operation after 2 years of use (faster than Tensor and Dimensity 1080)
-Great battery life, fast charging (F5 Pro has 30W wireless charging if you like it)
-Great Connectivity options in Malaysia
- Xiaomi Service Centres available in Malaysia for Warranty
Cons
- Camera is worst of the 4, but still 64MP OIS sensor is acceptable for decent daylight photos

Recommendation
Poco F5 > Poco F5 Pro > Redmi Note 12 PP > Pixel 6A

Reason for Pixel ranked low is because ownership of Pixel in Malaysia very troublesome compared to official markets where Pixel is sold in, since no warranty in Malaysia. And F5 Pro is lower than F5 because specs very similar and F5 Pro not worth spending extra money compared to F5.

If you are a Pixel fan, Pixel 6A is a good entry level phone to experience Pixel software magic for their camera, but not good for a daily driver in Malaysia.

My Poco F3 just died after less than 2 years. Most prolly Main Board issue. Very reluctant to buy another Poco (& Redmi too I supposed). The Pixel 6A heating up issue is a great concern though. Pixel 6A also is not snappy enough compared to Poco F3 IMO. I guess Samsung A54 should be a good candidate then?
*
Welp, that's sad, motherboard issues is common for all Xiaomi phones, whether it be Xiaomi, Poco and Redmi.

My family uses Xiaomi phones (Redmi, Poco, Xiaomi as well), and personally the best experience we had with Xiaomi was their T series. My sister's Mi 10T motherboard also broke after one year, but Xiaomi just upgraded her phone directly to a Xiaomi 11T since the phone was still under the 2 year warranty there was no stock of Mi 10T motherboard.

Another reason I also recommend the T series from Xiaomi, is because Xiaomi Malaysia offers 2 years warranty for all T series smartphones, compared to conventional 1 year warranty for Poco and Redmi phones. Also both Xiaomi 11T and 12T series are promised at least 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.

Xiaomi 11T Pro should be avoided due to heating issues of the Snapdragon 888, and Xiaomi 12T Pro is kinda around RM2200-RM2500 price range, which is too expensive imo.

My recommendation for Xiaomi phones is as follows since your phone died recently.

1. Xiaomi 11T
2. Xiaomi 12T (go for this if you can find it under RM1500),
3. Xiaomi 12T Pro
4. Poco X5 Pro (though this one is only 1 year warranty, and only recommend if your budget is too tight)

Xiaomi 11T 256GB (RM1325 after discount) https://s.lazada.com.my/s.5rqi9

The upcoming Poco F5 could be cheaper than Xiaomi 11T, but a small comparison between F5 I did below for your reference.

Performance: F5 (Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2) better than 11T (Dimensity 1200)
Storage: Both are 256GB
Camera: F5 has inferior sensor with OIS, 11T has better sensor without OIS
Screen: Both are 120Hz FHD+ OLED
Build quality: 11T has Aluminium frame+Glass back > F5 is plastic frame+plastic back
Battery: Same 5000mAh with 67W charger included in box
Warranty: 11T (2 Year) > F5 (1 Year)
Price: F5 early bird pricing expected to be RM1499 for 8GB+256GB version, meanwhile Xiaomi 11T 8GB+256GB current lowest price that can be found is RM1325 for new set

Anyways, F5 pre-orders could take until next month June for shipping, if you need a phone right now, then buy the best phone that is ready stock

This is good summary. I'm looking for a replacement phone for my mum and looking at models of Xiaomi, Poco and Redmi gave me a headache. they look the same only for a normal user like me.

Just a question about 11T - I remember 3-4 years back shop seller tell me dont buy Mediatek chip phones cause it heat up and will slow down long term. Is that true? that's why I always end up with snapdragon redmi for my mum and dad.
*
MediaTek used to have heat up issues with their inferior Helio 4G Chipsets, but their new 5G Dimensity Chipsets (1200, 1300, 8100, 9000) are now more power efficient, and heat up less easily. The fact their new Dimensity chips are on same TSMC manufacturer process as Apple iPhone Bionic processor is also a bonus for trustworthiness.

At the time of launch of Xiaomi 11T, MediaTek reputation and history was the "hot chipset", but 2021 until 2023 shown that new MediaTek chips (specifically Dimensity) are even cooler and more power efficient than Snapdragon (specifically the Snapdragon chips on Samsung nodes)

In fact the Snapdragon 888 (Samsung 5nm) on Mi 11T Pro more hotter than the Dimensity 1200 (TSMC 6nm) on Mi 11T, because Samsung nodes are prone to heating than TSMC, see Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (Samsung 4nm) is much worse 8+ Gen 1 (TSMC 4nm).

I used Redmi K20 / Mi 9T immediately before the Poco F3. The 9T also died on me with possible charging port issue. Hence the hesitance of buying yet another Redmi, Poco, Xiaomi. I used to love my Redmi Note 3 though. I humbly thank you for your extensive replies.
*
Ahh Mi 9T had only 1 year warranty right, they only introduced the 2 year warranty from Mi 10T onwards in Malaysia, and the 3 Android update policy from Mi 11T onwards.

Very sorry to hear that Xiaomi phones died on you quite frequently. 😅

Just curious, what is your budget since your phone died suddenly? Maybe can look at other brands.

Poco F5 Pro: https://www.mi.com/ae/product/poco-f5-pro/specs

Damn standard Poco F5 only comes in 256GB storage options, China market gets 512GB and 1TB storage. 👀 Hopefully it is priced right in Malaysia.

Poco F3
One day, i play genshin impact while charging, then suddenly it auto restart (Could it be sudden overheat issue causing something inside broken?).
The port now cannot connect to PC, vibration become weird, game will freeze and auto restart while charging+playing.
I try to repair outside, the technician do some testing change the port but still same problem.
They said want charge me RM300+ if want check full phone + fix, they said it might be flash IC problem.
*
Try to ask official Xiaomi service centre first, their repair service is fast and immediate for the outlet in Seremban, done within 2 hours. Compared to Klang Valley service centre where need to wait 2 days.

I got my Poco F3 battery replaced for cheaper at official Xiaomi service centre than 3rd Party technician

Does any of this models have same function like Samsung DeX?
1) Need to connect to TV via HDMI and use it as media player -> see youtube on big TV or play suduko etc.
2) Need to connect it to laptop via USB cable and use it as phone as a chrome book.
*
Nope, stick to Samsung, Huawei has better DeX function than Samsung, but unless you are willing to switch to a phone without Google Play Services, you are better choosing Samsung flagship in Malaysia 😅

Yeah so they already cannibalize RN12PP anyway, maybe some users didn't notice so they buy the latest newest thing or they want OIS + headphone jack.
What kind of voucher you get? isn't it only RM1470 with shop discount?

So 11T also cannibalize Poco X5 Pro at RM1400 hmm.gif now we have F5 lagi, wonder about F5 Pro price now haha. Unfortunately both cameras is the same sensor/size as the older Poco F4.
*
You need to get free Lazada Bonus on Lazada mobile app to get RM1325 price (price until May 9th). If desktop Lazada, the Xiaomi 11T is RM1470.

Of course, some retailers could also sell it for cheaper, since I was too lazy to properly search for lowest price 😛

F5 Pro really not worth it, considering the main sensor downgraded to same OV64B as F4 and F5. And F5 Pro much heavier than F5 without offering better battery life. They both have same size 6.67" Display but F5 Pro is WQHD+ which is heavier and more bezel, and F5 is FHD+ with really near bezel less design. Not to mention F5 got the headphone jack back, while F5 Pro no headphone jack.

Only situation I think F5 Pro maybe more worth it is if the same storage is only RM50 more expensive than F5.

Oh haven't used Laz for a long time.
F5 Pro has wireless charging, hard to find in this price range unless going for old flagship or refurbished/used, but yeah the same old Omni sensor isn't nice, but I suppose it is a good phone for gaming.
*
Yeah, F5 Pro is for the gamers with its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Poco F5 Pro has two important competitors of its price range in Malaysia, the Xiaomi 12T (Dimensity 8100) with the better camera, and the Nothing Phone 1 (Snapdragon 778G) with the much better camera. The general public who prefers camera could look at those compared to F5 Pro, and not to mention the Xiaomi 12T and Nothing Phone (1), both have 2 year warranty if bought in Malaysia.
