Thank you and yes agreed I’m sure other companies pay more at least in Malaysia.

And yes job reports salaries seem off from what I’ve seen.

About hiring budget - thanks will do this. Hoping that they’re more transparent. It’s 2024 and still salaries are treated like national security. Dunno when Malaysia will adopt the ruling like certain countries where pay range is mandatory information in the job posting.

If new companies still asking for last pay check, it wont change

Should offer based on what the person is asking and compare based on market rate
Guess why they had to resort to this?

Hi all,
Any new industry resources/reports for oil and gas salaries in Malaysia?
*
There was a salary trend published by Infographics. From what i have observed, it is quite legit for permanent employees in O&G consulting firms, EPC contractors and petronas. Not applicable to foreign owned operator companies.

Saw this many career opening in AP portal. Has anyone have any experience to share?
*
heard that some of the O&G professionals who were hired came from Petronas too. their intention is to make KL as the regional engineering hub for their hydrogen business.
had an interview session with AP few weeks ago and was shortlisted for hiring. salary is comparable to major local O&G companies but benefits are so so.

Generally I have reviewed this and on the low side (add 20% shall be OK) comparing to my experience on EPC Contractors..

mind sharing if your experience was with local or foreign EPC contractors?
normally contract hires are offered >20% higher than permanent staffs.
my observation is that salary ceiling is becoming lower since 5 - 10 years ago.

My experience with foreign and local (Onshore). For Local offshore, generally as per above tables...

Salary ceiling went down now seems to be increasing again due to lack of resource..

note that many have gone to work in Middle East ( Qatar, Saudia, Oman, UAE, Iran).

Salary is hard to gauge. If you are a CEO of smaller companies likely gets paid more than senior engineer in MNC.

But there was a report that Petronas average rm10k+ per mth which seems the highest based on that report. Then again, the range is huge.

This I have followed for some time and his advice makes it sound like very easy to join O&G.. Giving lot of false hope on how to join operators.. hmm..

If one has right network, I think it will be easy. If one is trying to apply without any connection, pretty much impossible especially for more than 10yrs exp folks especially the Pet, PTT, SHe and etc.

I spoke to a low level insider in PNB, he claims that the government of Malaysia via Petronas will "save" Sapura. According to him, zero chance of any injection from PNB.

1. Any truth to Petronas being interested to bail out Sapura?
2. How will it work as Petronas is the ultimate parent of MMHE, which is Sapura's only major local competitor on the fabrication side.

The only way this would works is consolidating MMHE and Sapura, Sapura has offshore T&I capability which would complement MMHE well.

I have doubts on the PET bailing sapura. Since the PET themselves currently have been told to cut budget left and right by a certain individual in our country.
