Except for higher ground clearance and vantage point, I don’t really see the advantage of SUV over sedan.

Having said that, I am also considering SUV because of the vantage point laugh.gif Probably crossover like CX30 would give the balance of both world.

for higher vantage point.

better just go Hilux, or any pickup truck.

depends on your budget
in the end will always come to performance vs practicality

practicality=SUV
performance=Sedan

Thanks for pointing out these things. Seems like if main concern is baby, the SUV should be the choice.
Yes, for sedan, this or Civic FE are in the shorlist.
*
When shopping for a car. Bring your child seat along. Have it fitted and see how easy you can get your kid in and strap them in. Bring stroller and what ever baby crap you have and see how you can load them in.

BTW when your wife is 8 months pregnant, she will appreciate a seat that matches her hip point, so it is easy to just slide the legs in and out and get in/out. A sedan will have a seat lower than the hip height so you have to sit DOWN and get UP. Just get something reasonable and not an SUV that is too tall.

Btw the civic has a fairly low roofline. Do the child seat test first.

Take it from experiences of a parent to another parent. Unlike /k forever alone. My wife jokes I bought a car for the kids instead of for her. She got her own car now that the kids are older and can strap themselves in. My youngest is 9 and is still on a booster seat. The eldest is 12 and don't need one now.

For family, SUV of course. Many reason already given by others.

Sedan like Civic is too low. Go in and out also susah. Choose Accord or Camry if want family sedan.

Thanks but still undecided, but tomorrow will test drive a few car. what do you think about new civic fe compare to city?
agree, just wondering why so many people decide to buy SUV nowadays. Guess I should test drive 1.
Agree except the boot space sedan should win compare to SUV. I think 1 of SUV disadvantage is small boot space.
I never drive SUV, interested to know the visibility advantage it has over sedan. maybe need to test drive. other than that, i think i prefer sedan more.
enough. downgrading from current car.

A point to note if TS might entertain the idea of a compact 7 seater. If you have mounted 2 child seats in the middle seat, How to go into the 3rd row?

Not until they are older and can seat themselves into the 3rd row. I wouldn't squeeze adults in the 3rd row in most compact MPVs and SUVs....unless you really hate your in-laws

A compact 7 seater has almost 0 cargo room with all seats up. When u have kids, you have lots of crap to bring with you

Yup true.

Putting in child seats either end of the middle row where usually the ISOFIX or three point seatbelts are seals of access to the last row. Putting chlid seat in the last row might be too cramped also.

Have to figure out the seating combination of your kids with the adults carefully before deciding to take the plunge on an SUV

SUV/MPV driving experience cannot match sedan.

Sedan will easily have better handling, control, etc due to lower center of gravity.

As for me, i choose MPV bcos of its practicality. Need 1 car that can carry large items, higher ground clearance, yet still comfortable for family to ride along.

See what you want in your car, then decide.

Hi,

I plan to buy car, family consist of me + wife + 8m/o son + unborn child. Car will use for daily drive,(fetch 2 kids to babysitter), and use as family car long distance travel(maybe once a month). Office and babysitter distance is only like 20minutes from my house. Do you guys think SUV or Sedan better for us?
*
Just like your purpose, I just bought a nissan serena hws for family wife + 4 year old + 1.5 year old and sometimes + sis in law + 4 year old kid. Use it monthly at least once balik kampung (over 150km), fetch my parents go jalan jalan, dinning

I do use it as daily drive as well for fetching kids to nanny, school then work

Driving experience : of course you cant expect it will be good as Sedan/SUV

Fuel consumption : It is heavy so dun give hope on FC, I can only achieve 320-420km for 100 MYR RON 95 full tank, but on highway it can do more than 500km

Practical: Full star, highly flexible for the seat configuration and space. The walkway is really convenient for the kid's mother access from the passenger seat, straight to 2nd and 3rd row when the kids make noise or need something. The tray table also make milk making job easier.

Why I not go for other MPV new Avanza/BRV with lots new features:
- Don't know when it ll launch
- price hike for new car, the price gap to nissan serena (Not latest facelift) after all discount might be diff by 10-20k
- 3rd row space quite cramp

Why not Innova
- 3rd row space quite cramp

Why not X90
- Don't know when it ll launch

Why not CX-8
wub.gif it is my wish list but no budget yet, perhaps next upgrade

Why not larger C sedan
I need fetch more than 5 ppl 50% of the time and space really matter, while driving experience is something I need to sacrifice

ya

if not why SUV?

internal space not bigger but overall car size much bigger

need bigger and special tyre cause heavier body

higher gravity center = worse handling

harder to brake
the reason to get SUV always = ego

suv looks good?
i dont know. cant follow your logic.

What is the difference between MPV and SUV?
*
Different a lot, mpv = multi purpose vehicle, suv = sport utility vehicle.

Do know what is suv, need to go back to the 90's and see their marketing branding and promotion... all connected to lifestyle.

Look up Freelander. This one can go off-road like the Land Rover. Can drive side-way along inclines (like that picture of a Toyota Cross leaning inside a ditch) without toppling. That time, the showroom at Jln Ampang got a specially build circuit for test drive.

SUV got roof rails, this for strapping roof rack to carry bicycles or canoe.

The 1st generation SUV like Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Suzuki Vitara, were 4 wheel drives.

All can go soft off-road, like on sandy beaches.

I prefer those that opens the back door up... when it's raining, reverse car and position the back facing beach/sea, sit at the back... smile.gif

I think the Cross will be the more practical compared to the new HRV. Rear door is very square at the glass section compared to the sloping HRV. Have to see it in person to judge.

But historically, the honda being honda will be the more entertaining to drive of the 2. Toyota's have very numb steering, but often better sound proofing, more comfortable suspension and the 1.8L engine is a proven reliable unit. Neither will set your pants on fire though, but you also won't go wrong with either.

The 2008 on the other hand.......... Don't. It's actually a segment smaller anyway.
