sedan more practical because it has a proper boot space covered and separated away from passenger cabin, and also more comfortable than SUV due to lower height.

unless your area is prone to flood, then a slightly higher SUV (or pickup truck even better, more ground clearance) makes sense otherwise no point getting one. and most family-oriented SUVs are not that tough to begin with, your typical shiny bling bling CRV CX-5 are certainly not Toyota Fortuner.

another viable option would be MPV. not talking about Alphard Vellfire Serena kind of MPV but something like Exora, Sienta, Wish etc. they quite good to drive and perfect for family outing.

ps: compare apple to apple in terms of size and pricing, not Ativa vs. Bentley ok...

Thanks, agree, after test drive, I think I prefer sedan over SUV. But my wife as passenger said sitting in the back of SUC are more comfortable compare to sedan.

I didn't have MPV in the list because of the size of the car and the fuel consumption. It will be used as a daily car, to send my kids and travel to office. My area so far not flood issue. When I sat in the SUV, I was overwhelmed by the its size, too big for me.

For RM130k-140k, I would choose Corolla Cross (hybrid) for 4 pax.

I have tested it, it is comfortable. The benefit of an SUV style is always the seating height and it is less hard on the knees and back when you bend down etc and need to pick up babies and stroller and luggage. Entry and egress also super easy compared to certain sedans.

In the same category you also have Subaru XV which is even smaller but more expensive. And also potentially the new HRV, but it remains to be seen what are the trim and engine options you can get at 130k (hopefully a lot) and for now it appears bigger than the outgoing model, yet we dont know for sure how practically bigger....??

The downside of Corolla cross is the size again in terms of width, it will be narrow for 3 adults side by side. It depends if you really need that tiny extra 2inch of hip / shoulder width. Why Toyota didnt package this wider, I am not sure. Then again they show with CH-R they can miss the entire package and not suffer.

Due to this, I opted for Civic which will accommodate full 3 adults....although just barely. It would've better if I went for a D segment but budget limited. A SUV style is also great when you want to collapse the rear seat to buy a baby crib or ikea furniture.

I directly overlook any vehicle that does not have any ADAS, for 130k.

To complete my story I have a Nissan Grand Livina if I need to do weird carrying duties...

I test drive corolla cross and corolla altis yesterday. Definitely prefer altis though both interior are quite outdated compared to others in the same segments. the comfort and handling of altis is very nice.

Didnt like C.Cross because of the manual foot brake, outdated interior, too plain for me. And I think Altis is still bigger than C.Cross. Haven't test drive Civic and Mazda 3 Sedan.

QUOTE(g00glesYYl @ May 12 2022, 02:19 PM)
looking forward for new HRV too. Hope it is lower than 130k for the top spec.

Should be around this price according to Honda SA. And she said will probably launch on September.

if you are fine with Sedan, go with Honda Civic. Size, feature, power, price all wins. If you are a person who don't care at all for power but prefer reliable badge, then Corolla and also a bit more comfortable. Dont discount the hybrid Cross until you also considered the potential petrol savings if you drive a lot, stuck in jam a lot and petrol price shoot up. All in all you I can't even feel the difference in handling between it and another sedan when driven in normal traffic conditions.

HRV is a great option if you can wait till Sept, except again we won't know exact details until then. To me, a short time till Sept....just book it and anytime when details or actual car is available and you don't want it, you can easily drop the booking.

Is the vehicle moving or not when she is sitting at the back? Sit in a show room sure la more comfortable as more headroom and space.

talking of similar price sedan/SUV and not moded or lowered type , I dont think SUV more comfortable then sedan when it is being driven on highways or trunk road, pot holes, stop and go traffic... as higher ride, more body roll, diving under brake, bouncy suspension, etc...

Civic generally is ok. Super big space. For short people like me 160cm my wife sitting at the back is like having S class legroom already.

I think FE and FC have similar low roofline. When you carry baby in out of car seat just careful not knocking the roof, although it is annoying sometimes.

For some reason, feels like more C-segment cars are having lower back head room already. Even the latest TNGA Corolla is too low for me. I'm 180cm...previous Altis felt roomier behind. I'm in a hunt for a C-segment sedan, but for now, Civic FE seems to be the best option at that price point...

Civic might have S class legroom but after a while you will feel nausea due to the suspension setup + claustrophobic
