QUOTE(Minana1004 @ Jul 25 2022, 11:06 AM) Hey guys, would like some advice here please So, How are you now after almost three year (Its 2024 now)...?? I am job hunting for better job scope and salary. Currently working as a DBA with a very bad startup company. I entered the company experienced but paid fresh grad salary, no WFH or hybrid at all, probation until 6 months and during probation cannot apply AL, if want to AL then pay cut. Work OT every weekend and when chasing deadlines, until late at night + weekends but no OT payment. Boss also like to micromanage, when I ignored his messages and calls during weekends because I was exhausted from working, the next Monday I go to office he will talk to me without looking at my face as if he's mad because I ignored him Honestly I'm trying to change career path to a Data Engineer or something related to ETL, as somehow I really like the process of extracting data from DB or websites and all that stuff but it's REALLY difficult to get a junior/entry level DE job now as every job posts saying they require 5-7 YOE. I accepted my current job offer during Covid because I was scared of being unemployed, before that I was a Data Analyst for an O&G company (contract). So a few weeks ago a recruiter approached me on LinkedIn for a job opportunity with the same O&G company I worked with before, as a DBA. But it will be a renewable contract job, if there are projects that still need me to work for them, they'll renew my contract. And my payroll, benefits, bonus, etc will be managed by the recruiter's company. So it's an indirect hire. Here's the catch. The salary that they offered me is more than double my current salary, 108% salary increment, hybrid work and better work culture (I've worked there before so I'm familiar with the work culture). I also attended one interview with local bank for Junior DE position but they are VEERYY slow with the hiring process that I have given up already. So here I am torn between going with the O&G contract job with great salary but staying on the same career path OR continue job hunting for the new career path that I desire. What is the best course of action here guys? Would really appreciate your 2 cents, I'll try to consider all opinions |

Allowance RM325 Contractual Bonus (months): <= 1 month Performance, Variable Bonus & Commissions (months): Increment 3-5% per year (hearsay from my colleague). Guess I'm the outlier, increment every >= 30% based on performance Work Flexibility (where relevant) : Work From Home Availability: 3 days office 2 days home Annual Leaves: 15 days Flexi Working Hours: Yes, as long as you complete your job Benefits (where relevant) : Health Benefits: Clinic outpatients but I have forgotten how much. Probably >=RM500 Transport Benefits: Included in the fixed allowance. 250 Mobile / Internet / Gadget Benefits: They provide a laptop for you to work, and an RM75 fixed allowance Other Benefits: - RM250 a year on dental Future Prospects (personal outlook) : Current salary against peers in the industry: Guess I'm average within my circle and industry. But definitely has more upside Growth prospects: Already plateaued in my current company, both in position and skills set. Where I will go from here: Thinking of jumping ship now. So there were 2 offers to me, but I'm still thinking about which can propel me to the next level for growth (gaining valuable skills and knowledge, not so much monetary although its added bonus). So seeking all the sifu-sifu here, have any suggestions or advice for me? Thanks in advance! 🙏 Offer 1: - Career Growth: Still can climb the corporate ladder, but it’s challenging due to being a large MNC. Can work across different technical stacks, but I need to ensure it doesn’t affect my existing responsibilities. - Work Culture: More stringent SOPs and an older workforce. - Offer: Basic RM12,000/month 1-month annual wage supplement Bonus: ~2 months (assumed) EPF: 15% employer contribution - Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in office at KLCC; may become 5 days/week). [B]Offer 2: - Career Growth: Flat hierarchy; no corporate ladder. No promotion opportunities, just performance-based increments. No chance to work across different technical stacks because the company needs a senior backend to lead the team. - Work Culture: Lax SOPs, younger and more energetic environment. Offer: Basic RM14,000/month Bonus: Maximum 1 month EPF: 12% employer contribution - Work Arrangement: Fully remote (office visits optional) |

impressive and you are above average at least I would say, will go for offer 1 as you are at the age to grow/gain further. Look into annual package for both to compare side by side
