Hello all, would like to update again this year as I’ve gotten a new opportunity last month.

My monthly gross salary in RM (not including allowances, only base) progression:
2016 (started in Dec): 3K
2017: 3.3K (confirmation) -> 3.6K
2018: 3.8K -> 6K (promotion)
2019: 6.5K
2020: 6.7K -> 8.1K (new job)
2021: 10K (new job)
2022: 16K (new job)
2023: 18K -> 24K (new job)

Recently join an MNC at KLCC area, they are one of the top 10 players in their industry. The role is mostly in management with little to no technical implementation. Not sure I’ll like it but no harm trying.

Let’s see how. Will update again if any changes in the near future.
*
Is your role still the same in this most recent move? I would assume you will have to take up some leadership aka management role with that pay.

QUOTE(NAVEE @ Jul 9 2023, 02:54 PM)
What do you guys think should be the way to negotiate salary with your new company?

I am jumping to a company that has a reduction of 10 days AL compared to before, lower epf employer contribution, lower medical.

Should I ask for 30% of my basic and fix allowance or take into consideration the AL and epf contribution as well?

I am thinking of asking for 40% but due to the company being a little cost efficient I am worried of losing the job opportunity.
*
I think it's no harm to ask for more. For me, I always ask for the increment that I think I am comfortable with, as you will be the one making the move, moving to a new environment, and bearing the risk that things may not work out the way you expect it to be.

If they cannot pay what you are asking, they will lower down your ask. It's part of the entire negotiation process.

Experience before joining (years) : 4 years
Location : KL
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): 50 hrs
Basic Salary: RM 9800 (15% increment only)

Should I take this offer? Is AVP average salary usually this low?
*
Your expected salary is more than this and they counter you with 15% increment? I think you should negotiate for a higher increment. Depending on which bank you are applying to, AVP position might be in abundance. But I think it can be slightly higher than this.

Imo quality of life in myr with your salary trumps sg 13k.

1) rental is expensive in sg. Additionally the downpayment for a new place is crazy assuming you going for private projects with a 30% downpayment iinm. Meaning, you are nowhere close to owning a home for the next few years on top of paying rental.

2) if you are childless, yes public transportation is ok. But imaging having a baby/toddler and going to buy groceries? Not easy.

3) you didn take into account your wife who if working will most likely need to find a role there as well. If your wife has income here, you will have even better disposable income.

With your salary here you can easily buy your own place instead of renting along with 2 cars at 2k installment a month.
*
And not sure how old is your kid. Education is expensive for non citizen/pr.

Guess it’s considered as a taboo in Asian families. I don’t discuss about this with my family too.

Peak as in ceiling pay for a project manager? You can always move on to become project director or programme manager that is overseeing multiple projects? As a project manager I am assuming you are managing one or at most two projects at a time.

You are a IT business analyst? As we are slowly transitioning into agile, maybe take a few product owner course to make the transition into a new role?
