That's because they are in control of the national HSBB infra. Other ISP like Maxis Celcom etc rides on TM infra, they cannot modify and add pole.

Yes I'm aware of that. But the cost is still very expensive. And the DP is just for me only.

They just can ignore me and give reasons like to far from nearest DP or my house is on top of the hill, difficult to tarik cable or something like that.

Im not unifi shill. Just sharing my experience here. Maybe some people find it useful.

Agree as one DP just for one house equals to low ROI which Unifi is unlikely to do so in a normal situation.
Glad they're willing to do and now you able to enjoy the speed of fibre!

In my case the contractor charge RM400 for 1 pole. It is understandable because they need to carry the pole from the foot of the hill to the top of the hill where house is located by hand. Can't use big lorry because to steep. For business premise TM will charge up to RM800 per pole.

I will stay with unifi because there's squirel & sometimes monkey in my area, easier if something happen to the fibre cable.

Thats why they put the DP at my front gate and use anti rodent fibre cable. Less risk of squirel damaging the cable.
*
well yes it is the same reason why my family of prefer unifi if fibre damage faster restoration

Are you sure? I saw Digi put their infrastructure, Time and Maxis have already done so too. TNB too.

Time Fiber 100Mb/s is RM99 per month
Time Fiber RM99 x 24 Months = RM2376
UniFi RM119 x 18 Months (minus the free 6 months) = RM2142

Time Fiber gives Public IP whereas, with UniFi you'll have to provide valid proof of why you need Public IP such as CCTV usage
Time Fiber also provides symmetrical download & upload speed for 100Mb/s package. Whereas with TM, the upload speed 100Mb/s package is only 30Mb/s

Both have their pros & cons so you'll have to decide for yourself

Hi is the mesh wifi router provided by UNIFI good? what is the model? if not good, any suggestion for a goof wifi mesh router?

another thing is will the mesh router experience drop in speed by half for each hop of node same like wifi extender?

thank you guys

For me Unifi give 2 fiberhome SR1041Y router 1 main router & 1 for the node.

I'm on 300mbps package and got 500mbps trial for 6 months the speed at the node is 240-260mbps. But if U use Lan cable at the node U will get 300mbps upwards.

The router range is ok. But if U have many device connected to network then you will notice the lag. Maybe not enough CPU power compared to other router that have triple or quad core cpu.

HI thanks for response so the speed will still drop by half from 500 to around 250, I can't imagine how to pull and hide a Lan cable up to my third floor haha, 5ghz should max above 1gbps, weird why you only get 300mbps even when using Lan cable. Maybe is the limit of the router. Anyways thanks for response.

The node still using wifi to connect to the main router. I connect the the node via Lan cable to my laptop at my room. The main router in the living room.
I test it multiple times. If laptop connect to the node via wifi i get half the speed. If connect via lan cable to the node can get higher speed than using wifi.

TNB just reuse their electrical poles to add fibre
in somewhat rare cases, Maxis, Celcom, the others will lay their own infrastructure
as for TIME, they try to expand but usually is limited to only high rise

I'm using unfi 100mbps. Is it worth it to buy a WiFi 6 router? The thing that attract me the most is that I read WiFi 6 can save phone battery life. Does anyone get better batter life after switching to WiFi 6?

Not quite, for my area TNB installed new poles everywhere just for their fibre
Only for those super high density area they will reuse electrical pole it seems

I think what makes it faster is you are willing to pay partially for the pole. Anyway that's a good decision since wireless broadband cannot match with the consistency of fibre.

Go for Time. RM99 for 100mbps versus RM119. Also Time gives symmetrical speed compared to Unifi.

There is one ISP who has proposed to the Ministry of Communications to introduce an affordable fibre plan with Quota.

no, not really in terms of speed, coverage maybe a bit better but negligible and battery saving i have not heard of it. if there is it will be minimal anyways

1. Beared by Unifi

2. Nowadays new installation they'll use fast connector, splicing only needed when they need to fuse 2 cables together for extension or repair

Damn. I got scammed rm300 by the TM contractor then. Time to report with TM.

Thanks for the information!
