TLDR: apple love notches! from phone now bring over to macbooks next few years they will make it smaller a bit

16gb is more than enough for basic use..in fact 8gb already overkill but now start at 16 :
yea definitely getting.. been waiting for it since March and held myself back coz I heard of the redesign.. so suffered for so many months.. now another issue is whether to get 14" or 16" since the price gap is only 2k..back then price gap is about double the price between 13" and 16"...

If u love to use large screen and not really using any external display, just go for the 16. I’m am an ex 16inch user and the screen looks really great to do all the stuff that you need.

If u already have an external 4k display, perhaps u can go for 14inch. However, once u got so use to the mbp line Retina display, it’s so hard to adapt to even those higher price tag 4k monitor . Some of the mac features like True Tone is not supported on normal 4k monitor. Unless we have the cash to buy apple pro xdr display .

u are rite, the bottom part indeed does not look nice. the display part (top part) to me is totally ok even the notch.  if u ask me, i prefer not to have those ports but have the same old slim design for the bottom and squarish design also.

it also makes the macbook pro a lot heavier now - u are rite that it goes back to 2012 time that kind of weight.

When I saw it just now, straight I was like, "That's a 2015 model MacBook Pro design"   

correct it is 2015 design. haha

even the weight is totally similar to 2015 time weight due to all the ports.... 

only the top part (display part) is brand new. haha.

think 13" will stick around for a while before discontinuing, dont think they will make it base model though... maybe in 1-2 years they will be removed from the store entirely

This 2021 bottom looks more like the original MacBook Pro/old PowerBook G4 bottoms before the unibody designs.

2008 onwards up until 2015 has a much more tapered-edged bottom corners until Jony Ive screwed the design up with his thinness obsession...

For all it's worth I prefer the previous 2008-2015 design...

The 2021 design is hideous especially with the stands (legs whatever you wanna call it) jutting out from the bottom... Jobs and Ive will never have approved... It's a good thing they didn't follow the iPhone/iPad squarish design thru and thru... There are things that look nicer on smaller things, doesn't mean the same design language speaks the same elegance on larger items...

In short, another boring design for the next 5 years or more... 

Tbh I have no idea what’s the hate about Touch Bar, I personally quite like it…now they replace the F keys feels like we are 5-10 years backwards…plus the design feels like pre 2016 mbp

yes, it is cool. i love it too although i do not fully utilise it. but it just make the macbook pro looks modern.

I’m still somewhat disappointed on why apple still didn’t include the 5G/LTE sim capability in their macbook lineups?

Yeap it does make the laptop feel more modern.. so much of hoo-ha around and they finally remove it, now comes with the normal F keys and dull looking black board..

It’s different now though compared to before when 16” is so much of a power house compared to the 13”, even the base 16” beat the customed 13” far far ahead (unless you max out the 13” specs)….now with them pushing 14”’s spec so close to 16” (in fact everything is the same besides the 2 cores), there is really much reason to go 16” unless you really need the bigger screen…in a way it’s a blessing now we can go 14” for the mobility yet have almost the same power as what the 16” could offer

yeah indeed. i still love the 2016 to 2020 macbook pro design.
and i love the butterfly keyboard too although many complained about it.

if me i will only go for 14-inch. the 16-inch is too bulky and heavy to carry around. 

Same I actually prefer the previous design.. was anticipating a squarish one but now even more curve than before
Yea since there's not really much reason to purposely go 16" anymore (spec wise), for the portability I'll get the 14 anytime..

yeah. unfortunately this 'design' will likely to stay for at least 4 years if looking at the redesign life cycle.

anyway, i am still using my mac mini (2018) - main device that is on 24x7 and macbook pro (2017) as backup device.
they are still 'powerful' enough for my daily usage although they are using the intel chip. so unlikely will upgrade for the next few years still.

good thing about Apple Macs are that they are value for money, which one can easily use it for more than 10 years.
i still have colleagues using 2012 macbook pro now and surprisingly they are still working.
