Budget is not an issue... I can get RM600+ discount so might consider getting a 1TB ones. It's just i can't decide whether or not I should change. Need some time to make up my mind.

If budget is not an issue I will opt for the 14" and put in a M1 Max chip. But you should probably still wait for some reviews and benchmark test before taking the splurge.

I'm still hesitating... Am using a mbp 13" 2017 with i5 8gb ram and 512gb storage. I usually just use my laptop to for excel + ppt + PS AI LR to create posters and to edit photos + web browsing.

Although my current mbp is good enough to fulfill my needs, it has been giving me a lot of problems like the stage light effect and the butterfly-keyboard issues since 2 years ago. I've changed the top case and screen twice but the problems just come back from time to time.

If you guys were in my shoes, would you change to 14" mbp or just stick to the 2017 mbp?
*
u changed the screen and top case (battery?).

i have the screen problem for my 2017 i5 16GB RAM 512GB storage too. The screen will have a 'ghosting' effect after it is turned on for some time. the effect will go away for some time and come back again recurringly.

I changed the top case for 3 times in total also due to the battery bloated issue also. the first two time changed of battery did not help in the problem as apple claimed that there is no issue detected based on the run test. if i insisted to change the display,i need to pay for it which the cost to me i would rather get a new one instead. however, the last battery changed i had done early this year, they reflashed my macbook pro by reinstalling the macOS, suprisngly after that my macbook pro is ok so far. no more having the ghosting issue.

I had used it more than 4 years now, it is still a capable device although it is on Intel processor. to my daily tasks, it is more than sufficent.
so i do not have plan to upgrade any time soon too despite that the new 14" MBP is really cool.

Well, I guess you might not need 1TB storage then. You can take 512GB and save the money to purchase iCloud, either 200GB or 2TB (it work to expand your devices storage). It can sync and back up your files, across all your devices (iPhone, iPad, MacBook). I find it very useful, especially the iCloud Photo, iCloud desktop, and iCloud documents.

Randomly back-up 1TB is really time consuming, not safe (low security), ppl can access your external hard disk. Or, you could try back-up with Time-Machine.

Guys, do you have an idea when will the new Macbook Pros be available here in MY? I was initially planning to get the 13in M1 with 16GB RAM, but the price of the new 14in base model is not too far from it. Any thoughts?

Yeap now it comes in 16gb/512gb as base model, from the 13” customized add here and there you will come up close to the 14” price, factoring in all other things like bigger screen, 120hz Liquid Retina, and a bunch of other stuffs….I would just go M1 pro…

That's what I thought too. Any idea when will it be available here and does Apple always validate or check if you buy using the Education Price?

Not sure when will be available but should be within 7-14 days…seldom heard or verification on education but it’s not hard with all the education nowadays ie kids studies or home school or kids schooling etc…

Potentially in a couple of weeks? I would go for the base 14" model over the existing M1 MBP. You get the larger screen, pro motion, Mini LED with higher brightness and faster memory bandwidth.

Basically a whole bunch of stuffs more than the 13” M1 MBP, kind of a no brainer decision actually, especially for those who are planning to custom higher ram/ssd, even more reason to go for the 14”….well unless budget is an issue though…
