Yea I have colleagues using old mbp too and still going strong now so they have no plans to upgrade.. some initially waited for this redesign 14" but when the price tag goes 8.8k for base model, they decided to skip as well..quite steep imp but if look into all the goodies they put into this, then it's reasonable..

actually if they are normal users, go for M1 macbook air is actually a good choice. tongue.gif

now apple makes the price gap between m1 macbook vs m1 pro/max macbook quite significant. so choosing between them is much more easier actually.

just waiting for the reviews to come out on how much performance the M1 Pro / Max actually provides for real world software.

also does anyone have info on the IP rating ? Main reason I'm using a Thinkpad is for it's basic dust/water protection.

Real world software? Already have the M1 chip as example already. What do you think?

2015...? Seriously...?   rclxub.gif  blink.gif

You guys should have your eyes examined...  laugh.gif

This 2021 bottom looks more like the original MacBook Pro/old PowerBook G4 bottoms before the unibody designs.

2008 onwards up until 2015 has a much more tapered-edged bottom corners until Jony Ive screwed the design up with his thinness obsession...

For all it's worth I prefer the previous 2008-2015 design...

The 2021 design is hideous especially with the stands (legs whatever you wanna call it) jutting out from the bottom... Jobs and Ive will never have approved... tongue.gif It's a good thing they didn't follow the iPhone/iPad squarish design thru and thru... There are things that look nicer on smaller things, doesn't mean the same design language speaks the same elegance on larger items...

In short, another boring design for the next 5 years or more...  yawn.gif

Yalor, when i see it i also surprised why they use back the old design. But good also lah, at least it is their own design, not the copy from existing windows laptop.

I'm OK with the overall changes.. As long as its a good and powerful upgrade.

My choice would be the MBP 14 M1 Max 1TB SSD & 32GB RAM at 13999. Just dreaming though 🥲.

I love it that they reintroduce the HDMI port back to the MacBook.

A lot of my senior-colleagues uses the 2017 MacBook Pro 15" and they would often complain the lack of HDMI and how the HDMI-adapter would fail them during critical troubleshooting time.

Yes! I have many colleagues who keep misplacing their dongles as they move around the office building going from meetings to meetings. Most of the time, the dongle is still left attached to the HDMI cable! LOL

agree, it's reasonable for such powerful packed.

but whether you need it or not is another question.

The same spec that I had my eye on. Probably would get somewhere along with those specs, if I find a need for the MBP hahaha. Currently have no use for one hahaha

yeah, based on various youtuber reviews, the current M1 version is already sufficient to handle most of the work out there, or software out there.

so the more powerful M1 Pro/ Max are really designed for the powerful user.

agree, the 13" MBP M1 is good enough for most tasks to be honest, unless you're planning out for some future proof specs and dont mind to splurge the additional $$ biggrin.gif

hmmm, it's a personal choice, if i dont need it now (more for future proof reason), i would prefer to save the money up front, go with m1 only.

4-5 years down the road, they will definitely have something better and thus making the "better than M1 chip" version cheaper too.

but again, that's my personal preference.

for a light user like myself, no regret getting the MBA M1 version last month rclxms.gif

won't really need to upgrade easily for the next 5 years, for the tasks that i'm doing on my mba.

Hahah same here. I can’t justify the need to spend that much since I’m fine with my Mac mini. Not yet anyway 👀

I'm still hesitating... Am using a mbp 13" 2017 with i5 8gb ram and 512gb storage. I usually just use my laptop to for excel + ppt + PS AI LR to create posters and to edit photos + web browsing.

Although my current mbp is good enough to fulfill my needs, it has been giving me a lot of problems like the stage light effect and the butterfly-keyboard issues since 2 years ago. I've changed the top case and screen twice but the problems just come back from time to time.

If you guys were in my shoes, would you change to 14" mbp or just stick to the 2017 mbp?

Same here. If they don't keep the base 13" mbp for the M2 for next year I might as well move over to mba. I have never been a pro user for the mbp tongue.gif

Agree. But I worry about all the future compatibility so I am still holding out for M2. Will be safest for the next 5 years haha

I would suggest getting a 2015 15" i7 MBP. The used price is very reasonable now. The base config has 16GB RAM. It is more than enough for your needs and it is built like a tank. The 2 USB ports, SDXC slot and HDMI port is so so convenient. No issues with display / keyboard like the later MBPs. Just clean the fans, replace the thermal paste, and you're good to go.

If I were to get another mbp, I would avoid any intel mbp... My 2017 mbp heats up super quickly weh... It's either m1 or m1 pro drool.gif

If I'm you, since it's time to change ill go for non Intel ones for many obvious reasons, if budget is an issue then get M1.. If no budget issue then M1 Pro... Both also good choices...

Budget is not an issue... I can get RM600+ discount so might consider getting a 1TB ones. It's just i can't decide whether or not I should change. Need some time to make up my mind.
