in terms of look, indeed the old 2016-2020 13-inch macbook pro design is still nicest.

no doubt, the new 14-inch is a beast for functionalities in expense of the look.

somehow also i find that the new 14-inch and 16-inch macbook pro have a much more 'matte' feeling body which is not bad actually.

Potentially in a couple of weeks? I would go for the base 14" model over the existing M1 MBP. You get the larger screen, pro motion, Mini LED with higher brightness and faster memory bandwidth.

Basically a whole bunch of stuffs more than the 13” M1 MBP, kind of a no brainer decision actually, especially for those who are planning to custom higher ram/ssd, even more reason to go for the 14”….well unless budget is an issue though…
*
certainly no brainer. it is totally not worth it to get the 13-inch M1 MBP, if u add in the same storage 512GB and RAM of 16GB, the price is just a little bit difference comparing to base 14-inch MBP and not to forget the small difference comes with so many difference in terms of specs.

no centerstage...and heavier by 200gm than 2020 m1 pro..bummer..hv to skip and wait for 2021 as these 2 air my main consideration

ATM I guess sticking to my 2020 I5 Intel 4 ports
*
MBP 2020 Intel 4 ports are not cheap. but still cheaper than my 2017 MBP 4 ports though. haha.

seriously the new 14-inch MBP is considered very cheap for what you are getting comparing to any previous MBP. tongue.gif

agree the touchbar is good, and yes i will miss the touchbar over F keys..
*
i think many prefer the F keys because they are pro users that use F keys a lot? probably for programmers?

as a normal users that do not do pro work on my MBP, i love the touchbar. haha.

200g extra is not too bad for a laptop..plus all the goodies that it bring, kinda justify the weight it carries smile.gif

actually quite a big difference if one is carrying it on the go.

i bought the 2014 15-inch macbook pro at first because that time they upgraded the 2015 13-inch macbook pro but not the 15-inch.
that time feel that paying a bit extra and get the 16-inch is more worth it. but after carry it for less than 1 week i regret about that. that time the weight of it is 2.02kg which i totally cannot tahan the weight to carry it to work daily. immediately after less than 2 weeks they relased a new 2015 15-inch macbook pro with AMD graphic card. Just lucky that before that I reported heat problem of my 2014-inch macbook pro and apple replaced it with the new 2015 15-inch macbook pro for me. but again after 1-2 weeks of usage i decided to sell it away.

after that I get the 2016 12-inch macbook as replacement. but after 1 year of usage i found it the screen kind of too small for laptop and the processing power is simply too weak. so i sold it away also.

then i decided to get the 2015 13-inch macbook pro (refurbished) because i wanted to keep a last MBP with the glowing apple logo. but after use for less than 2 weeks i found that i do not get used to the scissor keyboard of it after i used the butterfly keyboard for one year plus and also the weight is heavier so i returned it.

eventually i got the 2017 macbook pro (4 ports) and use it until now and bought another 2018 mac mini (refurbished) as my 2017 macbook pro battery was replaced for 3 times since i bought it until early this year as i technically left it on 24x7 like a PC, so the battery cycle is damn low which always below 10 even used more than 1 year. the battery literally bloated every 1 to 2 years thus the replacement. luckily all the replacements were free for the 1st time. 2nd and 3rd times were free also because i was using the butterfly keyboard replacement programme although my keyboard had no issue.

now my 2017 macbook pro is idle in my shelf most of the time as mac mini became my daily computer. it is more suitable for usage of 24x7. although it is on intel chip and performance is really so so as compared to m1 but i need bootcamp so i will stick to it for the moment.

maybe next time then i will consider to get the 14-inch MBP when mac mini started to fail me in terms of performance. tongue.gif

Back to old day (used to owned a 2011 Mac Book Pro) design and I'm okay with it. Sacrificed aesthetic for functions, Apple doing it right this time.

Pro users use keyboard a lot and are usually touch typing. Touch bar is bad for touch typing.

Considering

13inch MacBook Pro m1

And

14inch MacBook Pro m1 pro
I have the 2016 MacBook Pro and the battery life has traumatised me… I heard the 2013 MacBook Pro is has super good battery, but the 14 inch has pro motion sad.gif

My budget is not an issue but I’m having a dilemma here !

And also would like to game dota 2 if possible hahaa
*
Some reviews are saying the M1 Max 32GPU could run like a RTX 2080. Dota 2 definitely not an issue haha.

Based on previous availability trend, it usually takes 4 weeks after the official announcement before it becomes available in our market. I’m expecting the third week of November. Authorized resellers may start the registration of interest as early as next week.

What do you mean by "2018 mac mini is much more suitable to be your daily 24/7 computer" compared to your 2017 macbook pro?

Wow that's hell of a mac journey you had within the past decade biggrin.gif yes macbook Intel has limitations, no matter how powerful they were back then, they were still just laptop, cant compare with desktop mac.. I'm sure the M1 mbp has turn things around with the thermal and battery etc, and of course the M1 Pro will be even better.. hope your next upgrade to m Pro chips will take over desktop usage..

Back in Intel days, a laptop is always a laptop with lots of limitations but they provide mobility.. Mac mini can withstand with the hardcore long hours that the Intel mbp can't... Hope the M1 Pro and max will have the best of both worlds
