As long as the amount generates enough dividends to maintain or exceed your current lifestyle + emergency buffer.

This.

Also, if you are below retirement age and planning to FIRE, the minimum of 'a lot' is 1m. Because even if you can live with dividends generated from 700k, you can't withdraw them.

i agree with the first part,
boss always want worker work for salary.

but next  you said go find salary with zero effort, got such bosses?
read newspaper cut magazine and paste.......
good salary for no effort work?

contradictory statements....  hmm.gif  hmm.gif

wah that doesnt sound nice for a man to say.....
living off woman´s money......  hmm.gif

i would rather say my wife is financially independent
i dont use her money.
*
not contradictory if you follow the discussions... someone says nego with boss do less work take less pay... i say doesn't work... imply best change job that meets the intent and give a tongue in cheek example of such job... sure got other duties lah than just reading newspaper... wink.gif

big companies will have a corporate or external affairs department... pay is ok because have to follow pay scale... and more than ok if its mnc...

as for "living off her money"... is only temporary... wink.gif

Hi folks, want to ask, does having children stopped you from achieving FIRE?
I am planning to FIRE in my 40s but just afraid children will prevent it
*
Yes that's one reason why wife and i continue working after 45 although we could retire and do nothingness and still finance kids for studies

The issue is not money
We don't want kids to see us doing nothing at home. Won't motivate them at all to work harder and improve themselves. We want them to start from zero and work their reputation up.

in the context of whole Malaysia, T10 average salary is only around 8K rm per month.

so, working backward, around 1.5 to 2 million in EPF generates T10 lifestyle without working. good enough?

the scary part is T10 only 8Krm salary per month.

T10 konon. But actually B40 only. 8k is peanut butter with roti.
All these grading by EPF is way outdated.

what to do.... i just use what is official available for us to view in terms of stats... given by dosm.

also I picked the one for whole Malaysia... KL's T10 is 11K rm pm.

that's the scary part... if the stats is true... what does it mean?
if the stats are false or outdated, it just means gov skewing the data...

Can spend time and encourage your kid to do something together. Priceless.

Teach them things and give them a head start in life. Show them because of this, can retire early. What not so good? Besides, I have tons of things to learn in my retirement life. Time I don't have before.

I wasn't referring to a post retirement income. I was referring to the grading by EPF. which is mainly during your active working life.

Dont think its epf grading, its department of statistics.which come up.with these T20, 40 income tresholds.

But its quite consistent with EPF account balance demographics, which is published annually.

Funny, for FIRE without any fixed asset.
As u encountered first hand KLSE is double edge sword.
Portfolio has to includes shophouse/ apartment to collect rental.
Money can depreciate over years. But asset relatively stable or longterm willappreciate. Rental income is the dividend

What you are trying to say is diversification... real estate is just one type of asset, and there are ways to gain exposure to it.
real estate has its own risk (and reward).
