With friends from private or international school, ig, influencers, etc,  brand conscious is almost unavoidable. The challenge is how to make them not to follow the herd.

My son went to international school.and.now in college. He no Gip a Pak about brands and certainly don't follow herd. It's all about the parents upbringing.

Enough la, many dont even have 1million also surviving
Need reassurance, give la
Pity rm 1million now become 300k also later
Preserve income hold tight to your job
Continue working dont stop
Dirty work gives good money?
How high can it go?must have special skill
Professional then got value

Point to self. 30 years down the road, I am likely dead(hopefully, don't want to live too long, old and senile and immobilized). I think if can last another 20 years also more than enough. So I am not so worry about inflation. As long as passive income > expenses and DEBT FREE and you have at least 1 paid off property (so you have a roof over your head no matter what), I believe it is absolutely fine.
Inflation eat also never mind lah. So much money for what, cannot bring into coffin also.

In this new era, the key for a long career is to find one which will not be so easily obsolete and replace by AI. Looking at the progress of AI...it is pretty scary. It can even replace jobs once deemed impossible like creating art ChatGPT is really the beginning of SkyNet....it's freaking amazing. I have even asked ChatGPT to write some codes for Commodore Amiga.... So one of the best career which I feel to go now is the AI field.
..you should be behind creating the technology of AI...then you are somewhat save.of termination by SkyNet....

Yes inflation is over emphasize to scare people off
Just live within our own capability
Come what may we just face it

If you earn 5-10k being made to feel sad as some earn 50k, then remind self many are earning even lesser than us
Why worry unnecessarily.
*
The key to being happy is to live within your means. Target a few nice things in life is fine....but unnecessary luxuries like eating abalone everyday or drive a Lambo is not necessary.

Unker old already eat vege and egg also ok. No need eat so much. Why need so much money and cause stress to yourself. I don't live in my car, drive Proton or Perodua also ok.

I know people who drives big car and probably made more than me, doesn't seems to be happy. I also know a friend who is a high income earner, just live simple life, take MRT to work most of the time. Eat vege and egg healthy lifestyle. But I am pretty sure he has at least a couple of millions more than me.

well. i would certainly tell her a rough figure with a discount factor of 30%. but since she didn't ask me, i did not tell her.... until i told her where i place the will, and all the accounts statement (unit trust, shares, banks, insurance policies etc etc. i do print year end statement for security). one thing lead to another and voila...

nowadays bursa statement have the total value in ringgit. last time it only shows you how much shares you have without printing the values in it... kinda sucks
*
Can I ask. Your account statement and will different right? So you need to update your statement periodically and keep it?

just entering college, overseas education can take up > RM1 million if your kid wants to be a doctor!

Yeah. Overseas education for doctor need RM1m. Other course maybe less.

Seriously, with RM1m. Better teach kid how to invest and get a head start in life rather than slugging it out as houseman here.

Unless that RM1m is like less than 10% of your networth, ok lah, can dump it into salty overseas water.

No point sending kids for full tertiary studies overseas. Local private tertiary is good enuff. Its not worth it to sacrifice one’s own retirement and happiness just to send kids overseas at a high cost.

Yep. Unless you super rich ok lah. A few million ringgit is loose change, like Ku Nan.

If just barely manageable, spending more than half your networth for kid's education is insane. Kid also won't thank you, work as coolie instead of have a better head start or another property or two.

QUOTE(kochin @ May 16 2023, 10:27 PM)
guys, am thinking of taking the next step.

kindly advise if i have left out anything?

assuming if there are flaws or things i left out in the calculation please highlight.

ideally of course hoping that current savings are sufficient to cover and be in self sustaining mode, but of course if inflation rises, can always start "eating" into the current savings.

if anybody is able to help to improve the spreadsheet to say:
inflation rate at 3% to 5%, what would be the current required savings (both basic and upgrade version) value to cover the increase year on year for me to say live another 35 years.
alternatively same scenario applies but without self sustaining model but depreciating savings model.

thanks.

PS: any advise on what to do post retirement? i am currently in mid 40's
*
Do you have paid off properties you can collect rentals? Is your spouse still working? Some of the items are too low...RM500 for food
..how many people eat? Pork prices are crazy nowadays. Normal chicken also exceed RM20 seekor, don't even think kampung chicken . Seafood no need to say. Not enough bro, even for 2.

I am already retired...and I can tell you food you need RM 1.5k at least (not kira fancy restaurants dining). Travelling? Not sure what is that...if vacation cuti cuti Malaysia also very difficult. Recently went Japan Horiday...about RM15k per pax.

IMO, 2.2m is only kuli level. True T1 throws a couple of million for loose change only.

a lot of people keeps claiming that xxx amount not enough to retire.
some say rm5mil, some say rm2mil, some say rm10mil also not enough.

reality is majority of people never do hit this "savings" amount in their entire lifetime and majority people still somehow survive it.

true, one may not get to experience the luxury lifestyle that one aspires to or get used to when working in their prime, but let's accept the fact that most people do get by with much smaller savings upon retirement.

KWSP official stand is to target for minimum RM240k by 55. am pretty sure they have certain basis for it. you wanna be better or over achieve it, good for you if you do.

but to what end? continue to chase your RM10mil, RM20mil, etc? work until the day you die?
*
Bro...the RM240k is a joke. Totally unrealistic. Their basis was based on decades ago and only been updated once or twice to the RM240k figures now.

When I was a kid, chap fan can be eaten for RM1. Now RM10 also cannot.

Yes, you need to do a calculation because everyone's assets are different. But if you want to live comfortably (and I mean no lavish lifestyle), RM 3 mil is roughly the net worth mount you will need in order to generate passive income PERPECTUALLY between RM5k to RM10k per month, depending on the type of assets your net worth is.

Sure you can get by with say RM500k....but you better find some source of active income and continue working and basically no retirement for you.

Here is a recent article on this issue. Although it's much lower than my calculations (because I want it runs PERPECTUALLY), this article at least set a much more realistic target even if you expect the retirement nest to dwindle down to zero but at least have 20 years to it. Again, RM240k is a joke.

QUOTE(Haloperidol @ May 20 2023, 08:11 AM)
For those case that requires urgent attention, you can be rest assured that you will be treated accordingly.

Example,
Open fracture
- you fall off the motorbike, there is a wound until you can see the bone.
- according to guideline you need the surgery within the golden hours or else infection rate comes in sky high rate.

Example,
Appendicitis
- If you dont open it and take it out, has big risk to perforated aka burst and become more bad
- Usually appendix will do on Midnight as Morning/Afternoon for more life-or-death scenario case.

Example,
Severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)- mostly will send to Gov to do lol.

there are some more example, mostly is "if you dont do it now, you will worsen over time" that kind of case.
- those case can go to government as they will treat you ASAP.
- of course this knowledge is kinda privillaged as it is up to certain doctor/specialist/consultant that decide which operation is urgent
---
For those which best seek care at private

Example, Cataract
- ofc gov has initiative to do those surgery but waiting list so long.
- waiting list in 3 to 6 month plus lol.

Example, Reducible Hernia
- waiting list for GA (with general anaesthesia) around 7 to 10 month lol
- waiting list for LA around 3 to 6 month lol
- trust me you wont like Local Anaesthesia operation hahaha.

Example, TKR / THR, Joint Replacement, Steroid Injection (maybe)

Mostly elective surgery that you dont feel like to wait lol
*
Basically, for something you gonna die, go to gov hospital. Something that is non lethal, proven treatment, go to private for faster treatment and no long queue.
