How do know gliders have contracted diarrhea? Any DIY treatment for it?
*

Very, very liquidish poo, seems uncontrollable and very smelly.

Change the diet as per what Hun has mentioned and perhaps need some vet consultation cuz the vet will give some meds too.

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Dec 14 2007, 08:27 PM)
So nice you guys can bring pets to work hahahah.... luckily I can do that at the college I go to hahahah.

Anyway, the last gathering had alot of planning. It was a great BBQ and very comfortable. We can do that again since Reanne's friend doesn't mind us having another BBQ party there.

But it would be great if we can do it at a place that is easy to travel to... See how lah, plan now, only next year can have hahahah.... got lots to get ready.

Gerbil owners also asking when will we have the next small animal gathering.... maybe do a combine small animal gathering again.... see how it goes.

About the nails thing, I get loads of scratches.... from every pet I have.... people think I abuse myself I LOL...
*

Yeap, we need a thorough planning for the gathering smile.gif

After Christmas I should be able to plan more actively wink.gif

QUOTE(emino @ Dec 14 2007, 09:39 PM)
Will they stay calm in the pouches if we take them riding in a bike?
Just wondering since motorcycle is my main method of travels.
*

Like most people's advise, they can be trained. But my concern is that some gliders won't take it very well and might poo or pee in the pouch due to the discomfort and noise...

QUOTE(Taipan1 @ Dec 14 2007, 10:29 PM)
Hello People - been busy.
Seem's that nail trimming is a problem, what about buying one of those "rough" perches that are sold for birds to keep their nails trimmed. Would that work instead of clipping them all the time ???.
*

Hi!

I don't think that's a good idea... Just like what Reanne has mentioned, might hurt their feet and could cause excessive trimmings too.

QUOTE(slurpee_slushee @ Dec 14 2007, 10:44 PM)

guys..

my ally(female) everytime she bangun or tersedar...one eye saja buka...then

later on baru one more, i check..the eye nothing wrong....no tahi mata or

anything. ..is that normal?

KP

i read the article bout male biting female during their mating from :

http://www.suzsugargliders.com/breedingsugargliders.htm

hun,

check the site..whether is it okay for reference or not..i think ok..

short answers and lots of answers can be found there...

http://www.suzsugargliders.com/
*

Hmm, if no taik mata and such, should be fine I think... When I come across taik mata, I will usually help remove it and my suggies normally understands my finger trying to poke their eyes laugh.gif

Hmm, the site is fine, but I have never came across that concern of breeding anywhere else... Could be the gliders she refers to are wild??

Mine has never had that experience although my Iggy is some sort of a hansap with Luna all the time tongue.gif

And now, he will put up a lazy pose and the white tummy every night.

Arghhhh! How you do it???

I wanna do it too! But my suggies won't sit still especially not lying on their back sad.gif

No choice lar, you need to give mealworms cuz it protein. Just mix and fruits won't work that much.

Give lar mealworms, within a week, you'll see the diff!

wink.gif

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Dec 15 2007, 10:37 PM)
Hmm, i just wonder 1 thing, nowadays feel Ah Pit's poo poo become soft already, sometime feed watermelon, papaya also like that, but now like become softer than last time....

Need to check for few day is it like that, are you guys sugar glider got happen like this before ?
*

Check the list of fruits and remarks on the first page. Feeding watermelon and papaya, that is the result.

Try alternating with hard ones like apples and pears.

You give them watery and soft fruits, you'll get watery and soft poo.

QUOTE(buttercup07 @ Dec 16 2007, 07:38 AM)

QUOTE(Reanne @ Dec 17 2007, 12:03 AM)
10 to 15 mealworms a day. Feed the mealies until they're fat.

10-15 mealworms a day... (or up to 20 a day like me tongue.gif)

Check the list of fruits and remarks on the first page as a guide.

If it's a little watery and when you feed other fruits it stops, thats fine. If it prolongs to 1 or 2 days even after switching, then it's a problem...

What they poo is what they eat, so watch their diet and things should be fine smile.gif

Watermelon = Red Poo === Normal ley...

-----

Sugar gliders are resilient creatures, they don't normally get sick easy if you watch their diet properly and follow the proper hygine care. So far the only trip I made to the vet is for neutering Iggy, not because any of them got sick or what...

However it is such a different case with some other animals, for instance my cat, getting good food, proper hygine and cleaning, grooming and bathing has been to the vet 3 times (almost every 2 weeks) twice because he's sick... doh.gif doh.gif

Waaa, headache ooo... My gliders lagi strong worrr flex.gif

Hun... I'm thinking of setting up a sugar glider fund... hmm.gif The main purpose is to help promote neutering... Can't think of any other reason, but I seriously wanna do something to help promote neutering and help curb excessive sugar glider breeding...

It's very hard to speak to Dr. Yeoh, but left a word and message to his assistant... She said he can't afford to offer special discounts as exotic pets meds are more costly and the surgery is more tedious on small animals... Every care and attention needs to be taken care of...

Anyway, she did say I am still free to discuss again with Dr. Yeoh IF I am able to catch him while he is not busy...

Sighhh... I dunno how else to help lar...

It can last provided you keep in a cage than a container.... and you gotta feed the crickets veggie everyday.

I'll be back after Christmas tongue.gif

QUOTE(nebcrys @ Dec 17 2007, 12:49 AM)
if i mix a little bit of apple cider vinegar with their drinking water is it okay??
some sites that ive read said that it is actually good because it boost the gliders immune system..
think its alright?
*
You only do that say once a week..... coz apple cider vinegar is acidic since.... it is vinegar hahaah....

If you feed watermelon, papaya, mango.... the poo would be very soft.... but it should never be watery all the time. Sometimes if poo solid first, then suddenly watery, means that is a forced poop, meaning the poop that comes out when the glider or any animal is scared....

Diarrhea is smelly, very watery, and the glider would be lethargic from dehydration.

I advocate this idea of setting up a suggies fund, it can be for any purpose for the suggies community, which is WE OURSELVES will benefit, as well as suggies.
If every suggies owner is willing to contribute RM 20 for example, that will amount to RM 100 when 5 or 6 contributed that amount.
But as far as involving the issue of money, there must be transparency, eg we need to know where the money has gone to and the balance of the fund. A financial statement/report is needed to inform the public, yearly, the least.
And whoever has a need can make an appeal to the committee to use the fund. And we also need to appoint a treasurer as well.
Another important thing is, we need to first seek the approval and registration with the authorised government organisation. We cannot have illegal fund raising.
What are the methods of collecting fund? And ways of $$ transfer.

Hmm... Neutering funds.... Kinda hard, as like you said, they are small animals. Dogs and cats are easier as they can take general anaesthesia. Now we're looking for another way to neuter gliders, needs time though.

Don't forget to feed the crickets a source of protein like cat/dog food (The good brands only please.) Or they will end up eating each other. The Innova Evo canned dog food is not bad, tried it before, the crickets loved them and so did my dogs. biggrin.gif

Feed high calcium and vitamin c veggies too.

For the cat/dog food, is it the mushy meaty type, which usually are the canned ones, or the hard pellet/biscuit type?
I would like to try this. I wonder will the crickets eat the crushed and mixed with water cat/dog biscuit?
Which vege is high calcium? Do you mean vege mixed with calcium powder?
Can crushed vitamin C be sprinkled to their diet?
