Need some help about Geforce 8800 gts and Geforce 8800 gtx.

What's the performance difference between the two and can a 430 watt thermaltake power supply support a geforce 8800 gtx.

Thanks in advance for anybody's help.

Much appreciated.

Thanks to both of you who promptly answer my query.

Sorry to bother but would like a recommendation on either

8800 GTS 640 mb and 8800 GTX 768 mb. I will be upgrading from a Geforce 7800 GTX

I only have a 430 watt Thermaltake power supply.

I am using a 19inch LCD Samsung monitor (Non widescreen)

Most likely will be playing games at 1280x1024 resolutions.

I love to turn on both AA to x4 and AF to x16 in most games.

Also is there any 3rd party heatsink to recommend for either of those GPUs?

My current rig configuration are as follows:

AMD Athlon X2 4400 Dual core
Asus Nforce 4 motherboard
Sound Blaster X-fi extreme music
4 GB DDR400 Ram
2x 250 GB Seagate 7200 rpm HDD
Pioneer DVD-writer
Lite-on CD Writer
Zalman 9500LED
Leadtek Geforce 7800 gtx + artic cooling silencer
Leadtek TV-Card
Coolermaster Praeterion
Thermaltake Toughpower 430 watt (Now i regret not getting the 450watt or 500 watt)

Thanks a bunch.

You guys have been really helpful.

If you're not planning to upgrade your monitor to something larger, the gts should be able to fulfill most of your requirements, where you still can save up some cash to get a higher watt psu.

U shud try Bioshock. It pushes the X2 all the way to 100% on both cores ALL the time. Scary stuff. My GTX SLi rig was lagging because of that. That's y I upgraded to the Q6600 so I can play Bioshock properly.

Well, the GTX SLi can handle the game, it's just that the CPU cudn cope with Bioshock. It was on 100% utilisation ALL the time. I had to turn off all background stuff like msn, antivirus n all that to cope. It's very troublesome to do that everytime I wanna play the game so easiest way was just to upgrade to quad core so my 2x GTX can really stretch it's legs. laugh.gif

bro ianho,
how many % using Qcore while gaming bioshock?

todays games very heavy.. i must agree that latest games require highend cpu and gpu mem above 512mb...
not like before by everage 3ghz cpu just more than enough..
future upgrade really need to spend alot..

todays gaming need to think about cpu also not just bothering about gpu..
after that ram also will take part..2gb no longer sufficient..

I am having the same issues for my FX-62. I think the CPU is on bottleneck when running the latest games such as Bioshock and World in Conflict. With DX10, I have to close MSN and YM in order to make sure that there is no lagging during the runtime.

I think it is better to prepare for Quad Core for future games because it seems the trend for more CPU demand already begin.

I can see from my G15 keyboard's LCD that it goes all the way to a max of about 70% all cores. That's with my msn, antivirus n everything still on. No need to go switch everything off b4 gaming now. biggrin.gif Everything is nice n smooth in Bioshock now. I'm getting constant 60-70 FPS at 2560x1600, High gfx option, darker scenes it even goes to about 100FPS. I can play Bioshock properly at last. Now can actually aim for the heads. Previously with the X2 the frames were so bad I had to just aim at the chest coz of the lag.

Sure lag lor. Coz my X2 was running at 2.7ghz which is about same speed as the FX62. That's y he's having the same prob I had in having to turn off all the background stuff b4 playing Bioshock. It's time for Karom to go to his storeroom n dig out a nice fat mobo n quad core for himself. brows.gif

still a lot of bugs and a bit outdated on the shader for nvidia nvapi

it will revert back to the stock ratio and do a multiple instead of reading the actualy shader clocks..

therefore this program has a lot more to develope until it can prove as a validation tool

Intel Core 2 Duo 4400 2.0Ghz
2x1gb patriot ddr800 ram
Gigabyte 8800GTS 320mb
19 inch samsung monitor
What a dissapointment, spend around 1k++ on my 8800GTS and even when i put everything to low it's still lagging like shit,if i knew this would happen i would have save a little bit longer and get a GTX..really regreted getting it...just advice for those out there who's planning to get an 8800GTS to play games such as Lost planet and Bioshock..

Coz ur gaming at a very low resolution of 1280x1024, it's very important to get ur CPU speed up sumore. U running at 2.0ghz that's y. U need to OC the CPU to about 2.8-3.0ghz.
