crap.....guess NVIDIA knows their 9 series are utter crap so they decide to kill the previous series...

theyre turning into another Creative Labs.

i even tried checking out the latest 9 series driver release notes. did a search for "8800" and none found.

oh well...whatever laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

ive decided that ill be waiting for 10 series now...most likely not gonna bother with 9 series as its not worth the money..... yet
*
yea agree , not worth the money , gx2 and GTX are based on G92 GTS ... regret ..

guys..just got a 8800gts 320mb yesterday and its temp is a little scary to me..never used a high end (ok maybe not so high end) card before..it was idling at 70°C..load at about 80-83..so i turned up the fan speed to 100%..is this ok?..its keeping the idle temp down to 63°C..but just wondering if there's any downside to keeping the speed at 100%..there's not much noise, so i don't care about that..just any other side effects?

Your temps are indeed pretty high. I have a 8800GTS 320MB too and my idle temps are 56C (54C at best) with the fan speed dialed down to 80% with RivaTuner. Hottest temp i ever noticed was slightly over 70C during gaming, with fanspeed at 100%.

I have 2 extra 80mm's salvaged from my old Icute casing blowing at my card tho, but i've checked, only 2~3C difference without it.

What casing are you using?

just a normal generic casing..92mm lower n 120mm upper intake fans..previously was using a 7600gt..more or less the same temps as ur 88gts..expected this 88gts temp to be higher but not this high..will try putting a 80mm fan under the gc..

my temps are the same with fan speed at 6-%... so its normal la...

mainly depends on the airflow of ur case as well as how effectively u exhaust out the hot air from the case.

check with guru3d. the only difference in the new driver is that 9series receive the WHQL status while the 8series still in beta. its the same driver though
I LOL'ed.
Try installing 174.74 WHQL driver on a system that uses 8800 series, let's see either you can actually install it or not.

You can only use the 174.74 BETA driver on 8800 series. Not the 174.74 WHQL.

hi, my friend had an Asus manufactured 8500GT 256MB DDR3 @ 128bit. before this he was using the 158 drivers. recently i asked him to update his driver to the latest one which is the 175.19 driver.
thats when the prob starts. the heatsink fan will stop spinning everytime he's logged on to windows. we tried to manually configure the fan speed to 100% which only works for a moment. whenever any 3D application was run, the fan will stop again. we tried changing it back to 158 driver again and everything was fine again. tried updating it to 175 and the fan will stop again. 158 fine; 175 stop, 158 fine.

but 158 drivers are old and had problems with the graphics of some games.

is there anyway to solve this or has anyone encountered this same situation before?

thanks.

okay will try, but i noticed(tried this alot of times too) that the fan will stop when it was at the windows xp loading screen. so by the time its logged on to windows it'll get too hot and BSOD before any manual fan controlling software could start. but yep i will try again. thanks.

try getting a better cooling hsf. or it could be due to the limitations of the chips on your gpu. just my 2 cents. im not pro. XD

The minimum recommended PSU is a 400w with 26A on the 12v rail....

Not to say that you can't run it, but you might encounter problems..... wink.gif

You may or may not get problems e.g. BSOD, artifacts, random hangs and worst of all, damage to your rig.....

Some people actually ran their cards below the recommended requirements without any problems...

However, you might be stressing your PSU too much.... take a look at my PSU guide and you'll understand what I mean (especially on tips to buying a PSU...) wink.gif

yeah i know there are risks, and i tried running a 9600gt with this psu. from what i know 9600gt requires less power than 8800gt. definately gonna get a 550w true power psu, but at the meantime i might need to stick to this psu first..
