Actually, im considering new bike as well, just out of budget. either targeting new trifolds, > RM2.5, or used bike RM1.5 or below. cant decide.

QUOTE(KINTREX @ Apr 10 2022, 09:59 PM) didnt use it. but had tried it. smooth and best, but i dont think its worth the money for santai ride, unless ur on a race QUOTE(cschuang @ Apr 11 2022, 02:26 PM) hi Sir, actually m considering an used Oyama trifold with 3 speed internal hub. haven pull the trigger yet. in dilemma due to 'limited' speed, afraid it will be 'backward' from my XDS AFB320 (16 speed). trifold are not meant for long journey. there is some, but not all can do it if u dont have big courage. If i ever pulled the trigger and in future discover difficulties to 'climbing hill', add the crankset, adding to double will make it 3 x 2 speed, just like the pikes (6 speeds) rite? Cheers. setup the double crank are the easiest way for trifold to gain extra gearing. i had setup my friend 3sixty bike (3 speed) with shimano 105 52/36 crankset without a fd. he said more than enough gearing compare to pikes 3x2 setup.its only a matter for u to adopt with the bike later. QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Apr 11 2022, 03:20 PM) bingo! well said, but pikes used price are not cheap either and a new one kind of hard to find in some place.consider our friend here wanted to buy a used bike, pikes are out of his budget. thanks for all input. really appreciate it and learning at the same time.
Any user's feedback on Trinx Flybird 2.0? 2x8 speed, same as my XDS, but light weight around 10kg+-. Used unit at RM1k. ...2 (42T & 52T) x 8 (11T-25T) speed consider more than enough for leisure ride rite? if wanna improve the 'climbing', change cog to higher eg 32T? or to gain better speed, change to higher chainring eg 56T? Sorry for the noob questions. if a bike is standard specs, what are main and immediate 'upgrades' to consider; wheelset (rim & hub), crankset, tyre, and follow by light weight accessories eg seatpost, handle, pedals,... |

Happy for now. my XDS AFB320 wheelset (stock, with Quandro sealed hub) is 406. cassette is 11T-28T. May can swap some items... besides more tyre options, why 406 is preferred? better in which area? |

For 1X single chainring setup, how to achieve both close ratio and wide range gearing?
the easiest way of course is to adopt 11-speed setup like 11-32T, then you will have 11-12-13-15-17-19-21-23-25-28-32T. but what if you are in 9-speed setup? if you use 11-32T, then your ratio would be 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32T, then you are missing 12 and 14T. 1T difference in small cog makes bigger speed difference than 1T difference in big cog above 19T. not to mention your cadence higher on flat and that will make the speed gap larger and cadence lower on climb and that will make the speed gap smaller. let me show you the calculations based on 349 wheelset on 54T chainring and 406 wheelset on 48T chainring: ![]() at 80rpm cadence, 12T jump to 11T there will be 2.55km/h difference while 13T jump to 11T there will be 4.71km/h difference. at 80rpm cadence, 14T jump to 13T there will be 1.85km/h difference while 15T jump to 13T there will be 3.46km/h difference. any gap larger than 4km/h will be very noticeable. then how to fill in this 12T gap while you still want to use 11-32T 9-speed setup? you can learn from bro azam that combine 2 set of cassette. at 80rpm cadence, 28T jump to 24T there will be 2km/h difference while 32T jump to 24T there will be 3.51km/h difference. at 80rpm cadence, 24T jump to 21T there will be 2km/h difference while 24T jump to 19T there will be 3.69km/h difference. you can combine 11-32T with 11-23T and form 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-23-28T or 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-24-28T or 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-24-32T or 11-12-13-15-17-19-23-28-32T or 11-12-13-15-17-19-24-28-32T. *25 May 2022 updated: optimized gear ratio with 28T for those who don't like big jump from 24T to 32T* this is same theory like how shimano introduce their megarange freewheel/cassette during 7 and 8 speed. this is how 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-24-32T looks like: ![]() this is how 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-23-28T looks like: ![]() p/s: not all brand cassette are combine-able, some you might need to drill the rivet screw off or break the spacer to have space to dremel the rivet screw.
