What's wrong with R7?
I own the model since 2006, so far I don't see any problem. |

QUOTE(Joker339 @ Feb 29 2008, 03:36 PM) Sony is clearly higher priced than some of the others, but do note that same LCD factory and even same EXACT PANEL does not mean that results are the same. Well, even Sony has the same panel as Samsung as in the case of S-PVA panel, Sony got better reviews as it has a better image processing engine, their Wega is still Sony's brainchild whereas Samsung has their own DNIE engine, the end result is clearly different. No doubt, Sony's LCDs are way overpriced but at least you're getting a high quality product from them, Toshiba, Sharp and Panasonic (except for the 700 series) are still not in the same league as Sony. There are talks that Sony will be using Sharp panels pretty soon in their next line up but it's nothing surprising actually. Like Dell monitors, you don't expect Dell to make their own panels, right? It's the same for other brands, it's either a make or buy decision but then Sony has reduced the prices of their panels, the difference is just a few hundred more than competing brands. The electronics that drive the panel do make a difference. Having said that - I'm not here to claim Sony electronics better - just pointing out that same panel does not mean everything will be the same. In terms of 100hz/120hz - It's something that you have to do some detailed viewing to see if you notice (which most likely you will!! haha) - but of course - it is ANOTHER feature to consider and not the be all and end all. If motion smearing/resolution is a problem to you - plasma is the way to go. If not - go for the LCD. W series looks very tempting actually - but don't forget to check out the Sharp 100hz 1080p screens. Should be in that price range as well. |

QUOTE(Darth Maut @ Feb 29 2008, 03:24 PM) Yello! How much you got it for bro? andmind telling me the place and warantty package?i was also torn between those two... but in the end i bought Sony 32D300A because for Sony, a lot of things can be manually configured (e.g the 100Hz can be set to Off, Standard or High, and you change the backlight settings..where as for Panasonic the 100Hz is permanently on and you cannot change the backlight).. But of course, if you're the kind who just wanna watch tv/dvd as it is then you dont need all these configurations control la.. Also for Sony, you can have different configurations for different input .. i.e different settings for DVD, PS3, Astro etc.. Another reason i bought Sony is that after discounts, the sony ended up being RM100 cheaper than the Panasonic.. cheers Darth Maut |

ya very sad news - but still okay, they will still make 50inches and above. I think for those that can afford to spend top dollars, they will buy the 50inches anyway
TOKYO (Reuters) - Pioneer Corp will stop making 42-inch plasma panels and instead buy panels in that size and smaller from Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial or Hitachi Ltd to turn around its loss-making flat TV business, the Asahi newspaper said. Japanese consumer and auto electronics maker Pioneer will end output of such panels at a plant in Kagoshima prefecture in southern Japan as early as by March 2009, the paper said in the report on Saturday. It will focus on making panels 50 inches or larger at other plants, the Asahi said. It would be Pioneer's latest step away from a vertically integrated business model, in which manufacturers conduct production of key parts as well as assembly of finished products, after its decision last year to buy liquid crystal display panels from Sharp Corp to start offering LCD TVs. Pioneer's plasma business has been struggling to compete with larger rivals with better production efficiency such as Matsushita and LG Electronics Inc Pioneer has a target to sell 480,000 plasma TVs in this business year, ending on March 31, less than one-tenth of Matsushita's sales target of 5 million units. Pioneer bought the Kagoshima plant from NEC Corp and now wants NEC to buy it back, the Asahi said. A Pioneer spokesman said its flat TV strategy will become available when it unveils a mid-term business plan in early March, but nothing specific has been decided. Shares in Pioneer were up 3.8 percent by early afternoon, outperforming the Tokyo stock market's electrical machinery index IELEC, which rose 2.2 percent. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but an LCD TV isn't really a PC hardware...
Here's the story, I want a 32" LCD TV to hook up to my PC. Since PC monitors don't go up to 32", my other option is the TV. It's too bad TV's resolution isn't as high as PC LCD monitors, so I'm left with 768 or 1080p (if affordable). So my question is, what are the 32" LCD TV options available with fast response time? I'm stuck with 32", can't go bigger because I can't sit too far away, need to reach the keyboard. For PC gaming, I will need the fastest response time possible. I'm a newbie in this area, just noticed this new 100hz technology, will that help? Also, which is better, D-Sub (VGA) or component? These are my only options, as my video card doesn't have HDMI. Or, if the TV has DVI, that would work too. Thanks! |

The one that I read (I think from cnbc and cnnmoney) is that they will pull out all together from making plasma panel, wether 42 or 50 or larger. they will instead buy the panel from matsushita (panasonic) instead. Try look in avs forum.TOKYO (Reuters) - Pioneer Corp will stop making 42-inch plasma panels and instead buy panels in that size and smaller from Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial or Hitachi Ltd to turn around its loss-making flat TV business, the Asahi newspaper said. Not surprising that Pioneer is making loss.
Although it has one of the best (if not the best) PQ in flat panel display market, the price is major turn-off point. Hope that by sourcing from the other 2 giants, it could drive the price down without compromising its PQ. |
