for guitar, i have to use a pick 95% of the time tongue.gif
for bass i can do both but usually if i use a pick it'll be mostly downstrokes so that i get a nice even, consistent tone thumbup.gif

wah....like dead nih this thread besidesthe last 2 posts.

anyways on the same subject started 2 months ago...hehe
most of the time i use fingers coz its more appropriate, i use pick when the song calls for it, punk rock or heavy rock. for punk rock its coz the bass most probably will be holding the rhythm of the song, the guitars will be pumping palm mute, so it has to stand out, the pick helps.
For really heavy rock, the guitars r on real high gain distortion so the pick helps the bass stand out.

but i dun play so often lar those genre, most of the time alternative rock n songs in church so use fingers.

reviving this thread after u saw wat i ask in the guitar thread?  laugh.gif

Added on September 9, 2008, 6:02 pmplaying bass with a pick, it will make the bass sounds sharper, ppl might think that it is the bass playing the leads..
what if u dun have a pick with u? having experience playing with finger should b better for bass, not like guitar, it'll swelled or even ate my nails ,lol.. i use a pick for a guitar..

Ya, just helping you out. smile.gif

I use both, some songs need pick and some do not. It is depends on the song. There is a different tone on every one.

somebody said some time ago that the slapping motion was like trying to flick chewing gum off your thumb. Try it
