finally, here SG they keep maintain the price for so long (2TB $260 , 4TB >499 for 3 years), they probably realise shit wont sells and warehouse/store are full of unsold SSD lol

right, it's ok for your usage. the issue is not qlc. i had bad experience with dram-less ssds. the whole incident was like paying money for sufferring. the difference in price couldn't compensate time wasted to fix everything.

to be fair, that previous experience was most likely due to wrong use case. however, to avoid potential problems, and to make myself happier, i just stick to ssds with dram. hence, 3d-tlc + dram >>> qlc + hbm in this case hehe

edit: that's one of my very rare sad moments related to ssd. after all these years, i believe things have improved. however, the phobia is real lol!
*
yeah, i had phobia for dead HDD too, hence i wont even dare to touch Seagate HDD lol

i haven't really tried dram-less SSD.
i could just stick with 870 QVO since it still have dram, and price is same as those dram-less SSD

officially Samsung cutting the price now https://www.samsung.com/sg/memory-storage/s...tb-mz-77q8t0bw/
damn, raid 0 on 4 of these drive gonna be fun

Wow, this is too good to be true, there has to be some catch to this right lol.

It's TLC, and has DRAM for only 899?

TBW endurance is also decent at 2240 TBW for 4 TB.

EDIT:- One review on Amazon says it's basically the same internals as the Crucial MX500 4TB drive. Wow, makes me a bit more confident to buy now.

right, it's bumpy in our personal computing journeys. i had various incidents of bad hdds as well haha

each storage type has own strengths and weaknesses. luckily, we can leverage their advantages to complement one another so as to minimize risks. also, simple practices like regular backups really help a lot.

dram-less ssd has its place tbh, e.g., for casual home use, at least good to replace hdd as boot drive. but then, like you said, other options with dram have the same price tags. that actually means dram-less ssds are relatively more expensive imo.

i think this bug affects more than that. i have read user comments that stated the os boot time became longer than two minutes. this is just bad. who would have guessed that after so many years, when we are already used to under 30-sec boot (even with sata ssds), we are back again to the era of hdd boot time.

Just a heads up, for those interested the 4TB SATA SSD linked the other day, thanks to the 9 for 90 bonus promo on Lazada (part of the 7.7 sales) and using the Free Shipping Voucher, the effective price of the SSD is now just RM 817.90

You have to use the Lazada mobile app to get the bonus to apply properly.

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/transcen...8012236229.html?

I just bought it myself, couldn't resist lol.

bit the bullet again. I've decided to trust samsung once more. simply because I can't forgive myself passing on this dirt cheap price for a 2TB PCIe4. guess I'll regret later.
