Those that buying this new Macbook M1, from which year's macbook you upgrading from? Mine is 2012 Pro but still running well.

Replacing my current 2019 Macbook Pro 16 with i9 to the Pro M1.

The 16 inch is such a pain to bring out, like carrying weights around you.

Do you think is it worth to get 16gb ram on MBA?

I'm using for working and sometimes might open 20-30 tabs . But no gaming and etc. Mostly MS office, zoom, Skype, teams

this 2 youtube might help you to decide.. for ur usage i would say 8gb should be enough.. but if you have extra budget, just go upgrade..

I bought 256gb version as I subscribe to icloud 2tb. So space is not an issue.

Hey guys. It's day 3 of me using my MBA M1 8GB/256GB. A few quirks

1. I can't drive my 144hz monitor. It runs at 60hz. Still trying out multiple different cables. Tried terminal commands, and they all don't work, so that's annoying. If anyone has better luck, do give a shout.

2. No matter if I'm on my MBA 8GB RAM or MBP 16GB RAM, it still eats into my SSD SWAP. There's no noticeable difference in smoothness on my daily use. Some have said that because the SSDs on these Macs are so fast anyway, the computer eats into the SSD swap regardless of whether there is enough RAM or not, as contingency.

3. Opening my usual apps;

- thinkorswim
- safari
- discord
- Davinci pro
- QuickTime to record my screen

on both my 8gb and 16gb laptops make no difference in how it feels. It's not because the 16GB isn't smoother. It's because the 8GB isn't at all laggy with all this. While I'm also a strict single Safari page user and no more than 5 tabs, I had my sister use it and she's a multiple browser and has nearly 30 tabs open.

No issues on her side with the 8GB either.

If you're set on getting 16GB, because you know you'll need it, all power to you. IF you're on the fence, I think 8GB might be surprisingly sufficient if your workflow's like mine.

Oh and get used to hearing "phantom" fan noises. I keep thinking I hear my MBA ramp up the fan because that's all the Intel Macs would do. But nope, no fan installed so no fan noise.

You’ll need hdmi connection on both end in able to activate the 144hz refresh rate. In another word, mba with hdmi connecting to a dongle linking to hdmi port on your external monitor.

Thanks for the inputs. I was somehow regret not upgrading to 16gb ram but your post means I made right decision. I wanted to upgrade but delivery will be after christmas or next year while without upgrade I would get it on 21-23 Dec.

I’m getting 8gb as well. I plan to upgrade to the new 14” mini led next year for better yet battery life. Remember, M1 will be the worst and slowest laptop cpu made by apple. Hence sticking with the basic model for now.

Hey guys what do you think abt the delivery times ya? Initially I thought i’d be okay with delivery between 30/12 and 7/1 but i grew a bit more impatient and a bit of anxious when I read on the internet their order got pushed back.

Then we might or might not receive our Macs on time.

Either iCloud or external SSD works fine too.

Don’t worry too much on space, you have alot of alternatives.
