almost all isp are about same level.. personally i feel very bad experience on TM especially their international routes.

depend what usage you on the location and does the ISP have good latency to your location you want.

Celcom's upstream providers mix not bad!

user posted image

Got China Mobile in the mix, got NTT America, got GTT Communications with TIME dotCom in the mix.

It has the best balance of all worlds. Great for China connectivity if you stream/download a lot from there.
Got GTT for Europe connectivity, Got NTT for US/Asia links, TIME for SG/local access.

Best router offer too TP-Link AX10 Wifi 6 router and fair early termination policy of one time RM500.

Torrent and private IP not much of a serious issue if you're not installing cloud based CCTV at home. There's already VPNs to bypass those restrictions.

celcom have china mobile as upstream only to china mobile routing network only if going to china unicom or china cn2 all via back NTT

china bandwidth is most expensive in the world and most of the provider wouldn't provide much bandwidth on it.

Upstream means wholesale bandwidth providers which sells to you. Downstream are smaller ISPs which buys bandwidth from you downline.

Anyways Celcom is the only major ISP in Malaysia to have direct peering with China Mobile.

It accomplishes what Maxis has failed. Having good access into China while a mix of GTT, TIME dotCom, Cogent and NTT diversified peers gives it a great advantage to cover all major regions such as Europe, USA and Asia.

What about Borneo states, are there any differences in peering

For Borneo states, the problem is the South China Sea Crossing challenge which you need to reach first before hitting elsewhere in the world. Singapore is always the main exchange point before your packets are sent either East(USA) or West(Europe).

Celcom's Symmetrical 30M plan is also the CHEAPEST among all TM HSBB retail ISPs.

Only RM80 per month plus 6% SST = ~RM85

This is the closest you can get with competitors with own infra such as Allo which sells its symmetrical 50M for only RM79?

I read Sarawak has setup its own ISP to provide broadband to rural area. Any idea how it works?

For Sarawak the case little special, if you want to bypass having to go through MY-SG, you can work with Telekom Brunei or the Borneo IX exchange they've setup.

For Sarawak, closest major city is Western Australian based? Perth based ISP?
Internode? ColoAU? Telstra Global?

from observation are

to Melbourne and Sydney server maxis/digi ping latency are in between 100ms and Celcom are average 110ms-120ms

maybe Candy12 can give you further info for maxis.

For Perth, Western Australia which is most ideal from Sarawak Borneo side, it's just under 60ms.

Once you hit Australia shores, going from Perth to Sydney/Melbourne will just be another 50ms+ coast to coast.
So expect around 95-105ms.

Australia's most advanced backbone is actually its research network AARNET. Doubt foreign commercial companies can host their servers on it or allowed to use them.

Just to add since just now I was in the hurry to take off for dinner.

The 60ms ping to Perth via Maxis I mentioned earlier is from Ipoh. It should vary if you're doing it from Borneo due to distances and cable length.

No matter how you want to see it, there's no other direct route from Borneo to Australia. If you want to reach Australia, the only closest major landing site is Perth, Western Australia via SINGAPORE.

There is NO direct hop from Borneo around Jawa to land on NT, Australia.

Most ISPs don't see any benefit connecting to Australia, there's very little content people want to access from there.

Axiata is building a direct cable across the South China Sea to connect Kuching directly with Singapore called BaSICS(Batam-Sarawak Internet Cable System) and only via Singapore you can reach Australia West side via Perth.Else you need to take a big round to the other side of Australia's East Coastal Cities.

Maxis optimized route to Australia is via ColoAU Perth:

Since all using TM's infra, in terms of customer service TM definitely win.
