I also want to consider switching soon. Maxis is getting bad these days.Very lousy European routes and expensive also. They also becoming very rude and unhelpful.

Early termination contract also now following TM's unscrupulous method of imposing full remaining months penalty.

Problem is DiGi peering arrangement is 45% TM, European link seems good with Telia and Cogent.
They also have NTT America among their top 5 upstream provider.

Which region server you usually connect to?

is this better than TM in terms of ping, speed and reliability?

digi fibre using unifi infra?

expect everything is the same

Ok because he said the peering is different.

Maybe i thought the ping and throughput for certain peering locations are different

For example when gaming with different friends, the ping is noticeably different to certain locations - sometimes maxis better ping, sometimes worse as compared to unifi

digi fiber heavily relay on TM network for international routes

maxis/celcom/Time are using their own ip transit provider for international routes and no links to TM at all.

Which is the best when comparing tm Digi maxis celcom

from my observation

maxis/celcom good for asia

celcom good for EU

celcom/maxis to US both are almost same.

digi are similiar to TM routing. but digi relay less on their ip transit they having so there not much different as TM.

Ok it's just that in maxis tered there is so many people unhappy with the fibre

Celcom's upstream providers mix not bad!

user posted image

Got China Mobile in the mix, got NTT America, got GTT Communications with TIME dotCom in the mix.

It has the best balance of all worlds. Great for China connectivity if you stream/download a lot from there.
Got GTT for Europe connectivity, Got NTT for US/Asia links, TIME for SG/local access.

Best router offer too TP-Link AX10 Wifi 6 router and fair early termination policy of one time RM500.

So celcom is the best (time not included)? Do they throttle torrent?

Torrent and private IP not much of a serious issue if you're not installing cloud based CCTV at home. There's already VPNs to bypass those restrictions.

Ok thanks I'll look into it

Upstream means wholesale bandwidth providers which sells to you. Downstream are smaller ISPs which buys bandwidth from you downline.

Anyways Celcom is the only major ISP in Malaysia to have direct peering with China Mobile.

It accomplishes what Maxis has failed. Having good access into China while a mix of GTT, TIME dotCom, Cogent and NTT diversified peers gives it a great advantage to cover all major regions such as Europe, USA and Asia.

What about Borneo states, are there any differences in peering

Celcom is not direct peering with China mobile.

Several location in US west coast also via China mobile the ping 220ms average using china mobile as upstream.

from observation are

to Melbourne and Sydney server maxis/digi ping latency are in between 100ms and Celcom are average 110ms-120ms

maybe Candy12 can give you further info for maxis.

For Perth, Western Australia which is most ideal from Sarawak Borneo side, it's just under 60ms.

Once you hit Australia shores, going from Perth to Sydney/Melbourne will just be another 50ms+ coast to coast.
So expect around 95-105ms.

Australia's most advanced backbone is actually its research network AARNET. Doubt foreign commercial companies can host their servers on it or allowed to use them.

ok thanks for the input and interesting info

then what about down time between isp?
and customer service

digi celcom tm maxis

Just to add since just now I was in the hurry to take off for dinner.

The 60ms ping to Perth via Maxis I mentioned earlier is from Ipoh. It should vary if you're doing it from Borneo due to distances and cable length.

No matter how you want to see it, there's no other direct route from Borneo to Australia. If you want to reach Australia, the only closest major landing site is Perth, Western Australia via SINGAPORE.

There is NO direct hop from Borneo around Jawa to land on NT, Australia.

Most ISPs don't see any benefit connecting to Australia, there's very little content people want to access from there.

Axiata is building a direct cable across the South China Sea to connect Kuching directly with Singapore called BaSICS(Batam-Sarawak Internet Cable System) and only via Singapore you can reach Australia West side via Perth.Else you need to take a big round to the other side of Australia's East Coastal Cities.

Maxis optimized route to Australia is via ColoAU Perth:

Cool map

When is the direct cable going to be finished?

Was supposed to be finished last year but perhaps hampered by covid because of travelling issues brought by mandatory quarantine in sarawak
