I think depend on models ... TX-SR805 and TX-SR875 should be high-end

Onkyo is a normal Japanese AV brand like Sony, Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha, etc...
Whether you consider it as budget, medium or high-end depend on how thick is your wallet...
Audiophiles who have Karma speaker, Valhalla cables, Dartzeel amp, etc, would consider Onkyo as budget brand.

Onkyo, Denon and Yamaha do produce wallet-busting AV receivers. Denon at one time produce a AVR that cost as much as a Saga.

If you have lots of moolah, then you might opt for processor/pwr amp combo such as Lexicon, NAD, and so forth. However, not many people will opt for it due to the extreme price tag meant for elites.

depends on the audiophile also, I consider those who are running their audiophile rig with 16bit 44.1kHz CD source (may cost 100k for all I know) but looking down at other "budget brands" as misguided bunch as well.. my 2 cents..

they should at least have 24bit/96KHz next gen audio setup like HD-DVD audios and Blu-rays.. rclxms.gif thumbup.gif brows.gif
