Does anyone here felt weird that Aurobay (Volvo + Geely Powertrain) has removed its 3cyl 1.5TGDi engine while it is no longer being offered by Volvo and surely being phased out by Geely but for Proton it is putting it in every foreseeable car possible including future ones.

Currently only Proton and Geely Philippines still offering the 1.5TGDi 3 cylinder X50/Coolray while all other Geely supplied country has updated to the 4 Cyl TGDi option including Geely Cambodia that sounds kinda sad.

not sure what you talking about.
this so called 'old 3cyl' not even old by the time it developed.
i think its same time with 4cyl counterpart.

upgrade from 'old 3cyl' now to 4cyl, mean proton need add another production line with parts (or asking oem)
they need to stock both 3cyl and 4cyl parts..i don think they will do it.

with third car 1.5tgdi all people yet see what proton stratergy to keep it simple, and tune it depend on segment?

now the next plan to introduce X80 to our market. If they die2 use 1.5T engine 3 cylinder here, then we know they intend to hold this engine until many years. The x80 by right use 2.0T engine 4 cylinders, so will see how Proton plan for this

I remember reading the X50 3cyl engine will be replaced. 4cyl will replace, but not clear if Malaysia will get this model.. The next Coolray is a facelift model with 4cyl engine. Dont have any engine details.

depend.
if proton using geely Hi-X 'thunder' hybrid engine. it still could be 3cyl 1.5T DMI hybrid.
thats really depend how proton 'implement'

Oh I see. I would actually prefer the 4 cyl. if the power out put is the same. At present my only concern on the 3cyl model is the engine roughness!

Not sure you did realise that the Volvo released the 1.5L 3Cyl TGDi engine since 2016 and used in the XC40 since 2017 which Geely claim their 1.5L 3CylTGDi shares 90% of the similarity. The 1.5L 4Cyl TGDi LiShen power was first used in the Geely Binyue (Coolray) in China back in 2022. (Note that this 1.5L 4Cyl TGDi has an output of 181hp / 290Nm with 5.7L/100km fuel consumption all way better compared to our 1.5L 3Cyl TGDi)

I am totally with you that there will be 0% Chance Proton will release the 4Cyl 1.5L TGDi anytime soon here which I supposed the next engine we may be getting is the Geely + Renault alliance which still far off.

doubt they will change back to 4 cylinders, money has already been invested hugely for the Tanjung Malim factory to take 3 cylinders production hub. at least another 3-5 years for ROI. Wonder they wanna invest more for 2.0T here. During the 1.5T introduction on X70, all Media keep on praising this engine better than 1.8T 4 cylinders wheres the 1.8T also cw latest tech like TGDI etc. Proton game to make sure all use 1.5T perhaps?

not discourage u from buying proton car, but lately many China brand come here on our region using 4 cylinder 1.5T, with massive more Hp and Torque. DCT as well.

Current raya promo is just 2k rebate + free power tailgate

Last year Dec got 8k cash rebate plus free power tailgate from proton, plus other free accessories from SA. The cash discount was to compensate for year end car depreciation.
