Since we are in the topic of Fuel Consumption, I managed to get my x50 to return 6.7L/100km or Approx. (15km/L) with almost 98% Eco Blue Mode at 8000+ total Millage.

Also this is 100% Klang Valley city drive although there quite some months working/driving during MCO.

Can I boast a bit. Yeah just to show that it is possible to achieve good fuel consumption but my driving style is a bit extreme as I drive along MRR2 there are many flyovers so while going on hill I slow down keep to max around 7-8L/100km but on downhill I'll drive without breaking and once I get the momentum u can actually achieve like 5.3-6.8L/100km with speeds of 110-120km/hr in the straights roads. Of course all is only achievable with extremely light footed.

My best fc is around 9.1l/100km.

At what mileage fc will start improving eh. Mine just around 1400km. 😅
*
Personally I did find fuel consumption improved quite a bit after like 4000km. However I did notice that fuel consumption was quite bad when I just gotten the car and pumping RON97 for a couple of weeks in April 2021 to join the Petronas Contest. Of course after that few weeks of RON97 now it is 100% on RON95.

Somewhat agreed that one just need to enjoy the drive despite looking at the FC since I believe this will be one of the very last ICE (Petrol heads) cars we will drive if we could keep the car for more than a decade before transitioning to Electric drive.

However I still believe FC is equally important as some of you mentioned that your fuel consumption is 2x of mine hence imagine if I pay RM3k annually for fuel the other person will have to fork up quite a bit in the long run.

And honestly I did like to know at what average speed you guys managed to achieve with that Normal/Power drive when I am not driving slow by any means as I am able to clock up to 47km/hr (average speed) with 98% Eco mode.

Referring to the screenshot you provided, every time you refuel the calculations for FC will be reset and recalculated again right?

Must one only refuel when the tank is empty or does the calculations also reset when half empty?
*
From my understanding only the "Range" will change immediately when you fill up and this will roughly depend on your FC of the week if you fill up weekly. However if you drive better you will see a slight increase in the Range or vise versa.

For the Average Fuel Consumption & Average Speed that will take a heck of a long time to change depending on your driving habits even if I try my very best to keep things constantly better the figure takes a lot of effort to change.

Personally I will not refuel only when it is empty as current TGDI engine is too sophisticated and requires high pressured fuel injection therefore leaving your fuel too low may be prone of misfiring logically. I am driving about 400km weekly and usually left about half or 3 Bars before filling up.

i use xioayi dashcam nia x2. front and back.

just sent for 10k kms service RM295, asked back the old air filter because only used for 3000kms and can be reused in the future.

fuel economy is 10.5l/100km premium. i'd reckon the difference is negligible because diff driving style, environment and road conditions
*
I also just completed my 10k KM service but was charged for RM380. The additional item are Nano Mist and Tyre Balancing & Alignment. Your service centre is so honest to completely follow the service maintenance guide online. I did check with them but they say Tyre Balancing & alignment should be done.

Recently I managed to improve my fuel economy to 6.6L/100km driving along Klang Valley. But as stated by your good self my driving style may not be suited to everyone.

Quite disingenuous, if 100% drive in city but using clear main roads with no traffic lights, sure can.

When people say "city drive", it means a lot of stop-start (jam, traffic lights etc). ZERO change you get anywhere close to 6.7L/100km in such a scenario.
*
Well to be fair I drive to work everyday even during MCO and I leave home around 6:55am and leave work sharp at 5pm daily. Typically there are in no way in Klang Valley drive is free of traffic and there are bound to be stop-start traffic in certain stretch of the road and this is true even during MCO period where Police road blocks are present for work.

What I am trying to imply is that one can achieve better fuel consumption if he is determined enough noting that the improved fuel consumption is not during MCO but after the economy has opened where there are many cars on the road.

"Their" engine was built without any contribution from them.

And it is not about confidence, it is about the unfair policy that you need to throw away perfect oil after 6 months so that they can make money. Otherwise you lose the warranty, that comes a little bit close to blackmail cool2.gif

Certainly I follow their rules during the 5 years warranty time and donate the money to them. But I have to admit that I did not realize that Proton has this mandatory 6 months interval when I ordered my X50. In other countries nobody would buy a car that you need to bring for service every 6 months instead of 12.
Thanks, I guess Mr Sandqvists answer does not leave any question open.

Or this RM 36.50 per liter super high end fully synthetic wonder oil from Proton / Petronas is worse than the cheapest mineral oil so it needed to be changed every few kilometers / months  brows.gif
*
The Engine oil provided by Proton X50 is a Shell branded 0W-20 grade oil (which I believe it's a similar Shell-HX8 type of oil but sold at a lowered price than RRP). However we need to note that our Proton Service maintenance book did mention the use of 5W-30 grade oil but since the Volvo XC40 T5 also uses a OW-20 here in Malaysia I supposed it will work for our engine too (also noting that Volvo Malaysia uses the Castrol Edge Professional 0W-20 oil of 5.6L vs our X50 Shell 0W-20 of 5L when Volvo's service interval is longer.

It is also good to know that the Geely Coolray sold in Philippines also states to use the 0W-20 grade oil at 10k intervals which have a similar weather to ours.

I have completed my 10k service which the oil has only run 9200km (considering I change a fresh new oil at 1000km) and noted that the oil changes from Golden colour to brownish with a few sediments and a reduction of approx. 0.5L of the total 5L oil. Personally after witnessing this which I drove lightly especially during MCO period, I will not keep the engine oil beyond the 10,000km mark anytime in the future unless one drive very less than it may be debatable.

Some owners in fb has updated Proton has changed the x50 engine oil from Shell 0w20 to now Petronas 5w30. Let's see in my next 20k service come Feb 2022.
*
Hmm, yes I did check it out that Proton did announce brand new Proton Genuine Oil back in Q4 2021 of 5W-30 grade in 5L bottle (which basically is for the 1.5T engine only).

I kinda enjoy using using the current Shell 0W-20 oil which I managed to achieve steady fuel consumption around 6.6-6.8L/100km including long distance drive (once best I was able to get 6.5L/100km). Like you my next service will be 20000km too but I can't say I am excited to use the new heavier grade oil which sold for the exact same price as the thinner oil which is usually more expensive. (but if the Shell 0W-20 is indeed the rebranded HX8 with specification of GF5, this new Petronas with a GF6A should be of a higher quality).

Well lets test it out for our new car and the judge but likely I will go back to the 0-20W after the warranty is over.

Yo guys, I just got my x50 flagship on Christmas Eve. Went up to penang for the new year week. Filled up full tank at Georgetown and after 5 days of city drive, tank was blinking. Is this normal? At about 20l/100km, it’s a lil bit too high no? I’m getting 250km max on a full tank of city drive (on eco mode) ????!!
Anybody else experiencing this? It’s crazy high yo.. I think can challenge F1 FC at this rate zzz

Your Current FC looks reasonable at 1st gear of 19.9L even at Eco Mode (as petrol cars are very inefficient at lower gears). You will need to get to 7th gear at 90-115km/hr on straights to achieve around 5.5L-6.8L/100km if you are light footed. Personally I did not experience any fuel improvement even when driving long distance hovering around 6.6L/100km. My current drive is around 6.6L-6.8L/100km (99% on eco mode) and usually for a full tank the trip computer shows me a total distance of around 650km-711km (max). Try learning by getting used to your car and how you could maximize your daily commute I am sure you could do better. (Also I did notice FC improvements after over 4000km mark)

By the way my car mileage at 4k today and I checked engine dipstick the fluid level is only at 5 bar,
In the manual full is at 11th Bar.

How high is your's?
*
It is normal, I also measured my engine oil dip stick after 1k service which showed 5-6bar and after 10k mileage the bar shows slightly less than 5bar.

Mine is showing only 3 level also after service with 5L of 5w-30 EO. According to manual:-

"Restart the engine and let it run at an idle speed for 3 minutes, and then shut down the engine. Wait for 10 minutes and inspect the engine oil level again; add appropriate engine oil if necessary."

Saw some of them mentioned have around 4 to 5 and even 6 some of them. I'm buying a 1L EO to top up myself. Very weird that my previous service the SC is using 0w-20 EO but now using 5w-30 EO. I think 0w-20 EO is much more expensive.

This is my dip stick before my 10k service and after service EO vol. Both using the 0-20W Shell oil. I find the new and after 10k oil is roughly the same around 5-6bar.

I'm wondering why Proton use 5L of EO only but Geely Coolray in Philippines using 5.6L. Yet Proton's SC not using standard quality of EO. Some use 0w-20 and some use 5w-30.

Maintenance comparison Proton and Geely Coolray
*
Well just to add that our Malaysian Volvo XC40 1.5TGDi engine is also using the approximate same vol. and 0W-20 as in the Philippines-Coolray. However I am not too overly concern about the new Petronas 5W-30 oil which is a GF-6A compliant when I am struggling to find any EO in the shell.com.my which have the same new compliant rating. Will test out the new oil soon but I will likely switch back to the 0W-20 EO of my choice after the warranty is over.

What concerns me is most is that some has posted above that the new 5W-30 EO dipstick measurement only have 3 bar instead of the 5 bar that I measured it after my fresh EO change which uses the OW-20. I do measure the EO (@30 min after drive) right after service, after 5k and at 10k before service and so far I have not encountered reduction as such. So the possible reason is that there may be leaks or the new Petronas EO did not fill up to the 5L as bottled. As highlighted in the dipstick 1 bar is the minimum EO required but then the lower EO meaning there could be more deposit built up in the EO in lower vol. and this may not clean the engine as well as possible.

With the SST exemption coming to an end soon, what will be the expected price hike for X50? Does anyone know?
*
We can based our assumption on the X70's 1.8 TGDi Executive which is roughly priced around the X50 Flagship which gets the RM5800 discount. So if everything stays true then the assumption for price increase of the X50 variants will be between RM4 - 6k.

Standard  sweat.gif  I'll check the engine tomorrow. Thanks! In any case if engine oil is low, what brand/model should I get?
*
The current EO supplied by SC is the Petronas 5W-30 (GF-6A) spec oil based on the x50 manual. Previously it was using the Shell 0W-20 EO which I am currently using at my last service on 30 Sept 2021.

I supposed it would be best if you could use the exact same EO supplied by SC. However if you would like to buy it from the big petroleum companies here in Malaysia, I only managed to find EO from Caltex with 5W-30 (GF-6A) spec while all other (ie. Shell, Petronas, BHP, Petron etc) either incompatible or still using the old GF5 spec oil as found from their website.

Dear X50 owners, I am also a bit shy to ask this but how do you pump air into the spare tyre and I honestly can't find the nozzle.

Hi sifus,

Anyone here experienced brake squealing/grinding yet? Car is 3 months old. Only occurs within the first 2-3 mins after starting the car when exiting parking on a ramp mostly.
*
Yes I do too in particularly of the back right tyre. I also started noticing it somewhere after 3 months or around 5000km. I did mention to my SC on my 10k service and they told me they have adjusted my brake' (well did not notice much changes the sound is still there). So on my 20k service I made the same complain and they said they have swapped the right to left brake pad (honestly it did work initially but after a while the sound is still there maybe a bit lesser). Honestly I would hope your case is different from mine or just my SC is quite hopeless.

have anyone repaired their front door handle sensor to lock/unlock?

my passenger side is working intermittently , went to SC and its working, come home not working, sometimes can; any idea of the problem?
*
My driver door handle sensor malfunctioned like 7 months after getting my car ie. (at most time unable to lock/unlock the car through the handle - this was also confirmed by the SC even after they done the software/whatever test resetting). SC went and order the spare parts and ask me to follow up with Proton HQ in total took 5 months to arrive and repaired early of this year.

However do take note that it is likely that your SC has not fixed the door handle before which the door handle "Spare Parts" arrived in its original black colour and SC asked me to leave the car another day so that can spray it according to your car colour (So do inform your SC beforehand and FORCE them to do it the same day). Since it has been changed it works fine like 99% of the time but then noticed the problem now passed to the front passenger side. Ask SC again during my next Saturday service and they said its a Saturday so they can't do any testing ask me come back during Weekdays.

I hope your case is not as serious and prevalent as mine.

doubt it will take another 3-4 years in order for the Geely Boyue Pro to come here. it get a brand new dashboard, AEB as x50? and cosmetic different exterior. 1 thing in common, Geely still make the 1.8T 300nm engine the flagship engine (Pro model still using 1.8T) and thinks it is. Only the Malaysian media give perception the 1.8T as an old engine and ready to obsolete, to give pictures of the 1.5T as a newer and replacement engine, when it is not at Geely
*
The 1.8T is indeed the older generation engine despite it having 4 cylinders & timing chain which is why Geely decided to call it day and retires the Boyue which is still underpinning an old Chasis instead of the BMA/CMA.

However, the Geely Boyue Pro as published by Paultan did have the 1.5TGDi same as the Geely Boyue Philippines with the mild hybrid configurations. Doubt the 1.8TGDi will have any more future here or elsewhere where Proton will just be implementing the 1.5TGDi Hybrid configurations next just like all other markets before us while most of the Geely Cars sold in China you hear of 1.5TGDi 4 cylinders, 3 cylinders Leishen and 2.0L TGDi. There are still 1L & 1.4L but I think those are far in between.

Well thought you were mentioning the Boyue Pro released back in 2019. Yeah the X did comes with the 1.8L also can be had with the 1.5L but I am also surprised by it since they are a very emission/environmental conscious country but guess they must really did hate the 3 cylinder engine.
