no airlines will cancel their flights(prematurely) unless the gov of the country do not reopen their borders

October a bit unlikely ba, no vaccine, no herd immunity, look at US and South America, still record number of new cases leh.

For one thing, the Japanese themselves are very discipline and there is certainly a need for tourist dollars given domestic tourism is not enough to substain the industry.

I'll be more than happy if you are right, but I really don't see leisure travel reopening within this year. Business / essential travel by Q4, Leisure travel in Q1 2021 is my guess.

I mean closer to home, even SG and MY we half brother country also no idea when my parents (in MY) will be able to come visit my baby (in SG) ...

I have read that the Japan's government is willing to give a lot of discounts to tourists who are willing to travel the country during the post pandemic period. I hope to be among the tourists who can avail the promos!

For the past couple of days, Japan had experienced a rise in their coronavirus cases again. A Japanese friend said it's hard to maintain social distancing in Japan with small offices and entertainment clubs, izakaya etc.

https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2020/07/...day-in-row.html

Hopefully the Japanese government will implement some sort of SOP in place. From the looks of it, the chances of reopening Japan as tourist spot (without visa application for Malaysians) for this year seems a little bleak.

I really feel sad for airlines in times like this.

An article from Financial Times on AA:

AirAsia/Tony Fernandes: stall story
