After so many years managed to booked winter Japan trip via apple!!!

1) Anyone here use TNG to pay at Japan before or mostly you all using credit card to pay?
2) How much hard cash in yen need to change before going there?
*
1) I guess most of the time you will be able to use CC. i live in the countryside, 80% of the time I use CC, 20% cash.
2) depends on a lot of factor, without more info, can't give a ballpark figure

Those street stalls confirm need cash right?
*
don't think I see much street stall to begin with, unless some morning market in Wajima or something laugh.gif
most tourist area have CC machine (e.g. random shop selling beef sushi on cracker in Takayama for take away)..since the OP is tourist following tour, a very high chance they won't detour out of those areas.

coz thinking to buy as souvenir/memento for friend just for shit and giggle lol

wondering will there be any issues going through customs both in japan and malaysia?
unable to google anything related to this
*
u can test your luck whether KLIA/KLIA2 kastam want to scan your bag on exit. if they don't check, yea, it's perfectly fine.

and JP side don't care about 18sx items going thru kastam

Not sure how much saving but already estimate daily around 5,000 yen per pax for breakfast lunch dinner with snacks in between.

Since you are in Japan for a few years already, how does one get drinking water except buying bottle waters at convenience store ?

I know there is refillable stations located throughout tokyo but have to go lookup each time and also got a water apps called MyMizu.
*
restaurant...refill water bottle icon_idea.gif might not be nice but oh well..

another place to get nice cold water would be shopping mall food court..there's free water station everywhere in the food court with paper cups

Understood. Thats what been bugging me as i usually chug 3 litre water everyday. Keep looking for refillable station, even there is refillable water station at subway metro where there is water tap below the water fountain 😅
*
tbh, eventhough I make monthly trips to my office in Tokyo, used the trains, subs, i never noticed any water fountain in the station. maybe i should search for it the next time i go laugh.gif

inb4, was suppose to travel down to tokyo today but last minute cancelled my trip due to the typhoon sad.gif

Just went back from Kansai region 30/8 - 10/9. Those who going in next 2-3 month, this what I can share;

- KIX airport now in renovation so the departure will only open 1 lane. Do come early if you have a peak time flight
- Indeed its super crowded. Those planned to go USJ, if you can afford to take express pass, take it. Otherwise, do ride with the most ride you like (eg mario or roller coaster flying which paid of the ticket)
- Tourist from PRC and Korea is takes more than 60-80% of the total visitor. ( only Kobe I felt macam local style, less tourist)
- Only tips I indeed really useful, come early to every tourist attraction you wan to visit, definitely worth it tongue.gif
*
didn't noticed this when I departed/arrived at KIX between 25/8 and 3/9..good info

definitely i haven't bought anything yet.

I'm also curious we can buy shinkansen tickets from Malaysia?  hmm.gif  Which website?

I always buy it only when i'm there.

so, 20 minutes not enough?  sad.gif I always carry two luggages for skiing stuff

can buy shinkensen ticket online, book early got discount but usually 1 month in advance only they start allow reservation. i always book from https://www.eki-net.com/personal/top/index
if you already have a physical suica card, u can directly link that shinkansen reservation to your card ID, then just scan the gate masuk..no need ticket at all, very convenient. cancel ticket/change reservation also easy, all done thru the website and cost 0 yen.

Did my virgin ski trip to Niseko, 6d5n (for 4 full days of ski'ing), verdict: Niseko is great, but the premium for convenience is extremely extremely high. Also lesson learned, 4-years old don't expect them to know how to ski in just a few days.

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFYfBnvx/

Obv if you don’t need ski in ski out hotel and can queue for dinners, costs will be quite a bit lower.
*
nice kah niseko? I haven't travel up there but saw the lift queues, it's insane.
this season, I mainly snowboard every weekend around Nagano/niigata and prefer those with less queue but shitty snow condition. previous seasons mainly around ishikawa/fukui/toyama

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Feb 14 2024, 08:56 PM)
Can but no needed. Booked Shinkansen tickets online are one of most dumbest thing in Earth.
Not necessary. Very less Japanese taking Bus to Kawaguchiko. Because most will be self driving from Tokyo, not far away plus Japanese prefer train.
Taking Express bus from Shinjuku Station are one of most inconvenience thing.

i always book my shinkansen ticket online whether business trip or personal sweat.gif i prefer everything on my phone plus eki-net can get discounted tickets if you book early

QUOTE(deodorant @ Feb 24 2024, 05:18 PM)
Actually the queues aren’t that much worse than any Honshu resorts, the worst was around 20mins at Annupuri gondola. Hirafu gondola was only 10mins tops after 9plus am (I didn’t try earlier cos needed to drop kid off ar ski school at 9am).

I heard that the super long queues are exceptions when there’s heavy winds and then the chair lifts on the top are closed, then only everyone LLST at the bottom.

I think that Niseko is grossly overrated for intermediates and below. You need to be confident in trees and powder (which vast majority of even advanced intermediate skiers aren’t) to justify the double (or more) cost over Honshu resorts, IMO.

Having said that — having 4 resorts linked together (at the top) gives a crazy amount of runs relative to any Honshu resort, but on the other hand the sheer crowd chops everything up to hell by early afternoon …
*
Even a 5 min queue would piss me off, I usually prefer zero queue laugh.gif

Wow, that sound amazing, I love tree runs. Trashed the groomed runs or the ungroomed ones? Some resort they have their lift/runs designed nicely, so usually beginner would jam up the other lifts and advanced queues are relatively super short.

Looking forward to the next winter season, gonna make a trip up and hopefully it’s worth the trip

Ehhhh.. I can't read japanese. Do you happen to know other websites that people use to book?
Thanks!
Wow can use TNG to make payment in Japan too?
*
Use the translate function to translate the entire page or phone translator app “camera” mode? That’s what I do because even though living here for 6+ years, 5 years old speak more/better Japanese than me laugh.gif

Also with eki-net, I can link my phone Suica IC number to the website, so everything is convenient.

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Feb 26 2024, 10:35 PM)
It was super cold at Jizo Sancho Station, not so bad on Juhyo Kogen Station. After spending my earlier 12 days at northern Hokkaido of Furano, Tomamu, Asahikawa, Wakkanai, and Abashiri, I was not too worried about the weather and low temperature around Tohoku areas like Mount Zao and boy was I wrong.  I was very well prepared with all the necessary winter gear but the coldest part of this trip I would say to be on Jizo Sancho Station on top of Mount Zao. I had to go indoors to the restaurant for a hot meal before coming out again for another round of Jizo Sancho Station.

There was a long queue at the base station with many tourists and even local Japanese on holiday. It was a great experience to view the snow monsters at Mount Zao which I think Japan lovers must try doing at least once. The snow there was good too for skiing. Snowfall and snow quality is comparable to the likes of Niseko but with longer, steeper and more challenging courses. biggrin.gif
*
That’s one sad looking snow monster laugh.gif

but can’t be helped, this year’s winter is terrible..the only time I had great powder this year was in Shiga kogen after it started puking snow again last week.

Went to Yokoteyama 2 days ago, highest ski resort in JP at 2307m
Powder at the top was incredible, but so damn cold n crazy wind..
even though I prepared for -15c condition, whole time shivering on the lifts.

QUOTE(Koranshita @ Mar 5 2024, 10:45 AM)
question on the IC card.
i will be spending more time in kansai area ( JR west)
So i should get ICOCA card instead of Suica?  Or i can get Suica and use for the whole Japan trip? Start from Narita, end with KIX
i wish to keep the card and use for the next trip also

https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html

doesn't matter, they are basically interoperable. I prefer Suica because I can just import it into my iPhone and just tap and reload with Apple Pay instead of carrying another card around n reloading at the machine
