Well with all due respect, there are big differences between CD19 and those others. They didn't cause whole countries to be at standstill, they didn't cause a worldwide pandemic. Right now, we're looking at a highly contagious disease which has no cure nor vaccine yet, something similarly of concern by medical community about super-resistant bacterias in hospitals getting out but now its a virus which is even worse. So concerns are valid.

Still on the other side of a coin, the world can't continue to standstill. We'd die of hunger before we get CD19. Meantime preventions like social distancing are the only solutions we have and unfortunately leisure travelling puts us at risk of not keeping safe. Hence IMO any unnecessary travelling should be put off unless there are guarantees of staying safe.

I believe Japan shares that same sentiments too which is why they haven't lifted foreign travelling ban as yet. I read Okinawa recorded ZERO foreign tourist 1st time in their history. That is the sacrifice Japan is willing to make and that tells us how seriously bad is CD19.
*
actually all the previous viruses are equally contagious and still has no cure or vaccine until today(many are even deadlier than covid-19)
do u know why the others aren't as worse?...it's call containment
when the other viruses are discovered, the countries took quick action to contain it...thus it didn't get worse...it didn't spread far
why covid-19 got so worse?...because a "specific country" lied about it and tried to cover it up
it was already too late when they admitted to it, it was already all over the world due to CNY

and actually almost all country has zero foreign tourist, that includes taiwan, thailand, south korea(all free from covid-19)..all haven't open their borders yet, it's not just japan

Actually, its not totally Fake. It's just inaccurate. It only cover a portion of domestic travel expenses , not half.

“To speak accurately, the Go To Travel campaign is being considered by the Japanese government to revive domestic travel within Japan by providing Japanese residents support for costs associated with accommodation and travel,” reads the government statement (translated from Japanese) according to AFP.

You are correct but those benefit will be applicable if one (if you local or foreigner in japan) book locally (eg book within Japan via their tour agent/hotel directly). That from my understanding as they have very strong domestic travel (let just say they really embrace "Cuti2 Jepun")

Wow nice.. Hopefully everything will be back to normal after this pandemic is over. Though it is expected new norms will take over and many things will be different and many businesses will be closed by then.

but for japan, remember they intro that massive stimulus for domestic tourism?...it's protect these business by stimulate domestic spending
so when tourist came back, at least what they expect is still there

Well... that I wouldn't want to bring that into discussion here la. But you know I know la. One good example would be Thailand and how good the economy and Thai baht was doing previously, part of it due to their tourism sector.

Anyway, hopefully everything will still be in place in a year or so. Also hoping the Jap Yen would not appreciate so much as this will hurt tourism too.

every country rely on tourism as income source
just a matter of how heavy a country rely on tourism
japan and thailand really rely heavily on tourism...go to bangkok's Big C u can already tell the difference
u won't see such scene in malaysia

japan rely heavily on tourism as well when most tourist attraction are just packed all the time
and japan yen already appreciate back to it's "original" price already
which is RM40 = 1000 yen
now it's a little under only..it appreciate due to "olympic"
so expect the rate to maintain till next year

We aren't fully open yet. Still not the right time to reopen our domestic tourism industry yet as the focus should be getting our people back to work... whatever that still remains.

social distancing and SOP still apply but video never mention about roller coaster

our domestic tourism already reopen and is offering locals some attractive price/packages in order for us to support/maintain them
if domestic tourism isn't encouraged/maintained, there won't be "work" to go back to(for many people)....tourism industry is really really big...so big until almost everything is interconnected(even thing u never expected)
