I dont think there anything wrong with proton taking an existing model and make it as a new model. The persona is not just copy and paste job, it requires additional engineering on how to make the car drive more comfortable w/o losing some of the lotus dna, which is a signature for newer proton cars.
There are other world class car manufacturers did the same. Take volkswagen for iinstance. While the golf is the hatchback, the sedan version of the golf is called the Jetta, while the convertible version is called the EOS.
So i dont see anything wrong with proton putting a different name, furthermore the persona is more acceptable name rather than the horrendous gen2 name.
Guys, i not a proton fanboy, but i admit i am supporting the way Syed Zainal is doing for Proton. So guys dont bashing blindly and at least be constructive when giving out comments.

Yep, after all so much money has been invested in a platform, they can't afford just to throw everything away. In terms of exterior, actually Gen2 is very nice...looks like my old Kia Sephia in fact...

, it's only the interior which people complained about....and poor pick up at low end.
The Persona exterior looks nice enough and looks like most of the interior complains has been addressed.
From what was reported, next year BLM 1.3 (SAGA replacement) is also based on Savvy platform...i hope it's true...at least there'll be more parts to go around longer for Savvy owners (like me...ha-ha), and it'll have more economies of scale...common platform...more parts at lower price...consumer benefits. Simple.
P2 already has the advantage of a common platform with Daihatsu equivalent models/platform being sold worldwide.
P1 has to make use of re-using of existing developed platform for their cars. Can't afford to make a new platform for each car produced....Proton will sure die faster.
Anyway, IMO, looks is not very important to Malaysian buyers....otherwise why so many dino-SAGA, kancil etc are sold?? 3 main factors,(1) Price, (2) Cheap Maintenance (3) FC saving.
The Persona has hit factor 1, factor 2 should be ok since Gen-2 parts banyak available, but 3rd factor unknown yet.
If proton can hit all these factors AND they can keep a good quality and service record for the 1st year of this car, they'll have a serious contender for family car.....but I think Waja is not needed already....unless it's the new Waja with CPS or whatever.
