I read about the new Wolfdale E8400 and looks like they are good overclockers. SSE4, 6MB cache and most of all 45nm which helps give lower temps and consume lesser energy.

A comparison between E8400 VS E6850 says it all biggrin.gif I'm eyeing on this one for now. Well, I don't need the CPU power really but it's all about the fun of overclocking.

The quads would go cheaper sooner or later, it's a matter of time. Those Pennryn would be nice, lesser heat smile.gif

the current quads are quite capable of OC... I was able to reach 4106Mhz with my friend's q6600 while my e6600 maxed out at 3980Mhz... on air cooling...

well never said that current quaddies cant be OC-ed, in fact it can, but not all batches can give you low load temps, there are two batches of q6600, and both in fact have high TDP(Thermal Design Power), 95W for the G0 stepping and 105W for the B3 stepping. this is relatively high compared to my e6750 which is 65W.

All i am trying to say is, for extreme air cooling without any burning i would wait for the 45nm procs which will give out lesser heat/core speed achieved.

If you're using Ballistix, I think you can go 4-4-4-8 like me.
