i owned a psp... so for SWATwolf.. ur problem is not that major... u need more power get extra batt pack.. there got sell bigger power bank in the market, as for loading time, i think its not that long if u know how to make it short... hahaha i assume u have original copy of ur UMD, so what u can do is make a iso copy of ur umd.. load it in ur mem stick then walla.. done.. but for this to happen u need to have the nifty OE firmware and big mspd.. 2gb can say ok la.. but another problem is all this = to more cash.. haha

my problem with psp is it dont have much game for me to play... damm..

i think i may get nds but i dont know what game is good to play.... im more to rpg.. racing.. adventure... mmm.. other than tat 3d and fun game... ant suggestion? i really not into platformer hahaha i guess handheld not really design for me then... hahaha

Firstly, the PSP does have some memorable games, not that I know of, but I can name Lumines and Killzone. But hey, they got Parappa the Rapper!

And secondly, that's a DAMN GOOD question. Never seen before.

But I seriously can't give a yes/no answer at the moment. Because the arguement of console vs. handheld, and PSP being 'just like' PS2(a home console) confuses me much.

But in my opinion, I'd say yes. The PSP does what the PS2 does, and more. Plus, it's a portable.

Simple, if you were to choose between these two Ninty product, which would you choose?

A Nintendo 64? Or a Nintendo DS? (DS is just as, or even more powerful than N64)

Quite clear nod.gif
One good example would be Metroid Prime Hunters, a first-person-shooter. With the touch-screen, aided with the stylus or the thumbstrap, the touch-screen aims works just like a mouse. Well, not many people would believe that, but it really does work. Metroid Prime Hunters just felt like Quake 1 on a DS.

How about other games you say, I'm trying to think of something 'new'.. but this game was rather old, Kirby's Paint Brush or something like that.. It's a simple 2-d sidescroller, Kirby had arms and legs, but in this particular game, his arms/legs were erased doh.gif So basicly, you've got this magical paintbrush(stylus) to help him move around. Simply tapping Kirby will make him dash(he moves on his own), but if there's a pit infront of him you can draw a bridge for him to cross. You can even draw a shield for him, for temporary protection. But these paints wears off after time, so.. strategy abit la biggrin.gif

Just a few good uses and implementations of DS games, something the PSP cannot achieve.
You're welcome. I enjoy these discussions.

thx for excellent examples. smile.gif
but im curious (frankly ive never actually play ndsl before, so this may sound a bit stupid...), when u play with stylus, and your other hand is holding the console, isnt that abit tiring?? bcoz u need to support the entire console with only one hand...(except if you put it on a flat surface - like on a table - while playing)

pls share with us your experience. thx.

unlike ndsl, ive actually tried my hands on psp. i was playing a tennis game (so its an action game), when i tried to move the tennis player around, my hands tend to move together too (ya know, just like when we play on a home console), and thus the screen moved and my eyes needed to follow the movement too....wah...damn tiring lar... rclxub.gif

anybody face the same problem? or its just me?? sweat.gif

QUOTE(SWATwolf @ Jul 24 2007, 11:30 PM)

For PSP, I never got the chance to play outside, basically 1 of the prob is the battery long lasting. 2ndly, the loading time takes forever (1. load the UMD > enter PSP screen > Game loading > Menu > Load saved file > Loading > Game starts) These loading will ruin my time while waiting and I only can enjoy for a bit. 3rdly, its really hard to see the PSP's screen when u r under the sunlight, possibly u can see it at all! 4thly, good thing bout psp is some of the game like music genre games are suitable for psp, while fighting games are poorly done on psp, especially tekken and street fighter, I have prob fighting probably like wad we do on ps2 or arcade and my hand gets tired after holding the psp for a while.

For NDS, the loading speed is alot faster than psp. you could say most of the game does not need loading at all. Thats why playing ds with little waiting time can let u go furthur gaming. the screen is visible even its under the sunlight, though it hard to see. you cant say nintendo games are for kids, nintendo games are for those who don play games and those who wanna play a quick game, friendly games and fun games. The thing bout ds lite is that the surface is easily printed smudge on it and it can be scratch easily if not careful.

So then, I like psp, but i prefer ndsl

*
so psp is for those who prefer indoor+has more time for games??
then wld/t it be more realistic to own a home console instead?? tongue.gif

can SWATwolf kindly further explain on: "nintendo games are for those who don play games", please? keen to know your view on this lar.

another question, its abt firmware.
for psp, dont we have a specific firmware tt can do every damn thing?? or we need to upgrade/downgrade everytime we wana try something new??
for ndsl, do we have problem with firmware??

yday read on paper that the new psp (on sales in Japan in Sept) can actually watch TV prog (of coz, with an additional device lar). so its getting clear that Sony is positioning psp as a multimedia entertainment machine, rather than a pure gamming machine.

so perhaps the question that lies within the potential handheld buyer (like myself) is: u want a multi function entertainment machine, or u just want a cool solid gamming machine?

firmware is like os.. Even our windows also keep on changing... there is few reason that there is firmware change.. one is for fixing bug, adding new feature and to control piracy.. hahaha

dont know bout nds but psp always got new firmware coming out... psp can do alot of thing by using home brew but u need OE firmware. since DA already wrap all his job so now few more come out. so all in all there will always be custom firm ware for sure. if with out the custom firmware psp still can watch movie surf internet play mp3 but i didnt use it for this purpose since me only for gaming... but sadly psp didnt have much good title for me.

You came in here just to say this?

And no, it's a informative/discussive thread for potential handheld buyers.

If you think that the PSP doesn't deserved to be bashed, at least contribute something to why it shouldn't.

well, let's say I give a lady who doesnt play game at all, yet they can play without asking how when i let them play, new super mario bros, tetris ds, some touching mini games, nintendogs. Though they do ask a little bit about the buttons. Interface are so easily recognize that they dun even need instructions. icon_rolleyes.gif

For me, I LOVE my PSP.....and that's it. How about games? Well I like to play RPG....like Chrono Cross and FF Series but it seems lacking in PSP. The only game I enjoy on my PSP is Valkyrie Profile. I tried games like NFS and MGS but it's not that enjoyable for me. So in the end I started playing PSOne titles on my PSP. For me it all boils down to preference of games. I have nothing against PSP.....like I mentioned I love my PSP, that is until last 2 month someone stole my beloved PSP from me and I just bought a NDSL....well actually my wife bought it for me actually. The PSP stolen incident is partly her fault and she feel guilty about it. She asked me if I wanted a PSP again and I told her maybe not.....after doing my research on games available for both platform, I found out...hey maybe NDSL is better for me as it has FF III and FFXII is coming out and who doesn't love Mario.

So now it's NDSL for me but I WILL buy a PSP too as FF is coming out. Thats it for me.

Back in late 2005 I bought a secondhand DS Phat from a friend. My then gf was sceptical when I showed her the games - until she got her hands on Animal Crossing. I believe she spent 70 hours on it. Then there was Meteos.

6 months later I bought my NDSL, and she in turn took my old DS so we could play against each other on Mario Kart, Mario Hoops, Clubhouse Games, Meteos.

Up until now she (now my wife, a non gamer) actually spends at least an hour a day on Puzzle Quest, Meteos and Brain Age. My father in law LOVES the Sudoku, and my mum has taken to trying out Puzzle Quest.

So if you're asking which is the "friendlier" console? The NDS without a doubt.

I wanted to have a PSP but after looking at the games.... i lost half interest since most of them are port from PS2. The only game i am interested is MGSPO. Thought of buying it 1 month ago but heard that new PSP coming out then hold back......when is the new PSP coming out anyway?

For NDSL been playing with it for 1 year, games are nice and really fun, thx to Mr Mario, RPG are interesting too but wat i like most are those brain testing game like brain age, eye training, and bla bla bla.... very enjoyable.... i think everyone would love the games of NDS but not everyone will like games from PSP.

Personally for me, PSP has done so much for me. Playing games can sometimes be boring after a while, and that is where PSP multi functions plays a role by being an MP3, MP4 player, Image Viewer and modding hobby.

Plus, ditching out my PSP in front of public will definitely catch the people's attention around me. Hehe....not that I'm being a show-off but its obvious I can feel people around me eering at my PSP and talking about it. I don't intend on showing it off purposely, but I dont deny the feeling of it is nice. I guess the UMD door logo really is an attention grabber. More than once I have strangers coming up to me and see in close view what I'm playing. Some, even asked if I may let them try it for a while. I dont mind.

Another thing, since I bought it...my sisters been begging me to buy one for them. At first it was weird since I thought girls would dig to NDSL, so I ask them IF I were to buy a portable console, would they prefer a cute NDSL....they said a flat no. To them, PSP is the real definition of 'cool' and edgy gadget. As for the cute factor, they wanted the pearl white color. biggrin.gif

Nuff said, they didnt even bothered about the games....as long as they have one of the coolest portable in the industry. B)

The DS does grab some attention too.. Like you said(Mgsrulz), restraunt workers come and see what's going on. Normal la, they never seen before doh.gif

Once, I was in LRT going to gathering, nicely I play Tetris DS while standing and then suddenly a kid comes by, tip-toes, and peeks into what I'm doing.
