To try and end all redundant threads, I've created this topic solely for it's arguementive purpose.

No more "PSP or NDS, which better?" threads, instead, we have just ONE thread to make all discussions.

Similarly, the Next Gen Console thread has been unpinned, that's where the other "PS3 vs. 360" debate goes to.

Points to keep on this thread:
  • Why is X handheld better than the other
  • User testimonials based on experience

@ leenaz: You're right, Tetris does rock(am Tetris freak myself).

@ zito: Maybe those people aren't having fun with their PSPs. Having to update/downgrade their firmwares all the time(??). The delicate-ness of the handheld itself. Maybe using it as a media plater ain't such a great idea at all(if you don't use GREAT quality vids). (please don't rebut this paragraph, see below)

I'd really like to know why PSPs owners are still PSP owners. Maybe someone will enlighten us. I know it plays game, media, does homebrew, but what makes the PSP stand out?

btw, abt battery, psp consumes more power than nsdl, is that correct?
if yes...then psp potong stim lar...

That is sort of true. Various reasons, continuous steaming from UMD, brightness of screen..

But the new redesigned PSP seems to address those issues. Faster load times(games/softwares), and longer battery life, reportedly lasts longer than the current Nintendo DS Lite.

My Nintendo DS(old one) is still good. Has not been dropped before, but I've pretty much chucked/dumped my pouch on the ground, many times as if there was nothing valueble in it.

Still works. I've even read an article about someone dropping their DS into the pooper.. doh.gif And it still works!

Well, that is true.. As a testimony to two(2) joint gatherings, the PSP and NDS fiesta, the folks who brought PSPs ran out of juice in a matter of hours, say 3-4? (think of constant wifi usage) Where else the NDS crew was still happily playing.

The NDSL is very good at power conservation. Set volume to lowest/none, screen brightness to lowest, the red battery can tahan up to 30 mins- 1 hour laugh.gif

Again, with the new redesign(PSP), I hope to see a change. Rather than them having to lug around the charger, and look for a socket.

Well, can't say much about guys/girls loving NDSL. But from collected data in Europe, seems that more NDS owners are girls laugh.gif This is because of the Nintendogs craze early in the NDS's life. Really ramped up sales.

As for which demograph plays more handheld, I'd say M'sia itself isn't very open to "gadgets" like these(yet).. I still see kids with Gameboy Advances, and you know the word "Gameboy" will be immediately associated with "kiddy/for kids". Dunno if that explains why the elderly frowns upon handheld gamers.

And up to today, people still think DS/Nintendo is the shitz. Especially if they see a NDS phat now. Had a friend who commented on my DS and said, "wtf is this crap".. Only to see him selling off his PSP 2 months ago to get a NDSL yawn.gif

haha...no wonder i see many trading has taken place in LYN for used psp, but seldom see any for ndsl.... brows.gif

lets talk about the games for the 2 consoles.
1. many commented that psp has no memorable games, coz most of them are adapted from ps2.
well, in that case, if for someone that has no ps2, is psp still a good choice then?
2. ndsl's games are famous for the gameplay. can someone give us some actual examples on how nsdl's gameplay outperform psp's? (yeah, we know abt the stylus and the mic, but pls tell us precisely on how these can improve the gameplay)

thx in advance for any comments.  notworthy.gif

I don't know about the first sentence, but as I said earlier on in this thread:

We don't have the exact answer, maybe because bored? hmm.gif (thus explaining lack of.. um.. *awesome* games) ..

But back to your comments:

Firstly, the PSP does have some memorable games, not that I know of, but I can name Lumines and Killzone. But hey, they got Parappa the Rapper!

And secondly, that's a DAMN GOOD question. Never seen before.

But I seriously can't give a yes/no answer at the moment. Because the arguement of console vs. handheld, and PSP being 'just like' PS2(a home console) confuses me much.

But in my opinion, I'd say yes. The PSP does what the PS2 does, and more. Plus, it's a portable.

Simple, if you were to choose between these two Ninty product, which would you choose?

A Nintendo 64? Or a Nintendo DS? (DS is just as, or even more powerful than N64)

Quite clear nod.gif

One good example would be Metroid Prime Hunters, a first-person-shooter. With the touch-screen, aided with the stylus or the thumbstrap, the touch-screen aims works just like a mouse. Well, not many people would believe that, but it really does work. Metroid Prime Hunters just felt like Quake 1 on a DS.

How about other games you say, I'm trying to think of something 'new'.. but this game was rather old, Kirby's Paint Brush or something like that.. It's a simple 2-d sidescroller, Kirby had arms and legs, but in this particular game, his arms/legs were erased doh.gif So basicly, you've got this magical paintbrush(stylus) to help him move around. Simply tapping Kirby will make him dash(he moves on his own), but if there's a pit infront of him you can draw a bridge for him to cross. You can even draw a shield for him, for temporary protection. But these paints wears off after time, so.. strategy abit la biggrin.gif

Just a few good uses and implementations of DS games, something the PSP cannot achieve.

You came in here just to say this?

And no, it's a informative/discussive thread for potential handheld buyers.

If you think that the PSP doesn't deserved to be bashed, at least contribute something to why it shouldn't.

The DS does grab some attention too.. Like you said(Mgsrulz), restraunt workers come and see what's going on. Normal la, they never seen before doh.gif

Once, I was in LRT going to gathering, nicely I play Tetris DS while standing and then suddenly a kid comes by, tip-toes, and peeks into what I'm doing.

Nvmind la tongue.gif

ps.
i never meant to say the NDSL/NDS isnt an attention grabber sweat.gif ,but typical malaysian mentality,i guess... better graphics=better console. doh.gif

Yup, I know. Cosmeticly, the Phat DS was a failure. The prototype looked WORSE. But the lite makes it look like a girls make-up kit laugh.gif

But I'll have to agree that the PSP design is nice, cramming in technology, first revision already quite nipis, now second revision looks the same, but really much smaller and lighter thumbup.gif I think the word is 'sleek', or should we say, 'slick'?

I might get one(in future) if the software library intrigues me. Only Virtua Tennis World Tour/3 has me wanting some good portable tennis fun.

guys

do the current loading time in psp lite improved?

i am into racing games and FPS so does NDS has those title? is PSP a better choice?
*
I don't think the NDS has very top-notch racing games. Better if you go PSP if want racing games..

Unless you like throwing banana peels and red shells are people, boosting on corners, then Mario Kart is for you.

As for FPS.. DS has some FPS games, like Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty 4, Metroid Prime Hunters, Dementium: The Ward(latest)..

PSP, the only last one I heard was Medal of Honor, with 16-32 players online, altho' old.. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 will be coming soon too.
