QUOTE(apisgogo @ Jun 13 2008, 01:56 PM) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... this is one million dollar question... some people said its no difference between player decoding and receiver decoding... its debate until end of the day the sifu has spoken yes.. ur 663 can handle HD audio.. but u must hav player that could send the hd audio as bitstream... our PS3 cant do that... the most best valued bitstream player in my opinion is Samsung BDP-1400... Nope you'll only get the "core" meaning normal dolby digital or dts and 2.0 PCM through optical with PS3 (hardware limitation partly to blame) and if i'm not mistaken you won't be able to do this with stand alone bd players as well due to the limited bandwidth of the optical output.

In the PS3 audio settings i just ticked everything available since my receiver and PS3 both support everything.
Is this incorrect ? Should i untick some stuff bluelotus - i tried PS3 wireless streaming from upstairs router to downstairs where my PS3 is. For 1080p content it lags a lot. But when use homeplug it doesn't anymore. I am however now using popcorn to stream media because it supports MKV, H264 and XVID :] |

Hang on.
So your saying the PS3 cannot pass through true hd to my receiver to decode ? So if i select passthrough for audio to receiver, then i only get the core audio only ? If i setup the PS3 to not passthrough, but instead decode itself, then connect to receiver, which is then connected to HDTV, would that work ? How then should i setup my PS3 in that case |

Nope you will only get core dolby digital and dts through optical not TrueHD / DTS-MA. Irregardless how you setup you will never get get the full HD / Lossless potential as long as you use optical. You must use HDMI connection.
As i said earlier, PS3 do not bitstream the lossless audio to amp for decoding but will decode it internally and output as 5.1 / 6.1 / 7.1 PCM, hence you'll get the PCM displayed in you amp. Mind you, PCM is a heck lot better than the normal dolby digital / dts. This post has been edited by JonC: Jun 13 2008, 02:56 PM |

Btw, how to use soft sub when streaming? http://www.popcornhour.comIt's a media streamer hardware. It's more flexible than PS3 in that regard which is why i got it. Pretty soon there will be Ogm support I use it to watch movies and anime i download online so far it plays 85% + of the stuff i download. |

Some anime video it will go beyond the edge if the sub is too long. Sometimes when got some foreign characters it won't show properly. But mostly the experience is good so i can forgive some small problem which will eventually be fixed in firmware updates |

QUOTE(Cyphereza @ Jun 13 2008, 10:56 AM) Yeah I know, actually, I'm like still can't make a choice for either 24" Dell LCD Monitor or 32" LCD TV. I mean, both is fine. 40" is waaayy too much for me. Its just that is it worth it to get a 24" Dell. IINM, the 24" Dell can do 1080p and mostly 32" LCD TV only up to 720p. *sigh* Can't make decision. Lol. Thanks anyway. If you want to use it as your main PC monitor, definitely 24" monitor is much better than most LCD TV, especially in displaying text as their pixel pitch is much smaller. If you are planning to get Dell 2408WFP, if you can, wait a while more for Revision A01.http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/12.htm#dell_a01 I'm going to check out some LCD TV today, will try to compare different resolution of input source if possible. |
