Last time I got a pair from a breeder.... he told me tame a bit lah.... but he wasn't truthful.... he sold me 1 old and 1 young.... I thought both same age.... both females anyway.... and the old one killed the young.... And the older one bites me till bleed..... and I read Robos really need to be in pairs, so I bought 1 from a petshop..... but didn't work out. And the petshop one is scared like crazy....
Conclusion, that was my last robo LOL.... maybe in future would get White Face lah.... but not now. |

I likes syrian more than the other hamsters.
To me, they are very tame and gentle and easy to handle, based on my first 2 hammys I got them from a friend since small - they are really very gentle and tame. i usually let them loose around the porch while cleaning their cage and they never wander away. Both of them will stick to you. You can also hold them and they will sleep on your hand. Then, I got a dwarf hamster (white in colour with a black stripe) from my cousin, who dump it to me. He told me all his hamster die except this one. Being ignorant that time (4 years ago), i housed it together with my 2 bear bears. The dwarf chase and bite my 2 hammys and both of them had to hide in the house together while it roam free downstairs. I seperate the dwarf from them after that and house it in a new cage. However, the dwarf is really very hostile. It will jump and bite my hand every time i put food / refill the water bottle / clean its cage. Really a bad experience! I think syrian not that popular coz not much variety is available here. I only saw the short hair cinamon banded in a petshop in Ipoh. My 2 bear bears last time were long hair cinamon banded. I surf the web and noted that syrian has a lot of colour and variety - and those are really pretty and nice but don't think they are available here. |

When people talk about Robo, then we talk about Robo, when people ask about WW or RC, we talk also.... many people just have those than Syrian.... anyway, Syrians are misunderstood coz big, some are bitey and unfriendly because petshops mishandle them.
About dwarf, they are more territorial and aggressive, yes lah but those that bite people hard and attack hands are petshop stock. All of the ones are bred are very good with people, only the odd 1 or 2 that likes to chase hands but never cause injuries or hurt. This is all coz of good breeding.... Even my Syrians are very good, got 2 long haired and 2 short haired. |

Hmm, true also. About dwarf, they are more territorial and aggressive, yes lah but those that bite people hard and attack hands are petshop stock. Even my Syrians are very good, got 2 long haired and 2 short haired. My syrians were a gift from my friend - homebreed and raised. I would guess that my cousin's dwarf hamster was bought from the petshop. Hence, the most important thing is getting a hamster with good breeding and has been handled properly. |

Taming from petshop takes alot of hard work... but sometimes end up with unhealthy hamsters. Like those in Petsmore and Zoological shop.... so.... sickly..... I had experience getting from Petsmore, the hamsters died in 48 hours after I bought them..... so.... stay away from Petsmore if possible lah coz dunno what disease they have in there. Maybe they disinfect the tanks now but I don't wanna risk getting any infectious diseases to my hamsters.
Syrians, nah... I never breed Syrians coz they need alot of space if you wanna do it the right way. For now, I'm breeding and promoting Russian Campbells coz many people misunderstand this species. In their minds, all say this species is gila gila, bite and attack and can never be tame. Also, they got wonderful colours, so then it would be great to breed out rare colours and patterns. Syrians, I like solid colours loh.... |
