I saw this review posted 2 days ago today regarding the Raven SE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1Uhm_saVdY

Sadly, a lot of reported issue. Poor hinge quality, battery bloated after a year, keyboard keys no longer functioning properly.

Really worried now since I've ordered my Raven SE 2 weeks ago. Previously had read a lot of videos and most seemed ok until this review. Don't know this is a 1st gen Raven issue or Raven/Illegear brand issue as a whole.

Can any other Raven user confirm this?

I am not able to be sending my laptop in for service in the future as I will be using this laptop for my uni studies in overseas, therefore will not be able to come back Malaysia for months. Really worried now that various problems will arise after a while.

Can anyone who is experienced chip in on this? May want to consider a refund/cancellation now if these complains are true and happen to many others.

This is basically the definition of "you get what you pay for" You can't expect an ODM that sells at these kinds of volumes to boutique system builders to put in stuff like a metal backplate behind the keyboard or metal hinges without the end user paying the premium for it. That being said, you can obviously expect customer service which is what you paid for as well but that is a case by case basis at that point

does onyx line have this hinge or battery issue? if no I may want to consider my order from raven se to the onyx v ryzen since the build of onyx uses aluminium also. Any professional or experienced opinion on this?

Do note that during the flashing process be sure you are not working on anything. MAKE SURE YOU ARE PLUGGED IN / ON CHARGER source.

Open the F.bat in the Afuwin64 folder to process flashing the Bios
it will restart and enter bios few time

After successfully flashed and entered to Desktop
Open the F.bat in the Afuwin64cap folder to proceed flashing and updating the EC.

Do note that during the flashing process the laptop will reboot few times.
Besure to plug in the charger during the flashing process

Can't speak for hinge issue but the battery seems to be the same across most of their lineup for both capacities.

Just to clarify:

The 47Wh (3S1P) and 63Wh (4S1P) in RAVEN (ID-E) is different from the 47Wh in SELENITE (ID-S), RAVEN SE (ID-V) and other models, and they are from different battery manufacturers.

It was the A panel right part of screw hole, but not the metal hinges. It was an issue of early batch of 1st gen RAVEN (ID-E, thick bezel), and the failure rate goes as high as 30% +- . We have reported and requested ODM to ship us 200pcs of A panel buffer part (with screw holes fixed) and we replace for our users under warranty.

Take a snapshot of BIOS menu (with BIOS version) by pressing F2 upon boot up.

Can you snapshot from F2 BIOS Menu? If the ec is successfully updated, it will show 1.10.00.

Received my Raven SE i7-10750H on Monday. No problems and am happy with it

Only thing was, due to my own mistake, was a minor fault in setting up Windows during first login. Had to go back to factory version, and reinstall all drivers from support page. This was easy and it's all good now ...

No worries you can keep it.

Tongfang has five types of battery, and they are from different battery vendors:

1. 3S1P/4S1P: RAVEN (2018). <- The 4S1P one is the one that has high failure rate, which was used in our first batch of RAVEN.

2. 47Wh/63Wh: RAVEN SE, PRODIGY, ROGUE, ONYX V, ONYX (2018), SELENITE. <- So far so good after two years, bloated rate lesser than 1%.

3. ONYX PRO <- Not sure due to relatively new ID, zero case for now

4. ONYX G 92Wh <- Not sure due to relatively new ID, zero case for now

5. SELENITE PRO / IONIC 15 / ID-T (a.k.a Eluktronics MAG-15 by Intel) <- Seems to be quite reliable so far, zero case in ILLEGEAR.

6. IONIC 14 <- More than 1 year, zero case for now.

Illegear upgraded mine to a 120Hz panel, so far so good, 100% good pixels

Not sure if I need the BIOS update? Is that for RTX only?
