This is the new model right?

Seems good because they've updated to the new battery that is more heat resistant like the one use on most ddpai models and the price is affordable.

If this was released earlier, I probably would've gotten this over the ddpai z60 because the price is way cheaper. I think can get cheaper than rm360 no?

I saw it listed below rm300 (of course depends what add on u take).

Any Viofo A129 duo user here?

My unit just died since 2019 bought. Looking to replace it with A229 Plus. Figure it should be good enough for it's value of money.

Or any suggestions on par with it? Thinkware Q200 would be the alternative.

Hi All,

What's a good brand for dashcam nowadays for both front and rear (budget around 500-600?) ? And also does having a rear dashcam hurts the car battery further?
Trying to find something user friendly in terms of the apps as it is for my parent's car (proton persona) and want to ensure that in case anything happens, they are  able to retrieve it.
Also, may i know what are the 4g link kits that i've seen with some of the dashcam.
Thank you sifus

Oh...long time did read this thread.

For budget friendly and reliable dashcam, the most popular around here is 70 Mai and DDPai. I personally preferred DDPai due to it not using lithium battery and using super capacitor that can withstand high heat (safer especially for our super hot weather). That is my preference.

For 500 to 600, can get Z50 dual (front and rear). I don't know if rear dashcam hurt battery but all my dashcams, I always get dual front and rear. Since only record front, may as well record rear if ppl knock you and say you brake without cause. Both front and rear cam combined will provide much better viewpoint from police report perspective.

Myself, I always try to get GPS version but that will hike up the price to above 600. Forget about 4G link kit, that will require sim card that you have to additional pay monthly subscription to telco. Just take without 4g for fire and forget dashcam usage especially for parent usage (which I am the parent).

DDPAI has feature to shutdown dashcam under parking mode if set to limit battery going below 12.4V. This will prevent unexpected draining of battery. I use sleep mode aka only record if got collision. Unfortunately for most, it's very unlikely car battery can last for overnight recording during parking mode unless you installed dashcam battery packs to support recording during parking mode.

Yeah. exact reason i went for DDpai is for the supercapacitor batteries. The new 70 Mai also comes with supercapcitor now.

You self install or let accessories store install for you?

I self install and use the cig port. How do u set the parking mode? i think since i use ciggy port, these feature is not available. Do you connect using the fusebox method or OBD method?

Accs shop that I am familiar with. They just happened to carry z50 and z60 then...All using OBD hardwire. I only installed these on my older cars tho coz the newer cars bought with overpriced but low quality car manufacturer dashcam for warranty voidance peace of mind purpose.

I'm using A229 Plus in my current car, previous car also using A129 Duo

A229 Plus is fine but for some reason the image quality doesn't actually impress me, it's like maybe similar or slightly improved from A129 Duo despite using Starvis 2 sensor. Read online and some say it's something to do with the chipset.... A229 Pro on the other hand have better quality since it's using better chipset that support 4k recording. If you can then I recommend going for A229 Pro but A229 Plus will be fine as well if your budget is restricted

Just in time for 9.9 sales.
I'm also researching on the A229 series, while the Pro is a leap better but the pricing might be a blocker.

Will continue to evaluate overall Plus vs Pro.

A229 Pro for 1.1k soon on Shopee

https://my.shp.ee/7UY2VcX

I think it's a better deal since essentially same price as A229 Plus. When I bought mine last year I got no choice because only A229 Pro and Plus available hence the price gap quite significant, but now already got A229 Ultra and A329 series

Hi everyone, I’m considering the following options and would appreciate any recommendations. Kindly share your insights or advice on which to choose. Thanks in advance!

1. 70mai A800SE
2. DDPAI N5 dual
3. DDPAI Z50 pro

my two z50p have frequent rear cam disconnect, auto restart and sd card fail issues. initially tot is memory card problem but after bought new sandisk endurance cards and used for a week also same error again. formatted sd card and it will repeat after 1-2 weeks. all my previous ddpai no such issue.

Pull the trigger to bought A229 Plus + Hardwire kit. Had good voucher and pricing very enticing.

Nevertheless, I'm gonna be looking forward for the next 3-5 years of usage for A229.

Just today my trusty DDPai Z40 (already provided 3x videos for accidents/incidents in the past few years) suddenly told me 'Please remove SD card'. Saw that the rubber covering for SD card had fallen down on the dashboard, and the SD Card was sticking out of the slot. Pushing it back in, it won't stay/click, the spring just pushes it back out.

Is this physical damage? Possible to be repaired, or is it time for a replacement?

I've seen that video, and did try to use a key to push it deeper, but cannot. It can't be physically pushed any further, and when I release pressure it just springs back up.

ok. if the keyed latching portion of the SD card is still intact, then it's the camera's internal latching mechanism that's faulty, it's time to visit a repair center or get a new dashcam.

i knew a guy who had that problem...he tried jamming the micro SD in place with toothpicks....it didn't work very well.

Thanks. Wondering if anyone else had the same problem before. Otherwise is working fine, is it worth trying to repair (does DDPai even do repairs in MY)?
