yea i did it with my pc. so much faster like half an hour or so.. with the ps3. it barely moved.. why?!?!?
now i am downloading the resistance update also taking 3 hours already.. anythin i should know heads- up for the ps3. jus got mine today.. the website browsing right.. i dont need to type http and www all tat crap boleh still right? |

Mhhh the connection thing is really a headache!!! i dl my 1.81 and finish install around 1 hour. But updating the Resistance was even more terrible since my connection keep disconnecting and the stupid resistance update will had to start from 0% again!!!! WTF!!! TMNuts is shit!!!

Hey 1 of my fren got a ORI JP version GT4 (not asia version which is in Chinese word) and he want to know whether he can play them on the Asia version PS3? He is going to buy a PS3 but he heard from the salesman that Asia machine cant play JP PS2 game.
So any answer? He dun want to waste his PS2 ori game......any of u ppl tried putting in JP PS2 game in a Asia PS3 and can play pls speak out. |

NTSC/J ps1 & ps2 games (from jpn, hk, twn, korea) are backwards compatible with NTSC/J asian ps3.
but certain games have problems with backwards compatibility - i think the sony site should have info on that. |

sticker on the ps3 is jus the serial number.. the box wrote HK5.. does tat mean its HK version? if SG? will it be SG5? lol can anyone confirm this thanks?
another thing would be like my ps3 controller sotimes lose control of itself. like the ps3 and controller DC or somthin like my character in ressitence will jus spin by itself.. thn after awhile i resume control.. anyone? wats the prob here? i am very near the console.. the only probelm is once its shared, IINM, the subaccount maybe could use the wallet of the main account, as the log in is the same email as well as the same password |

MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) is a checksum value, commonly use to check the integrity of files.
So, checksum value for all update file is the same. |

I'm halfway through in backing up my HDD to another HDD using the backup function under system settings...I'll try installing linux without partitioning after this.....
@rx330 keep the links coming....who knows...maybe you'll need it tonight... Added on June 25, 2007, 6:06 pmmanaged to get the installer to work...that is the linux screen conmmand prompt...but when I tried to install it...it says disx space too small.... lapaq, i failed mine aredi....
(i install once b4, but forgot to type in installtext @ kboot prompt, tis is my 2nd item) tested with the dled 5.01, reach kboot, i type installtext, kenot, typoe ydl480i also kenot.... then force shut down, tried again with my old 5.0 disc, jam, no image, force shut, kenot, tried again also kenot, suddenly, pop out lioa, installtext kenot, but ydltext can. then go to anaconda liao, dunno simi driver not found, i click ok, selct keyboard, ok, language, ok, then dunno restart or wat, jam again.................. u guys think if i reformat, start the whole process again , can ar? |

Managed to install Fedora Core 5 to my PS3....posting this via ms PS3 linux Yeahoooo!!! Now I'm trying to install vlc to ps3...see whtther can be done....heheh super noob on linux here... btw, Added on June 26, 2007, 6:35 amIT'S 6.35 A.M. UPDATE: wooooohhhhooooo... I managed to install mplayer and vlc......now can play all sort of movies..doesn't matter avi, mkv and evem ogm...!!!! on a low not....vlc can't play h264 file smoothly either it's jerky or full of artifacts... mplayer on the other hand, plays everything smoothly... Added on June 26, 2007, 7:46 amANOTHER UPDATE 0741 HRS... Upon the successful installation of Fedora Core 5 and VLC + Mplayer....I then continue to perform the restoration of my PS3 os...remember back when I said I performed the back-up utility from PS3 system settings.... Well....upon restoring the content..again using the function in System Settings....they restored all the game demo and also purchased PSN games...together with Game Data System (Update files, and also oblivion game date, etc) and also my Save game files...not to mention the usual pic, mp3 and video files... so that means I don't have to re download all them games again....Great one Sony...I really really love my PS3 now... the fedora 6 macam very susah ler... the fedora core 5 easier so how? will it replace the rosak linux i had? or i have to reformat? how did u reformat, until everything still inside? btw, the otheros file, u dled both of it ar? |

When you are at kboot:...and you type 'install-fc sda' it will ask you to confirm and unpon installation...all previous data on the other os installation will be wiped out..so no need to format first... otheros file??? I just download the "CELL-Linux-CL_20061110-ADDON.iso" and then take the other os from there as per the instruction...the file from Sony website is no longer needed with the latest firmware.... basically once you install the other os file from the cd iso...you can boot linux 'kboot prompt' already...from there you can start installing FC5... hope that clarifies |

Oh and yeah..it will clear up any previous Linux installation.. p/s: now I really am hooked to learn more about Linux.....since last night 80% of my PS3 uptime is spent on Linux....hohoho p/p/s: Regarding all my PS3 downloaded games and demos and game data...Apparently...the Back-up function under System Settings will also backup all our downloaded games and demos and also game updates apart from the usual save game data and music/photo/video.... You need these....
1) Fedora Core DVD ~3.4 GB - Burned 2) Addon CD (I used this one - CELL-Linux-CL_20061110-ADDON.iso) to 'PS3'fied the Linux kernel - Burned 3) 'otheros.bld' file on a thumb drive and the most important thing.....do not forget this.... A Big size Popcorn and a movie for you to watch while the installation is on-going... |

and also, me not using HDtv, i read somewhere, it starts with normal resolution instead of 720p, so mine shud be fine? so for the add on, i need to burn it to normal CD will do? peace bro, btw, really tat long ar? *faint |

Yup you can use it as per notmal pc running linux...the response time is a but slow when starting apps though as the ps3's hdd is a slow one and there's not that many ram inside...only ~190 is usable for linux...
It's great if you are compiling or learning to compile software for CELL cpu..or if you just want to learn about Linux... |

the otheros you'll be booting has a default video mode of 576p IIRC...but IINM there'll be black bars around your screen...maybe...IINM that is...just a normal black bar....not so thick and not so thin.....
But...it wont look very nice on that reso....and sometimes, some of the windows in linux is too big to fit in 576p....and you can't click on the okay button below as your screen is reso too small...but it's not serious though...it is not everyday you encounter a big dialog box or window and most of the windows can be resized... Can anyone help me out? I am having trouble getting my center and surround speakers to work when playing DVDS, trailers and such on my PS3. The DVD player/receiver is connected via component to my R7 whereas the PS3 is connected via HDMI. I have thought of using an optical cable but the receive doesn't have one. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I got this set and still getting used to it :S http://www.pioneermalaysia.com.my/specHTZ252.htm but it doesn't seem to have an optical cable input so how else can I get 5.1 on the PS3? Sorry for all the noobish questions i'm a total noob at HT haha thanks a lot

from my point of view i think u will need a decoder that has optical in.....but i dont know if it can pair wit ur current hi fi system....but for me i got a 5.1 speaker and if i buy a decoder then can output at 5.1....u wait till tomorrow morning then i guess some of them could explain to u better coz some have already try it

now only need to wait for hte file to finish dling SL, the website doesnt show any input connections, but if there isnt any optical in, too bad. my pioneer, bought many years back, has optical though, weird, shudnt optical input be standardised? i see many cheap DVDs player also supports optical out nowadays, hence urs is a HTiB, even more it shud include it if its not too late, change it, or else, wasted, if the only 5.1 playable is thru the DVD only |

I thought SingStar Next Gen is scheduled for 27 July. Aug 22 is release date for Australia. Hope that's just a typo on the site.

Thanks in advance It's not the optical cable that's your trouble. The HDMI from your PS3 going into your AV Receiver can process 5.1/7.1, so long as your receiver has the right decoder. For DVDs, that would be Dolby Digital for 5.1 output. (I assume the DVDs are originals with Dolby audio, not .... u know ..... )Perhaps you need to manually set the input codec for the HDMI-in channel? Or change speaker config to 5.1 for the HDMI-in channel? Sorry can't think of anything else. Nono, the HDMI doesn't go thru the receiver at all cause it doesn't support HDMI. The DVD receiver is hooked up via Component directly to the TV whereas the PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI. I got the surround to work on the DVD player/receiver but I just can't get it to work on the PS3. I've tried to set it up on the main menu of the player and tried tinkering with the audio settings on the PS3 and checked almost everything but still no 5.1! If there's no solution I think I'm gonna go return this set. Anything I should look out for if I want 5.1 on the ps3?

normally if u use ur ps3 to download stuff it really depends on ur connection speed....if u use pc can use download accelerator

Now sound from my PS3 is fed via optical.It cost 100 Euros at that time. Maybe there are better ones that has HDMI and 7.1 support out now but I'm not too familiar with the Malaysian market. Hi,
Changing our console region.... it won't work...In fact all the update files from all the region...are currently the same exact files...Doesn't matter from where you download it (US, JPN or HK, SG) All the same.... @rx, You don't have to take out the MS everytime you want to update. Just use the usb cable to connect your psp to your ps3 and then activate usb in your psp...the ps3 will be able to read the update files (and whatever files) in your memory stick... It is not good to cabut then put back you MS from you PSP every so often...it will later damage the connection plate reading the MS. Also about xvid4psp, Can you write to me the exact red wordings it gave you? from there we can troubleshoot... What about other files, maybe normal avi files, does it work? |

Just bought Super Stardust HD early this morning and here is my short take on it:
Though Stardust is fully rendered in 1080p and I have yet to notice any slowdown of any kind during my brief 1/2 an hour of play, even when the screen is pack to the brim with asteriods, ships and lots of gunfire! The ship comes with three weapons the Rock Crusher, the Ice Splitter and the Gold Melter, which starts at 8% and powers up all the way to 100%. Each weapons has their strengths and weaknesses, thus using the right weapon at the right enemies makes a big difference! So far, to me it is absolutely the best "twin stick" shooter on any platform now, it beats Blast Factor hands down and seems as addictive as Geometry Wars! Also I think the graphics looks even "crisper" and better than Tekken DR HD, thus making it the best looking PSN game. Its a real must buy at USD7.99! Was about to try with SG account, only to discover that Super Stardust is not available there yet. What am I doing wrong? //-- Nothing wrong apparently. Synco u have to use either hdmi or optical only thats the only way....if ur speaker doesn't have optical in then u need to buy a decoder

Games released on both consoles even until now seems to prove the other way round with XBOX360 graphics edging out the PS3. The lastest is in the football games which the PS3 version can only run in 30fps while the XBOX360 in 60 fps. Now that is a significant difference in performance!!! 30fps vs 60fps What is wrong with the PS3? A year has gone by and the hidden power is still no where to be discover. That is all.What do you expect us to say? you are correct? that 360 games are better? and PS3 is not really a more powerful system? It is said by the people at 1UP (in their latest podcast) that these games are built on the 360 then ported to the PS3...PS3 Don't really like it this way as 360 architecture and PS3 are totally diff. They can do it that way but they would need to rewrite a lot of their code....and the devs don't want to as they have limited time and resources...coupled with the 'PS3 less than stellar' installed based, they obviously can't justify the investment...so they just come up with what ever they no matter how bad it is. And why Sony didn't do anything about it? I guess it is inevitable with the current situation....In fact I really want to have sony's comment on this....I want to know too Oh and Sony's own sports can easily do a game 1080p game....so why can't other devs? And we've also heard that a few devs like Sega (Sega Rally Revo) and Criterion (Burnout Paradise) decided to build their game on the PS3 then port it to the 360....this way it is wasier as the 360 is easier to sode for and they don't have to spend too much time re-coding. And again based on 1up Podcast (latest one) the PS3 build looks better and runs smoother... So, why don't we wait and see what happens later this year before we ask these questions....because there's no use answering this early....Then best time to judge will be in Fall and holiday season of 2008. If you think that you investment in PS3 is a total waste of time and money and energy....well it's too bad..there's no use 'b****ing' about it...just well your PS3 if that's the case. Also no one wants to 'layan' you...I've just wasted a few minutes of my time on you..and this will be my last time...to 'laya' people with this type of questions again. Don't get me wrong...there's nothing personal...I just don't think this type of discussion will produce any fruitful result/outcome...period But then all I get is "fanboyish" reply. I personally hope the PS3 will be the most powerful console because I bought it too. But it just hurt to see that almost every XBOX360 games turn out better than the PS3 which are supposely pack with more power than anything on earth. i've been following this thread for sometime although i hardly post anything but it's great learning lots about the PS3 and the other what-nots here. no qualms about the ps3 despite the lack of 'killer games'. in fact, aside for games, i use it to play dvd a lot since my LCD tv is connected to it via HDMI. Actually, i'm happy that i could use Nero to stream all my .avi files and watch all my computer files on the big screen...keep the updating up guys, good effort!

AFAIK, its really due to the FPS or how fast the rates go. cause like quake CS and Doom. if i played it on a slower PC the framerates and movement does not go hand in hand with the frequency which the eyes sending pulse to the brain for interpretation. hence u get motion sickness. but if u played it on a fast PC it works alright for me. so tats my conclusion.. but prob is some people have extensive motion sickness compared to others. i hv yet to find any research on this yet.. so u all playing on xbox60 right.? lol it figures. |

hmm....both xbox360 and PS3 are powerful.
Xbox360 advantage: 1. out in market much much earlier than PS3, now developer should be familiar with this platform and MS do provide good SDK for them to develop game. Easy to port game to PC because of x86 architecture? 2. I'm sure the embedded 10MB RAM + the ATI graphic card unified architecture does make some different. (512MB RAM is accessible by system n graphic) 3. LIVE!!! online gaming... disadvantage: 1. Seems to have high hardware failure rate. 3ROD! (this factor alone holding me from getting this) 2. No HD-DVD drive? i don't care about it for now. Dunno who will win to HD format yet. PS3 advantage: 1. Overall their hardware spec is impressive!! disadvantage: 1. Cell processor, new processor architecture for game developer. Actually, Sony better provide a really good SDK that will enable to tap the Cell power and make it easier for developer to work on. 2. no rumble!! hope they can release it later 3. game library is suck right now...(this is why i didn't get the PS3 yet) 4. 599USD is really a high price a console....drop 100 or 200..you can see the sales will pickup. unknown: 1. is the Cell suitable for gaming console? consider the learning curve to game developer. How long will they take to tap the full power of CELL? 2. How much difficult or expensive to develop game on this platform? 3. Will they able to replicate the MS LIVE experience with HOME? both are good...just that both are expensive now...hehe if sell 299USD, Most of us oredi own both of them!! |

check in setting for audio, i try all the option except for optical. but still only 2.1. does a 5.1 only achievable through optical connection? |

^ And if u're running out of HDMI inputs, the Apple shop in Midvalley Megamall sells a 5in1 (or was it 4in1) HDMI switch for about RM 440. Yes its expensive but the unit looks (physically) very nice and expensive. Comes with a remote too.

Help needed from those who download PS store items/play online - what address should I use when registering on the first time? msia address?
how will this affect my online capabilities..? getting a ps3 soon. |

At last managed to install YDL 5.0 on my PS3
. Installation was smooth and took me about 1hr. The only setback is the resolution. It only can display 1280 x 720 (which is the setting for my hypervisor) whereas my 22" LCD monitor can go up to 1680 x 1050. |

You will need a speaker system /amplifier with optical inputs. I'm still using my 3 year old logitech z-680. No plans to change it soon. Perfect for games and movies.

I got a free controller so 1.5K is a damn great deal for me.
Furthermore if I were to buy a controller, it would cost me RM165 (if I buy a new one from any shop) and if I would buy from the Pasar Malam trading here it would be more cheaper (around RM100-Rm130) so it's still a good bargain instead of paying RM1800. |

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again and again. I've always looked at it this way - US$485 (HK unit; official retail HK$3,780 for 60GB) for a Blu-Ray player with HDMI 1.3 that also play games is not a bad deal. If you choose to look at it as a US$485 gaming console, and stack that against its competition as things stand right now, then you're gonna have a tough time justifying your outlay (at least at this point in time). You're basically investing in its future (read : potential) gaming prowess.
I only wish that Sony bundles the bluetooth remote. I seldom use my PS3 for games (Sony u suck at your gaming strategy at the mo, particularly the incoherent approach to developers and your online gaming implimentation) but it rocks the house as a BD player. hehe..the cold hard fact is the ps3 that are sold here is from JP, and HK.
Later from Korea. this only affect ps3 from usa. and btw, IF Our shops here import from usa, they wil sell it with the same price..if not more expensive. why..? cause so dumb to read the INTERNETS.lol! |

Nintendo is a clever company and has moved itself from the red sea into the blue sea! No more competition of high tech Graphics and anything else but more towards games development that can allow the whole family to play along!
The developers of Wii main goal from the starting wasnt to acquire the support of the hardcore gamers from the start but more towards the acceptance of the "parents". If your father and mother like Wii then purchasing Wii and placing it in the living room will not be a problem, complains from angry mother and father will never again been hear since themselves also enjoy the console! So that why Wii has so many console sold! Not to hardcore gamers but to another market! The family market! My parents also like the Wii, and has no complain when i played it in my living room but things are 100% different for Xbox and PS3 where most parents will said that those games are violence and no good! The Wii does have Wi-Fi. Also, could it be that the Wii is selling so well because its so darn easy to get pirated games for it? Also, like others have said, the Wii targets a different game market. So far the only game that I find appealing is Super Paper Mario. That's why my Wii is in the living room where my nieces love it while my 360 and PS3 is my room.
I just dont get it. U come to a PS3 thread and keep telling us how bad it is. If u're not happy with u'r purchase, why not just sell it and not be bothered with it for the rest of your life? Personally I think Will don't have the legs to survive after 3-4 years...Now We can still bear the graphics/gameplay that Wii churns out...
But come after 3-4 years....when 360 and PS3 games are looking and sounding and playing like a next gen game should be....Wii will be left behind... It'll be like looking and playing a PS1 game in the PS2 and xbox era....it used to be great playing a PS1 game but when we play it now....gosh it's awful...I'm talking abou new games here...not nostalgic game...like FF7 (which I still play till now). For example, take the RE4 for wii..it's great of course....fun and all...but we want sumthing new..big and badass...not the same old same old but with new controls.. Games that's coming out on Wii is mostly for casual gamers but the real next gen games will be on 360 and PS3... What the developers and publishers will be doing is to create cheap ass casual games selling at full price (USD50-USD60) and use the money that they made to funds PS3 and 360 games that cost a bomb to make... So I think it's a win-win situation for the industry...Wii is not a competition for the 360 of PS3...but it is there to complement it...for both gamers and the publishers/developers I hope you guys get what I meant |

no point debating it now la. jus let the flow go.. i wish i had a xbox360 and wii too. i mean the games there are cool too. but i am not rich ler. so i hv to do wats best..
the reason sony managed to lower the price for 80gb is cause thy removed the ps2 processor and allow the cell to emulate it. hence cheaper.. |

So, That is why I said, Will exist to complement the Industry. They are making the pie much bigger instead of stealing the slices from each other like 360 and PS3. I agree with you in not comparing between Wii and the other two. But I personally think that a two console industry is just nice and not too small. so we won't have monopoly..furthermore...we can also benefit as one is trying so hard to best the other...which in turn will benefit us consumer. That's why I prefer any console war to be evenly won by the players. As for your mentioning of casual games, I believe, that's where PS3 and 360 are going to also. they would have these small pick-and-play games to complement the traditional-long-winded-heavy-games. They have games like Geometry Wars, Super Stardust HD, calling-all-cars (to name the recently few) and etc. So as you can see all three consoles know the importance of casual games. it is not just exclusive to Wii. As for the cheap game for the wii...My apologies for a sweeping stament..What I meant was MOST if not all Wii games will be rather cheap to make as compared to a typical PS3/360 games as devs/publishers don't have to spend valuable resources creating a detailed games that a console such as 360/PS3 required. Costs like coding for a new next gen hardware, texture designing in HD, 5.1 and 7.1 sounds engineering and etc. Take one example like GT5 for PS3, previously, they only require 1 hour of a person work hour to build a car for GT1. But, now, they required IINM 2-3 months of a team of people to build a car. The cost and time difference are substantial... Not to mentioned if a game on PS3/360 don't have a top notch cinematics with well known voice actors and...motion actors...they will be crucified...so add that to the cost. Game developers used to have only 10-20 people in their office...now a typical developer for PS3/360 is usually more than 50. Since Wii is not really a next gen hardware...in terms of developing for it, it would not require resources as big as 360/PS3. That is what I meant as cheap...it doesn't mean that cheap as in game-cap-ayam-tak-bleh-pakai-punya or as in not worth playing kinda game. Cheap as in the cost of developing for it. Of course there will still be big budget games like Zelda and etc...but mostly it will NOT cost them as much as a big budget game for PS3/360. To sum it up, cheap game to make for the will will still be sold at 50-60 USD..example like Geometry Wars for the Wii....Just think of how much profits these people will make for each game... But a big budget game like FFXIII, Halo 3, Forza 2...will still have to be sold at 50-60 (mostly $60 now) even though more resources have been used in building these game. That is how I meant that Most Wii games + the casual games will funds the big budget games. I think I've written too much already.... i have all of them..i enjoy playing Wii, PS3 & 360.. coz i like the game not the concole.. if the console powerfull or superb.. but NO game ... no point gak kan... so dude.. no need to gaduh2.... if u got money buy all if not.. just buy 1.. console...yg ada game u like... most.. that all..

It is always good if we can own all console! I also thought of owning all of them but xbox360 just pulling me back from purchasing it everytime i see or hear 3ROD.......
Damn Microsoft should do something quick! No point purchasing a Console where is guaranty to blow off! It is like a bomb with time! Maybe games shops out there should mod the xbox360 by themselves and put in a water/liquid cooler like wat pc have! |

Good News for those who want to buy a 360.
Microsoft now offer a warranty package for 3 years. It covers 3ROD only. So no need to worry as the box will be replaced with a new one each time your 360 kena 3ROD. |

Do u think any local shop here will have this 3 years warranty? If got u will also end up waiting for replacement too, since so many xbox360 owners are going to go back and change and change their Xbox360 until out of stock and wait for stock from Singapore!

S'pore covers the 3yrs warranty but provided you buy from them. Even Djin who takes stocks from S'pore only gives 1 yr. If you buy from Sg Wang, most of the X360 consoles are parallel import from Korea, so figure it yourself, do you think those shops want to send back faulty X360 to Korea for warranty?
So don't expect anything official when you buy unofficial. |
