Added on June 26, 2007, 6:35 amIT'S 6.35 A.M.

UPDATE:

wooooohhhhooooo...

I managed to install mplayer and vlc......now can play all sort of movies..doesn't matter avi, mkv and evem ogm...!!!!

on a low not....vlc can't play h264 file smoothly either it's jerky or full of artifacts...

mplayer on the other hand, plays everything smoothly...

Added on June 26, 2007, 7:46 amANOTHER UPDATE 0741 HRS...

Upon the successful installation of Fedora Core 5 and VLC + Mplayer....I then continue to perform the restoration of my PS3 os...remember back when I said I performed the back-up utility from PS3 system settings....

Well....upon restoring the content..again using the function in System Settings....they restored all the game demo and also purchased PSN games...together with Game Data System (Update files, and also oblivion game date, etc) and also my Save game files...not to mention the usual pic, mp3 and video files...

so that means I don't have to re download all them games again....Great one Sony...I really really love my PS3 now... smile.gif

then force shut down, tried again with my old 5.0 disc, jam, no image, force shut, kenot, tried again also kenot, suddenly, pop out lioa, installtext kenot, but ydltext can.
then go to anaconda liao, dunno simi driver not found, i click ok, selct keyboard, ok, language, ok, then dunno restart or wat, jam again..................

u guys think if i reformat, start the whole process again , can ar?
*
I can't really comment on ydl as after I read through the installation steps is quite diff from fedora core 5.

but if you are interested in installing fedora core 5, you can follw the easy steps in the link below

http://linuxps3.net/articles/features/inst...n-your-ps3.html

I wanna try to install YDL after this but I'm afraid that my precious FC5 with vlc+mplayer will be gone.....see first if I have free time to try...to install...

I'll rad up summore...then I'll post sumthing to help you out...

Okay got it...with the help from Google...

follow the link here

http://linuxps3.net/articles/features/inst...your-ps3-3.html

tehn just click on next to go to the next page....hope it works for you

Added on June 26, 2007, 10:38 amFound some info...apprerantly...only Fedora Core 6 support wi-fi...though it is not yet stable...unless you really need wi-fi I suggest you better make you ydl installation works because Fedora Core 6 installation will take up all 10GB partition and you will need to uninstall most of the stuff that you don't want like openoffice and etc to free up space.

Added on June 26, 2007, 10:44 amIf you want to try and install Fedora Core 6

you can go here

http://forums.qj.net/f-ps3-linux-283/t-how...-ps3-88431.html

don't be surprised on just how much you need to do as the installation in the thread is minimal + some of the more important items rather than install full then uninstalll them...

the better choice is to do minimal and then add the things we want...as per the above link...

dun tempt me lar...

the fedora 6 macam very susah ler... the fedora core 5 easier

so how? will it replace the rosak linux i had? or i have to reformat? how did u reformat, until everything still inside?

btw, the otheros file, u dled both of it ar?
*
susah/senang??
Take my word...Fedora Core 5 is so easy..pejam mata pun tak bleh buat...hehehe

reformat???
When you are at kboot:...and you type 'install-fc sda' it will ask you to confirm and unpon installation...all previous data on the other os installation will be wiped out..so no need to format first...

otheros file???
I just download the "CELL-Linux-CL_20061110-ADDON.iso" and then take the other os from there as per the instruction...the file from Sony website is no longer needed with the latest firmware....

basically once you install the other os file from the cd iso...you can boot linux 'kboot prompt' already...from there you can start installing FC5...

hope that clarifies

HAH!!!!?????

If you looked properly...the guide jumped from page 3 straight to 5....it's missing its fourth page but never fear...Captain Bajunid to the rescue...

you can refer to another guide here....

http://fedora-ps3.com/Installation_Guide

Use it in combination to the previous step-by-step guide...and you'll get the hang of it...

Oh and yeah..it will clear up any previous Linux installation..

p/s: now I really am hooked to learn more about Linux.....since last night 80% of my PS3 uptime is spent on Linux....hohoho

p/p/s: Regarding all my PS3 downloaded games and demos and game data...Apparently...the Back-up function under System Settings will also backup all our downloaded games and demos and also game updates apart from the usual save game data and music/photo/video....

That is what I call great back-up program.... cheers.gif

You need these....

1) Fedora Core DVD ~3.4 GB - Burned
2) Addon CD (I used this one - CELL-Linux-CL_20061110-ADDON.iso) to 'PS3'fied the Linux kernel - Burned
3) 'otheros.bld' file on a thumb drive

and the most important thing.....do not forget this....

A Big size Popcorn and a movie for you to watch while the installation is on-going...

the otheros.bld is standard one is it? same as the one i use for YDL?

and also, me not using HDtv, i read somewhere, it starts with normal resolution instead of 720p, so mine shud be fine?

so for the add on, i need to burn it to normal CD will do?

peace bro, btw, really tat long ar? *faint
*
not using hdtv???

then it gonna be hard for you to read the text...can your tv recv progeressive input?

if can, then it will be better.

for the add on..it is advisable for you to use the ond I mentioned above...and I used to otheros.bld from there also.
