"Japanese gamers can finally take the frantic muddin' online as Motorstorm for the PLAYSTATION 3 received online play today in Japan. The 550MB update allows for internet multiplayer races and addresses some technical issues and fixes a handful of bugs.

Unfortunately, it appears that online play is region specific, so our global Motorstorm death race will have to wait. By Michael McWhertor".

» Rumor: Massive XMB update coming - in time for home
Article posted by XanTium | 27-6-2007 20:34 |

From ps3forums.com:

QUOTE
i've just been told that there's HUGE Xmb update going to be shown at e3 - with folders availible in all sections (e.g Demo's, PSN, Classic, etc in the game heading) also a new 'profile' section that will include a gamerscore, pictures, logs, and achievements / trophies (which will also link into home and be viewable as a 'screen' in your apartment if you wish). This new section will also include account management and the friends list and messaging will be a seperate heading.

Finally, the PS Store is getting a MAJOR overhaul... it will use a more console-type interface, and be more effectively laid out - the current store simply won't be able to handle the content sony have got planned in terms of the different types and volumes.

Oh... and you'll be able to 'wear' your trophies!!! you can select a trophy and it will appear as a graphic on your T-shirt or whatever. brilliant!

By that time all the drives can't be modded as most of the new X360 comes with BenQ and Lite-On dvd drives. So good luck on your future X360. You'll end up swearing X360 is damn expensive too. laugh.gif

Yeap..heard that M'soft is going with a new 360 cpu codename "Falcon" coming this fall. A 60nm process. Intriguing is that they'll come with a new redesign motherboard and hence i bet a new security features.

Unlike M'soft, Sony are also in the movie and music business. They are in it with a commitment. Hence the 80Gb version. They're are preparing for downloaded music and movie services, probably tentatively announced during E3 but not revealed due to Sony Japan completing all the features. As such it would make sense that they'll try to protect their ip's. The same goes for the rumored PSP. New security features for downloading services.

With Afta and other agreements between governments it's probably gonna be a little bit harder for us to go to Sparrow way in the future. Everywhere piracy enforcement is gaining momentum like Nintendo whose doing their bit in China and Korea. Come over here in KL and you'll know what we meant.

all i can see here is jus pure anger. calling people names and such. judging from yr powerful english. i bet your reasoning is as weak as what comes out from you. if u are so smart and think that the cost of a ps3 is still too high. why not suggest to sony u volunture to be on their cost reduction team.. help find people/suppliers to provide cheap parts.. thn u get cases like USD 1 B spend on warranties. be wise pls..

Yeap...that's what u'll get with a low cost product. A bunch of ROD's. Aku kena, tot kena and a bunch others. Make me wonders what would be the actual price if the 360's are made with quality components....and that doesn't include the Wifi and Blu-rays.

Sebenarnya aku maleh nak bising kat "another thread" but this is the reason for lack of bd movie titles all this while, for they are waiting for this latest security feature to comes out.

There are some rumors on other forums from members claiming that their local WalMarts and Circuit Cities are either out of stock or beginning to run low on their PS3s today.

On top of that, popular online retailer, Futureshop.ca has 4 units left at the time of me writing this:
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=FR

Since I have the day off tomorrow, I might check out some local stores to see if I can corroborate anything and update the thread with pics.

Update:
I can now confirm that at least one mall has sold out of PS3s in my area. The Gamestop at the Deerbrook Mall is sold out. Also, the Futureshop link I posted is now saying that they are sold out as of this update!

Remember, this is before any big public announcement. I will try to get more data later today from other shops but one physical store sellout in my area is now confirmed!

QUOTE
Yes its true. Wal Mart Super center by me was sold out early after noon.

QUOTE
I can attest to this, my Dad was going to buy a PS3 tonight for my little brother in Ontario and we couldn't find them anywhere. We did find 6 at one store but they hadn't dropped the price yet, still 699 (i live in Canada), but Wal-mart, futureshop were both sold out.
QUOTE
My girlfriend works at ab Eb and she told that they around aroudn like 35+ PS3s, now they only have 15 or so. thats pretty good in one day for PS3!

QUOTE
I work at Target, my store sold through all its stock of PS3 units today.

QUOTE
We have always had full stock on the floor, 4 units in the case at any time, and I believe we had about 10-15 units in backstock. I started my shift in the morning and sold the first four within the first few hours of the day, and all of them were people coming in with the intent of buying the console now that the price was cut.

The next few hours consisted of a few people coming in specifically for it, and a number of people who weren't aware that the price had been cut.

Most everyone bought Resistance and an extra controller. A lot of people also bought Virtua Fighter 5, which just got a price cut to $39.99.

By the time the store had closed, according to my co-worker, we had sold through all our units.

QUOTE
I know, I did a availability check for Target, EBgames & Gamestop
A majority of stores had only 4 units left, with some stores having 2 or 0

QUOTE
my bestbuy is sold out. i went to grab one for a customer and i was like "uh..... guys where are the ps3's" and i soon found out we were actually sold out!

we got 15 more on the truck today, but 15 isnt alot and once ppl find out about the price drop idk how long theyll last

Reiterated. Who said a price cut wouldn't work?

Katamari Damacy Creator Delivers New PS3 Game
First artwork for Nobi Nobi Boy

by Anoop Gantayat

July 17, 2007 - Bandai Namco Games unleashed a big surprise at Sony's PlayStation Premier event today in Tokyo with the announcement of an all new game from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi.

Titled Nobi Nobi Boy, all we have on this PlayStation 3 title are just a couple of pieces of artwork. The artwork and name ("Nobi" can mean "to stretch" in Japanese) suggests that the game will center around a flexible wormlike creature of some form.

Disgaea 3 Announced
First screens of Nippon Ichi's strategy sequel.

by Anoop Gntayat

July 17, 2007 - After years of sucking time away from PlayStation 2 owners, Nippon Ichi is finally moving on to the next generation. At Sony's PlayStation Premier event in Tokyo today, the third party publisher formally announced Disgaea 3 for the PlayStation 3.

Currently, we have just few details on the game, which is fully titled Makai Senki Disgaea 3. Once again a strategy RPG featuring a variety of selectabe units, the title appears to take place in a school setting. One screenshot shows a school backdrop with a menu prompting the player to change seats, go to your home room, or take part in graduation and entrance ceremonies.

The two screenshots we have suggest that Nippon Ichi hasn't quite abandoned its current set of visual tools in the move to the PS3. For a look at 2D sprites against 3D backdrops all presented in HD, check out the screens.

Disgaea 3 is set for Japanese release this winter.

Metal Gear Expansion Announced
Old Snake enters the battle field this September.

by Anoop Gantayat

July 17, 2007 - A new version of Metal Gear Solid is on the way to the PSP... sorta. As part of Sony's PlayStation Premier event today in Tokyo, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops +, an expansion to last year's Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.

The new version of the game is focused on online play, with new stages and characters. However, Konami is also adding a mysterious new single player mode, Infinity Mission.

In Japan, this update will be released in two forms, on its own for 2,400 yen, and bundled with the original MPO as part of a 4,300 yen Deluxe Pack.

MPO+ is set for Japanese release on 9/20.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Set For October
An online sampling of the full GT5 in just a few months.

by Anoop Gantayat

July 17, 2007 - Your next taste of Gran Turismo may come a bit earlier than expected. Following an impressive showing at E3 last week, Polyphony flew back to Tokyo in time for today's PlayStation Premier event where it announced that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released to the Japanese market in October!

As for the content set to be included in Prologue, according to Sony's press materials, we can look forward to a variety of cars, including some set to debut at this October's Tokyo Motor Show. The game will also have online play.

The only question is cost. The game's pricing is listed as "TBA," which suggests that it might not end up being the free download that everyone was hoping for following last year's big demo gift.

More details on content and pricing should be arriving shortly, so be sure and check back here at IGNPS3.

PlayStation Premiere: Metal Gear Solid Online Set for PS3
The online battle will continue on the PS3

by Anoop Gantayat

July 17, 2007 - We were satisfied when just one Metal Gear Solid game was on the way (MGS4). Then Konami and Hideo Kojima threw us a bone with the announcement at the PlayStation Premier press conference today of Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops + for the PSP.

But they weren't done there apparently. Famitsu.com reports that following a short demo play session of MGS4 at the event, Kojima announced that Kojima Productions is currently preparing a PlayStation 3 version of Metal Gear Online, the online battle game that appeared in MGS3 Subsistence. The site reports that Kojima will play the game live at next week's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party event in Tokyo and will share specifics on what players can expect.

We're a bit unclear if Metal Gear Online will be a standalone release, or if it will be included as part of MGS4. Hopefully, all will be clarified next week.

MGS2 was released on the Xbox too, but not MGS3. I guess there's nothing wrong with multiplatform games. Unless it's suddenly goin to be exclusive to Xbox360. Now that's a big news.  laugh.gif

Excerpt from Spong.Com
Interviews// Sony Europe Boss David Reeves

QUOTE
David Reeves is the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe so, along with president (Worldwide Studios) Phil Harrison, he's the biggest cheese at PlayStation outside of Japan and the U.S

SPOnG: There's also a generally different approach with the PS3 - the move away from paying for exclusives in favour of first-party titles. Do you feel that approach is working with the PS3? Let's try something different...

David Reeves: Well, Phil did the original deal for Tomb Raider back in 1995/96. I did the GTA deal in the Sunset Marquis Hotel. We did Pro Evo, but not Metal Gear Solid, because that was done in Japan - and others. We felt at the time that because we didn't necessarily have good first-party software.

We relied on Namco an awful lot, with the Tekkens, Toshindens and so on. We don't rely on Namco so much any more, although those games were really good for us. We made the decision three to three-and-a-half years ago to do our own IPs.

We could have gone the route of renewing, maybe with GTA and other things, and we have chosen to do it, for example, with Konami. With some of them, you do need to, for certain reasons, in Japan. But the conscious decision is, for Phil and his group, to develop IPs like Uncharted, God Of War a little bit earlier, Killzone and so on. I also feel that things like FIFA and PES are good now, but just like things like Bebo and Facebook come out, they're going to be leapfrogged in the end.

Let's try something different - we make more money from our IPs (intellectual properties). EA goes for licences, but our conscious decision is to go for our own IPs, and we've given Phil (Harrison), maybe not enough money, but money to develop for PS3. And he will deliver, but he won't deliver them all before Christmas. Killzone 2 won't be ready for Christmas, but it will come, probably, in the middle of next year. It will be an absolute blockbuster, and it won't be on any of the other platforms.

SPOnG: What are the IPs that really stand out for you beyond Killzone 2?

David Reeves:They haven't been announced, but I'll give you the thought process. We have now every quarter something called Gameshow where we all get together globally and look at what Worldwide Studios are producing.

Now, we don't see every game at every session, but every session, we see five or six new IPs which we can rate. I can, hand on heart, say that there are six or seven such games, coming in the next 18 months, which are absolutely spectacular.

There are some that are very emotional - one of the objectives we gave Phil (Harrison) is to make people cry. We know that in the middle and the back end of next year, these are going to come out and people will say: "I have never seen anything like that before". We just have to be a little bit patient - there will be more God of Wars and so on.

What has been remarkable is that there was a crash programme to put games on the PlayStation Network - LittleBigPlanet was originally designed for that. We'll see that some of them will be online, but some will be done as full-blown games. We started that over three years ago.

Those codecs are proprietary. In order to make it playable on the PS3, Sony need the source code to make it compatible for PS3 not to mention royalties payable for it use. I've did saw one able to play wmv. Ever saw any hardware media player able to play mov?
