QUOTE(roarus @ Oct 19 2019, 12:10 AM) Non UK & Aus residents get an account with eToro's entity domiciled in Cyprus. CySec has very weak regulation, home to many dodgy forex and options brokers. Be warned I think It's more legit than many others lah... at least they pass muster UK & Australia... a lot of companies are incorporated in tax free heavens for obvious reasons Anyways... Tier 1 brokers are obviously 1st choice |

QUOTE(moosset @ Oct 30 2019, 06:47 PM) so US total bond market index fund is replaced by Amanah saham?? Can try ambank bond fund also. Asnb is quite unique for Malaysian. U won't lose principal in Asnb fixed price, that fulfills one major point of bond (security)is Amanah Saham better than bond market index? |

So if want strict bond fund, can buy from fundsupermart also... But their bond fund service charge quite pricy, I no likeso the potential upside for bonds is higher, no? during recessions when stocks go down, bond prices go up. In recession...US treasuries bond goes up...most of the chapalang bond funds crash also but not as bad. QUOTE(moosset @ Oct 30 2019, 07:02 PM) so the potential upside for bonds is higher, no? during recessions when stocks go down, bond prices go up. But ASNB doesn't, dividend might actually go down. Bond prices skyrocket near recession or better worded as 'potential recession' because it is deemed as a safer asset. Most stocks can go bankrupt. Even index like S&P 500 is not spared during recession and can drop >5% in a day. So, investors flock to bonds which give them a almost 'guaranteed' return although it's low 3%~5% p.a. depending on the bonds. This 3%~5% p.a. positive return to them is better than losing up to 15%~40% in a recession. When demand for bonds go up, price of bonds will go up too. As price of bonds go up, bond yield (coupon/bond price) go down. Once recession is over or investors think it's over, they will sell bonds and bond price will go down. If you're a contrarian investor (an investor that goes against the crowd), you will sell bonds and buy stocks or index whenever there is a 'discount'. The ordinary common investor is afraid and will liquidate stocks and buy bonds nearing recession. Bond prices change mostly due to interest rates too. By the way, the formula for market value of bond (MVd) is: ![]() If central bank thinks recession is coming, they lower interest rates. Everything is constant except bond holder's rate of return. When interest rate drop, investors can borrow cheaper hence, kd.BT drops. When kd.BT drops, MVd. This is affected by the bond maturity date, n. Longer maturity date means the impact for every 1% change in interest rate is greater. E.g. if interest rate goes up from 2% to 3%, a bond with 10 year maturity will drop more than a bond with 2 year maturity. On the other hand, bond prices go down during economic boom because the central bank wants to control inflation by increasing interest rates.
