Sharing my experience on 28th march. Flight drop on haneda on 915pm. Took around 15 minutes to leave the airplane. Spend around 30 mins on custom and luggage.

So basically is already 10pm when clearing custom. Took another 30 mins to get the voucher from global wifi/plug and play my sim card/ getting pasmo/getting direction to correct train to go my hotel.

Took me another hour to get to my hotel at tawaramachi. Basically when i reached my hotel is already close to 12.

There are a lot of people in Japan..especially starts this week until mid of May..due to golden week. Japanese also on public leave for 10 days. Soo crowded with local and foreign.

Just be careful and expected the hassle..enjoy your trip!

Traveling to Kyoto in mid-November and having some trouble finding affordable accommodation at Kawaramachi/Gion station (<RM400/night for 2 people). There aren't many listings on AirBNB and sites like Expedia/Agoda. Should I wait until next month for more listings to appear? Also worried if I might be booking a bit too late..

felt weird why klook is selling their sagano romantic train more expensive than the original
price for 1 way originally is 620 yen/pax
but klook is selling at RM46 which is over 1000 yen/pax/way

Hi guys just need some opinion here from all the seniors here.
Im gonna travel to osaka next year mid of january and when i reach kansai airport it will be around 9.40pm night.

1) So im just dilemma wherther i should stay a night at the nearest hotel from airport or head directly to osaka city hotel ?

2) Second question is im thinking if i stay at the hotel near to kansai airport then i should direct to kyoto in the next morning to start my itinerary in kyoto first and save osaka for the last.

3) And lastly can i just stay osaka for my 8 days trips and travel conveneintly to kyoto and nara ?

Any recommendation ? Thanks alot.

Btw my trip is 8days 7 nights.

Are there cases where Japan Airbnb hosts cancel paid and confirmed stay at the very last minute? This is what's worrying me about booking with Airbnb, first time user here..

Same situation here as your no.1 question.. There's one hotel in the airport itself but it costs a bomb. But I also remembered there being several night trains which you can hop on to..

Q1 & 2 : why not just go straight to kyoto after u landed?

Q3 : yes, u can but is it worth it depends on how many person are u travelling with(is the train fare u paid(both way) cheaper than your hotel's difference?)

1. If you arrive KIX at 9.40pm, you should be able to catch the last 2 or 3 Airport Rapid trains to Osaka. Better to head to Osaka.

2. If following (1) above, just start your itinerary in Osaka. You can move to Kyoto later as you can catch the direct train from Kyoto to KIX for your return flight.

3. You can. The only thing is traveling to Kyoto from Osaka daily will cost more so you have to do your own calculations and see which is more worth it. Personally I find there's a lot to see in Kyoto so I prefer to base myself in Kyoto.

Thanks for the info, think i will just skip the airport hotel option and head straight to Osaka city (near Dotonburi ?) from the airport.

So which of the following plan is recommended as im currently drafting my itinerary ?

A. 2 days in Osaka -> 3 days in Kyoto and Nara -> 2 days in Osaka
B. 4 days in kyoto and Nara -> 3 days in Osaka (provided i head straight to Kyoto in the next morning after arrive in Kansai so i will just stay my first night in Osaka)
C. 3 days in Osaka -> 4 days in Kyoto and Nara (last day take the train from kyoto to Kansai airport)

Sorry this is the first time travel to Japan (2 pax) and landed in Kansai airpport at 9.40 night really make me headache.

Thanks for the help.

Did you search online on the timing of the trains and whether they go to kyoto?

I guess the itinerary really depends on you, what you want to do, what you want to see, etc?

For me, I don't have to spend so much time in Osaka as it's mostly for food and shopping. Kyoto is the reason why I came to Japan for: the beautiful old streets and gardens/shrines/temples. So I'm spending more time in Kyoto than in Osaka but my trip is a lot longer lah, 5 nights in Osaka and 7 nights in Kyoto so I don't need to cover so many areas in each day.

As another forumer mentioned, your itinerary should be what you want to see/do there. My wife and I are more into food and cultural experience; we're not so into shopping. So we spent 5 days in Kyoto and 3 days in Osaka (incl. a day trip to Nara).

Personally, I would recommend you do KIX - Osaka - Kyoto - KIX instead of coming back to Osaka before your flight home. The couple of hours you need to pack, check out, take the train to Osaka, drop luggage, etc. can be better spent on doing something on your itinerary.

that's why i wouldn't recommend cheap flight if the timing is a bit shitty icon_idea.gif
