Currently what is the previous battery life span or average battery life span that you are getting in the current situation of rarely driving the car ?

Just to chime on on a recent battery change.

2015 Mazda 3 2.0 came with Delkor Q85L EFB battery, dated July 2023. A new to me car, noticed the car started cranking a bit slower in the span of 2 days and seem to get worse gradually.

Ordered a new battery through Century ResQ, very quick response. They only had Century Excel Q85 EFB in stock nearby me, RM535 installed with trade in. Within one hour of ordering, their dealer rep showed up. Tested the Delkor with 44% SoH only, luckily I caught it early. Aanyway, gonna turn off the i-stop from now on.

Initially ordered a Varta silver through BateriHub on Shopee for the same price, their branch is literally 5 minutes away from me. Kept pinging them also no response through Shopee after 2 hours, also gave them a call through main hotline, no one picked up. Cancelled my order instantly, it's not worth it to put my money with a dealer like this. Take it for what it’s worth with this info whistling.gif

For 2nd hand vehicles, always best to assume that the dealer will be installing a degraded battery prior to delivery. The only time that I came across a new battery inside a vehicle waiting to be sold, was because the vehicle had not been started for a long time and the owner intentionally bought a new battery because my client had asked me to check the vehicle's electrical system. Kesian the owner, even with a new battery, the vehicle still would not start. Guess it's been abandoned for quite a while liao. Always when I am called to check a 2nd hand vehicle that's already in my client ownership, surely the battery about to Kong already. Kalau charging system tiada masalah, memang nasib baik la tu but usually there is some preexisting fault already.

If the date written on the battery is genuine, 2 years and 3 months is about alright.

So far yet to detect any other anomaly, still have a list of preventive maintenance to do in near future.

If I am not mistaken, initially the battery lifespan was about 12 ~.18 months, in which many owners begun to make noise. Then the management did something perhaps replace with a higher quality battery and the new battery average life span increased to 24 months thereafter. Owners began to switch off the Auto Stop-Start function too and that helped I guess.

I have a friend with new FL CX-5, 1 year old with 21k mileage. Car couldn't start last week, after jump start works again. Tested today at SC 79% SoH, SC told to continue using. On the second year, claim warranty on battery owner need to bear 50% sweat.gif

Previous it was around 1.5 years, the current one is 11 months

I'm thinking if a car charger would help

A battery charger will surely help up to only a certain extent. IMHO, driving is the best way to keep the battery lasting even longer.

Comparing the 18 months & 11 months battery life span, were they driven about the same distance OR substantial difference with 11 months being rarely driven ?

Interesting, pretty much the same but different life span. Hopefully it's the same battery brand and if it's the same, there could be electrical issues but that will have to be checked out.

However if they were different battery brands, then there is nothing to work on.

True, you need to drive the car, at least twice a week to keep the battery charged and lasting

Previously owned a mitsubishi triton, first 5 years use it regularly mostly long distance , after that rarely use, just twice a week drive it around klang valley area, last year sold it, i don't want to keep too many vehicles at home

At least you are rationale and sold away the excess vehicle. Many will try to hang on unto such rarely used vehicles for whatever reason and then they try to skip preventive maintenance, that's where more & more problems starts creeping in. Best to keep what is necessary and maintain them properly. There could be valid reasons for them to keep such vehicles at that point in time, but overtime it does not make any financial sense at all. Only keep them, if they have a purpose.

these auto start/stop feature is quite an ass in our climate.....i wouldn't say it is useless as it does reduce fuel consumption a bit but totally impractical....

the only upside due to this feature are that the crank journals and starters are made more robust due to the potential added wear from more engine starts
