Guys, need some help here.
My parent house totally cannot detect the wifi after yesterday heavy rain and lightning. Live chat with Unifi, the account is active. So can someone tell me whether is the BTU or router is not functioning properly base on the photos? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

I've switch off few times, but still unable to detect the wifi at all. Then only I live chat with Unifi, cause I afraid my parent's account has overdue or inactive. But come to think of it, it is not so possible for inactive account unable to detect own wifi right? CS even reset the port for me since they say there is no session (no internet record) from my side. Cause I never pay attention to this router, if you notice the wifi LED indicator is not light up. Could it be possible that got strike by lightning and cause just the wifi malfunction? |

QUOTE(MrSpeedy @ Nov 12 2018, 04:06 PM) Well for my upcoming Pi-Hole mini project, these components I will use: If it's pi zero, should work 1. Raspberry Pi Zero (w/o Wifi) 2. ENC28J60 10Mbps Network Adapter Module According to this site, Raspberry Pi Zero (w/o Wifi) has the lowest power consumption among all Pi's. So hopefully it shouldn't be any problem when supplying from USB port from the back of the router. Bonus, a Reddit user post his setup with display which power supplied from TP-LINK router. Link: https://old.reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/9k...y_to_my_pihole/ [attachmentid=10102010] Wish me luck! Do let us know how your project goes. Good luck! |

QUOTE(cskean @ Nov 13 2018, 12:27 AM) Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i notice the wifi led isn't lit... And it is possible that a storm can ruin electrical appliances. If you have a laptop, you could try connecting directly to the BTU and troubleshoot if that's not the culprit. Strong chances are, it's the router. Try to get TM's technician over. QUOTE(cskean @ Nov 13 2018, 12:27 AM) Thanks for the reply. Well, try this instead. One of the possible reasons wifi not detectable. What country u choose for wifi channel? 13 or 14 your device cant detect.I've switch off few times, but still unable to detect the wifi at all. They'll perform verification with account owner and continue with you. Done this with my FIL's account. They'll just speak to him first, then he authorizes you (over the phone) to continue. TM CS understands that with elderly folks, younger ones are more tech savvy.QUOTE(imalmighty @ Nov 13 2018, 01:04 AM) Well, try this instead. One of the possible reasons wifi not detecable. QUOTE(fkinmeng @ Nov 13 2018, 12:10 AM) Seems like your BTU issue. I had the same problem too cannot go beyond 100Mbps, problem solved after TM came and replaced a new Nokia BTU for me. Also what devices were you connected to? Not sure if router firmware makes a difference but I'm using xwrt-Vortex. |

Then it's sad news then if wifi indicator not lit up. Ever since converting to fiber network, my router seems invicible to lighning. Never had to worry bout router prone to being fried during heavy lightning.

You worry too much. Based on all you've described, we can't help you much cuz it appears troubleshooting is difficult for you. If you had a spare working router like most of us, just swap and test. Since you can't troubleshoot on your own. Just call TM tech fella to come over and fix. Doesn't matter to keep wondering if this and that if you can't even work on it yourself.I was thinking, if the router was struck with lightning, shouldn't it totally not able to power up? I am really puzzled by people who are unable or not having the knowledge to troubleshoot themselves, yet come to post the problem here. Just want to enjoy the process of answering, reply, re-ask ,and reply? Just call TM! This post has been edited by mhwee: Nov 13 2018, 07:49 AM |

QUOTE(cskean @ Nov 13 2018, 12:09 AM) Guys, need some help here. I had a weird experience yesterday night. After changing old Cat 5e cable to new Cat 7 to connect BTU to router, no internet access. Thought something wrong with the new cat 7 cable. Tested it using back old cable, same issue. My parent house totally cannot detect the wifi after yesterday heavy rain and lightning. Live chat with Unifi, the account is active. Rebooted multiple times still no sign of internet. No help even I used back old router. Surprisingly, internet came back to life after I had spent more than an hour troubleshooting it. Perhaps, the problem lies at TM side. |

From your pictures, the BTU is working fineIt's the router that's having issue Either the router is fried or the settings is gone. Need to reconfigure it Connect a laptop / desktop to it using LAN then access 192.168.1.1 to reconfigure it |
