Thanks for the head up. i am currently with digi postpaid 60. thinking to switch telco because digi is charging rm 10 a month for 5g coverage next month. I don't need unlimited data, even now with 80gb a month i also struggle to utilize it.
*
.
Can't you opt out of being charged RM10 per month for 5G coverage by Digi., ie if you choose to remain on 4G?
....... Of course, if you prefer 5G, then you can choose from another celco a new postpaid 5G plan that best suits you.

Afaik, existing or continuing postpaid U GX50/GX68 and prepaid U GX30/GX38 subscribers do not get 5G service unless they subscribe to the new 5G plans, eg U U25, U40, U68 or U98 .

Afaik, low-band (eg 700MHz) and mid-band (eg 3.5GHz) 5G use similar technology as 4G (eg 800MHz to 3.0GHz) but because 5G has been allotted more or wider Frequency Bands by the government, 5G (low and mid bands) can give 2X higher Internet speeds than 4G through carrier aggregation of more Frequency Bands, eg 200Mbps for 5G vs 100Mbps for 4G.

1Gbps or more (bc of more/wider Frequency Bands = more carrier aggregation) can only be achieved by high-band or mmWave 5G at frequencies of 28GHz to 86GHz, whose small-cells are often mounted like street-lamps (unlike cell towers) have very short range of about 50 meters = they are mostly deployed in city centers and high foot-traffic areas like shopping malls, stadiums, etc. .......

https://www.highspeedinternet.com/resources/4g-vs-5g - 2 March 2023
5G networks come in three different types, which tie to the range each type has and the speeds it can deliver to your phone. Here’s a quick breakdown:

- Low-band 5G operates on many of the same frequencies as 4G LTE, delivering slightly faster speeds over long distances.
- Mid-band/C-band 5G incorporates higher-frequency radio bands than 4G, including ones that were previously used only for industrial and satellite TV purposes. The clear airwaves make for a much wider network capacity—and thus much faster speeds—for large number of users.
- mmWave 5G use “millimeter-wave” radio bands that operate at an extremely high frequency. This type of 5G can deliver gigabit-plus speeds, but only in limited areas (like a sports stadium, hospital, or parts of a city’s downtown) due to the frequencies’ weak signal strength and limited range. ...

To me, 5G is Fake bc if you allot more/wider Frequency Bands to 4G, 4G can even out-speed low-band and mid-band 5G. .......

https://commsbrief.com/what-is-carrier-aggr...anced-networks/ - What is carrier aggregation in 4G LTE Advanced networks? - 7 June 2021
Why is Carrier Aggregation used in LTE networks?

Carrier Aggregation offers flexibility to a mobile network operator by allowing them to utilise the existing frequency carriers better. It allows the operators to combine multiple frequency carriers (or RF carriers) into one to serve user devices.

4G LTE networks can provide a maximum download speed of up to 3 Gbps with LTE-Advanced Pro and up to 1 Gbps with LTE-Advanced networks. ...

https://www.teldat.com/blog/lte-advanced-pr...e-basis-for-5g/ -
According to forecasts, commercial testing of 5G networks is set to begin in 2020. But, in the meantime, LTE-Advanced PRO already allows you to use technologies that will be included in 5G.

LTE-Advanced PRO, also known as 4.5G, is the next evolution of 3 GPP prior to 5G. But it does more than just push LTE capabilities closer to 5G. It also represents an integral part of the 5G mobile network, providing many essential services for the 5G experience today. ...

New LTE-A PRO capabilities
- Ultra-low Latency. LTE networks support latencies of up to 50 ms (RTT) and in LTE-A PRO this latency is reduced to under 10 ms. This allows you to have new applications, such as remote medical operations or remote vehicle repairs and diagnostics.
- Improved reliability (URLCC).
- High speeds (>8 Gbps). ....

.

To me, the government should shelf DNB's 5G, limit the use of 5G for industrial applications only and limit the number of 4G celcos to a maximum of 3, so that each 4G celco can have more Frequency Bands = each 4G celco can give higher speeds to subscribers/consumers and have more capacity for subscribers = less network congestion during peak traffic hours.
....... Of course, the government should also prevent profit-gouging by the 3 or 2 4G celcos, eg prevent price-fixing by a tripoly or duopoly cartel.
.

no idea for postpaid

but the other way round (using prepaid option to "reload" a postpaid number) I've tried before, it just credits it to your bill

Hey there, peeps. while I was looking at some options, I somehow just noticed that umobile coverage exists in some parts of where I live (in Sabah).

However, I also noticed that Sarawak has zero coverage.

Now let's say I opt for umobile postpaid, and from a covered area, I go into Sarawak (zero coverage).

What will happen? Will the umobile plan I have become useless / dead? Or will it roam and piggyback on other telco? Would there be charges? Or would there not be charges?

Can anyone kindly shed light into this?

Best to test U Mobile coverage by buying a prepaid Starter Pack for about RM10 before subscribing to a postpaid plan.

If you go into Sarawak and there is no U Mobile 4G/5G coverage, you will not be covered - afaik, UM has no 4G/5G roaming agreement with other celcos. If no 4G/5G coverage, UM has 2G roaming agreement with either Celcom or Maxis, ie mostly for voice calls and SMS only = no Internet data.

Afaik, UM mostly has coverage in urban and suburban areas, especially around areas along highways and main roads, ie UM lacks rural coverage.

Celcom has the best rural coverage for 4G and 2G because it is a GLC.
